  this young jw lady was shunned by her parents since she was 18 or 19 years old.

  she was befriended by the older man that you see in the picture.

  These are Sarah Kellen's JW parents.

  The older I get, the more disturbing that glazed, hypnotized, smiling with the mouth and not the whole face appearance becomes.

  No parent in full possession of their faculties shuns a child. No one...

  Actually, it's not. Many Orthodox Jews have the same doctrine:

  Completely wrong. The document you source was not even written by a Jewish person, much less a Rabbi. (Ten Commandments? Seriously?)
  

  Even more puzzling is that the document conflates JW beliefs, including their strange categorization of blood components, with Judaism.

  Speaking as a Jewish person, if you want real, factual discussions authored by Jewish attorneys, physicians, and Rabbis, I would recommend this site:

  i'm not sure if anyone remembers me since i do not post here much anymore.

  i sometimes pop in around christmas time to see if anyone is interested in exchanging christmas cards like we used to back when i first posted on this site.

  speaking of which, the holiday season will soon be upon us.. if you recall, i was married to a jehovah's witness and i had a daughter i spoke of a lot.

  Angelo C. Manera - One of the best speakers I have ever heard....

  --Not sure if it's the same guy, but a gentleman by the name of A.C. Manera Junior (Always introduced by that title) was a "District Overseer" in the Phoenix area decades ago.
  

  My impression (Admittedly from a distance) was that he had a pretty bad case of "short man syndrome."

  I agree with Simon and Lee Marsh.
  

  I put personal choice on a very high pedestal, but this is not about the rights of the individual. This is about the rights we accord religious organizations.

  You can argue that the sanctions a religion may impose are different than a government and I would agree, but in both cases, the result is harm to the individual.

  Since we define religion (In the U.S.) as fundamentally charitable in nature, an organization should adhere to that definition if they want to be accorded the benefits of religious status.

  The modern event and it's location at a fairground was based primarily on horse racing. Even the beer (And rotisserie chicken) for which it is known today, did not come until much later.

  Outside of the context of alcoholism, Jehovah's Witnesses have spoken of it very neutrally in the past: (Perhaps not in English, but certainly in German)

  ◆ Das weltweit bekannte Münchner Oktoberfest war im Jahre 1975 ein Rekordfest. Dabei wurden nahezu 4,5 Millionen Maß Bier getrunken und annähernd 600 000 Hendl’n (Brathühner) verzehrt. Die Besucherzahl lag um rund 10 % höher als im Jahre 1974. Das Münchner Oktoberfest hat also trotz aller Sorgen um Park- und Sitzplatz seine Anziehungskraft weder im Inland noch im Ausland verloren. Im Gegenteil, der Werbeslogan „Leut — vergeßt die Kris’n, kommt’s auf die Wies’n“ wurde von etwa 6 Millionen befolgt, und die Sorgen wurden mit der nötigen Menge Bier „hinuntergespült“.

  Oktoberfest is a 16/17 day long carnival/festival. It's not a holiday and not religious

  JW's (AFAIK) don't have a problem with beer, folk music, or carnivals in general as long as there is no "reproach."
