  In the USA, why so often is the vote for President just a vote against someone?

  in my lifetime, (i will include kennedy even though i was probably breast-feeding at the time), but it seems that there have been relatively few presidents that we vote "for.

  " my list would be kennedy, reagan, clinton and obama.

  i'm not talking about their politics here but who generally got voted for, instead of simply voting against.. any thoughts?.

  A couple reasons, I think
  

  Since we never seem to have a viable third party candidate, we end up choosing between two people. A vote for one is automatically a vote against the other whether we meant it that way or not.

  Both the Democrats and Republicans have a history of running geriatric disasters, not because they are the best candidate, but because it's "their turn." When a candidate is old enough and/or appears to be mentally ossified, people are forced to take that into consideration. Bob Dole lost even here in my Republican state, mostly because he appeared old and infirm.

  I do understand what you're saying though. Candidates who truly inspire their voters are few and far between.

  at what time would you say that the watch tower schema lost the spirit?.

  like the ancient nation of israel which struggled maintaining divine blessing due to a long series of grave errors that eventually culminated in definitive loss... how and when did watch tower lose the spirit?.

  can we pinpoint a time or event?.

  I'm not sure if I understand the question, but would say that from a purely pragmatic standpoint, the pinnacle for the JW's occurred during the age of the "New World Society" during the 50's and 60's.

  Part of this, I think, was the general optimism of the time period; part of it that JW doctrines were still plausible inasmuch as time had not yet run out and part of it was that life back then was different in ways that favored and facilitated groups like the JW's

  Believe it or not, before cable, satellite and the internet, when you were lucky if you had more than three black and white channels on television, JW meetings were the high-point of people's weeks.

  I've disliked Biden since at least the 80's. He was a rabid gun-grabber then and he probably still is at heart.

  Having said that though, I am shocked sometimes at how far Trump's "foibles" deviate from conservatism.

  well known norway elder and watchtower doctrine apologist, (rolf furuli) was disfellowshipped a few days ago for the crime of expressing opinions contrary to some watchtower dictates.. like wt leadership in the past, they have no problem eating their own..

  And in addition to that, you still have all the arguments for why the GB were not spiritually superior to the rest of the anointed. --They were simply fellow slaves taking the lead in the preaching work because somebody had to.

  You still have all the comparisons to unsavory characters in the Bible for anyone who would presume to grab that kind of authority. You still have comparisons to the Catholic Church and the Pope as living proof of where that kind of haughty attitude leads.

  All this and more is still in JW literature for anyone to read.

  I've suspected for a long time that the current crop of leaders do not have the grounding that even an unwashed heathen like myself has by virtue of marriage to a JW,

  I think you're being a little hard on yourself, Terry.

  First, the pronunciation of most scholars will make native Greek speakers laugh, (Which is why some end up learning Modern Greek too) but then, ancient Greek and Latin are not learned as spoken languages.

  Second, Ancient Greek and Modern Greek are not the same thing. -No more so than Old English and Modern English are the same thing.

  Here for example is the Lord's Prayer in Old English:

  Fæder ure

  ðu ðe eart on heofenum

  si ðin nama gehalgod

  to-becume ðin rice

  geweorþe ðin willa on eorðan swa swa on heofenum.

  Urne ge dæghwamlican hlaf syle us to-deag

  and forgyf us ure gyltas

  swa swa we forgifaþ urum gyltendum

  ane ne gelæde ðu us on costnunge

  ac alys us of yfle.

  The Greek of the Bible is even older than this.

  Since that time, the sentence structure has changed, some of the inflection has been lost, spellings have changed, an indefinite article eventually evolved and many new words have been coined.

  If you had kept at it to the point where you could read the classics and enjoy them, you would would have been ahead of Nico and Basil, who would have struggled.

  Events in the Bible do not tie directly into our calendar. We have to turn to archaeology, astonomy and other calendaring systems for that.

  The uncertainty lies in the various calendaring systems and their tie-in to our own.

  Even though the Babylonians and the Jews both numbered their months from Nisan, the Babylonian New Year began in Nisan while the Jewish New Year began in Tishri.

  Since the Bible is not clear which calendar is the frame of reference for the events it describes, the April to October difference between the two introduces an element of uncertainty.

  All of this has gone pretty far afield from the semantic logic of your video, which I agree with.

  In the same vein, Jesus admonition to, "lift your heads up" when these events start to occur is rendered nonsensical by the idea that they started to occur 105+ years ago in 1914
