JW Net and Politics

this site was and remains instrumental in assisting people that want to leave the jw's.. there has been political discussion here for some time now, a good couple of years and it makes me feel a little uneasy.

i just opened up the site for the first time in some weeks, of the 10 posts being discussed, 4 were by the same poster, about politics, promoting their right wing beliefs.. this has been the trend for some time now, the same name behind a peppering of posts stirring the right v left of politics.. i remain forever grateful to the site and it's founders simon & angharad, i appreciate that simon shares some of these these political beliefs.

it would be a shame to see the site evolve from a place for jw freedom of thought and escape, to political squabbling, that the world is frankly tired of right now.. just to clarify, politics is my hobby, whilst my friends read the football scores, i'm reading polling data.

I guess we all have our own hot buttons and blind spots.

I'm still mulling over the perception that this board has not always been highly political.

Does nobody remember the retired attorney asking the men here in all seriousness how they had adjusted to no longer being dictators? Or how threads often morphed into attacks on men?

Does nobody remember the months of discussion on WMDs in Iraq? Our whether the second Gulf War was about oil?

Does nobody remember the many discussions on whether there was ever a legitimate reason to own a gun?

Does nobody remember how conservative residents of the Midwestern and Southwestern U.S. were portrayed as uneducated by liberals who seemed to think they were?

This has actually been going on for quite a while. (Decades)

Mark Twain, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Jean de Brunhoff, H. A. Rey, Road Dahl, Claire Bishop and Majorie Flack are just a few of the authors who have been censored by school and library associations.

Since most of these authors are deceased, the heirs and foundations who hold the copyrights could follow suit

Political views have been discussed here from day one. From the Gulf Wars to the Neo Conservative movement, to Bill Clinton's indescretions, it was all discussed here

This forum was so rabidly liberal years ago that you could cut the man hate with a knife which was an anger I felt was very much misplaced, especially for those of us trying to help our wives out of this cult.

But that's the nature of politics. The pendulum swings from one extreme to the other. Personally, I prefer the middle but that's not going to change anything

I've said this before and I'll say it again.

As someone who has been through this, bringing up the contradictions, dishonesty, and downright silliness of the JW faith is counterproductive in the extreme.

For the longest time (Years....) I could not see that with my wife.

In retrospect, I would say I refused to see.

The JW faith, as kooky as it is, was filling an emotional need. The trick was to figure out what that need was and fill it with something healthier.

Nothing short of that is going to loosen the hold

why would a biblical religion even consider having demonic images included, in any of their content?.

the new world translation (nwt) contains thousands of serious errors.

the following regarding john 1:1, one of the most noteworthy verses to jehovah's witness and ex-jehovah's witnesses alike, provides a case example of how and why the nwt cannot be trusted.

there some few scholars that translate the word was "a god" or "a god" or "divine" but they are in the very low percentages.. in greek john 1:1 says: "en arche en ho logos, kai ho logos en pros ton theon, kai theos en ho logos.
