I don't think it's a very good analogy, but it doesn't become a logical fallacy in the formal sense until someone uses the alleged similarity to justify additional conclusions.

Logical Fallacy… can I get some help here?
by DATA-DOG indr. leanna wen is currently spreading the fallacy that unvaccinated persons should have vaccines mandated because they are like drunk drivers… they have the right to be drunk at home she says, but wanting to be part of society at large without being vaccinated is like driving drunk and putting others at risk.
besides ignoring the science proving that persons who have had sars cov-2 have natural immunity that equals or exceeds anything that could be imparted from the mrna shot, without the side effects or need for boosters, ( sorry big pharma, you’ll be losing $$$ ) this illustration just smacks of illogical reasoning.
it reminds me of the borg comparing getting baptized to getting your driver’s license.

Statements or Comments Made By JWs That Were WRONG
by minimus injehovah’s witnesses claim to be the only religion that has the truth.
they claim to be representing god himself.
can you think of anything that you could use to prove that the witnesses do not have the truth?.

Diogenesister
JW writers and memorial speakers have been repeating the misconception that day and night are of equal length on the spring and autumnal equinox for at least 80 years.
It wouldn't be worth mentioning except for the JW conviction that they are in possession of superior knowledge on a great many things.

I'm sorry to keep harping on this, but IMHO, it is huge...
Jehovah's Witnesses teach that there are two and only two Christian hopes:
A: The heavenly calling
B: Surviving the great tribulation (i.e. The earthly hope)
This has been discussed every single year at every single Memorial for as long as I can remember.
Jehovah's Witnesses therefore teach that the heavenly calling was the only hope from Pentecost clear up until the proximity of the great tribulation made the identification of the second hope possible.
That happened in 1935. The clock started ticking then and there and this is openly acknowledged in their literature:
"God’s infallible Word depicts this group as ‘coming out of the great tribulation,’ being survivors of it, living right on into God’s New Order without ever having to die. (Revelation 7:9, 10, 14; John 11:26) The early members of this group are now in their 60’s or 70’s or older. Jehovah did not allow the ingathering of this group to begin too soon. The “great crowd,” including many of the earliest members thereof, will survive into the “new earth.” (Survival Into a New Earth p. 185 emphasis mine)
https://www.jw.org/en/library/books/Survival-Into-a-New-Earth/The-Countdown-Nears-Its-Zero-Hour/
This quote is nearly 40 years old now and the passage of that time has made it glaringly obvious that it is completely wrong. 1935 was 86 years ago and even a 15-year-old at the time would be over 100 today.
Jehovah's Witnesses sometimes get details wrong that are not essential to their faith (Like what an equinox is for example) but this does not fall into that category.
The Christian hope is an essential matter of faith. It's what JWs believe that Jesus died for and it's what they teach at their Memorial.
And they were (And still are) wrong

CO said; “Friends (plural) who’ve been raised in the truth are beginning to have doubts regarding their faith”
by pistolpete inhere is what a co said at the elders and ms meeting.
it goes to show that no matter how hard the governing body tries to instill fear of apostates, it's just not working on the young crowd of jws.. it's a new generations of born in jws--------and they don't buy this shit anymore.
it's really over for the watchtower.

JW eschatology lies in shambles and nobody seems to know how to pick up the pieces.
It's not just the overlapping generation nonsense (Although that's bad enough..)
The people who were stood up in 1935 and told clearly and unequivocally that they were the great crowd are gone (Even the youngest would be over 100 today) and there is zero explanation for why.
I'm surprised more JW's aren't having serious doubts.

In a similar vein, holding a straight path doing one's due diligence would have meant reading Judy Micovits' papers in the order in which she published them (Including the 2009 paper, that was first amended, then retracted and finally falsified entirely) and not blindly accepting the gibbering insanity in the Plandemic video.
In would have meant not blindly believing the idea that hospitals were empty and Covid 19 was therefore a hoax because a bozo in Germany showed video of a hospital wing undergoing renovation as proof.
And yet it would not be very hard at all to go back and find some of the same people making outrageous claims about mRNA vaccines who embraced both of those ideas right here on this forum.

Serious Question: Are You Hearing About Anyone With The Flu Anymore or A Cold?
by minimus infor years everyone was told they had to get the flu shot.
because the flu was dangerous and it could even kill you.
now, hardly anyone talks about the flu or having a cold.

Let's not put people into boxes.
I'm an old school conservative who has made a hobby out of the history and interpretation of the Second Amendment
I've also worked in a supervisory position at a med-lab and am appalled by some of the things that get said on this forum.

What Do You Think About Home Schooling?
by minimus ini knew a few witnesses who were very proud of the fact that their kids were homeschooled.
years ago, i would raise my eyebrows wondering why these families couldn’t simply integrate their kids with other “worldly” kids.
at this point in time, with so many theories being pushed on kids and their parents, i can see why parents, if they are qualified, could instruct their kids themselves.

I think it's complicated.
Children tend to build up a wall where their parents are concerned. These are the people who have wheedled, cajoled, lectured, nagged, and yelled (As the case may be) since we could walk and it is human nature to start to tune that out after awhile.
The people I know who were home schooled are not stupid and neither were there parents. The parents just couldn't get through to them apparently.
A virtual stranger starts off with a clean slate and that can be an advantage. I had good teachers and bad teachers just like my children did, but the good ones we remember for the rest of our lives. It was a kindly Mormon biology teacher who explained to me what a load of shit the JW reasoning on transfusion was and that was huge

Twenty years ago, I was pretty neutral about it.
Today after seeing the results, I think more than a few of these children were done a disservice by their parents.
We're talking adults who don't know who Shakespeare was, can't find Australia on a map, have zero knowledge of applied mathematics, don't have a good command of their own native tongue, etc, etc, etc....
