Scientists and evolution
by gringojj inthe wts says evolution didnt happen.
i told my wife that majority of the scientific community believes in evolution.
i think this is true but does anyone know where i can get some hard statistics on what percentage of scientists believe in evolution?

Not that the abouve links wont tell this, but I will state the simple position:
Evolution is a fact. It is undeniable that species evolve.
The "theory of evolution" refers to the common hypothesis in place as regards the "mechanism" that causes speices to change over time.
Natural selection is the model put forth by Darwin but since we cant observe or have every link of evidence for a billion years such models will remain "theory".

by tetrapod.sapien insorry if this has been covered already.. my wife told me today that in one of the new watchtowers it says that no one can know for sure if an apostate will be ressurected or not.
apparently, they draw us to the experience of solomon, who the bible writer still said was burried with his forefathers, indicating that he was still kosher fodder for ressurection.. is this new?
i hope i am not causing undue sensation if this is not the case as my wife misread, or something.. i don't have the desire or energy to go through my wifes magazines.

JW brother stopped by to awfulize about the bombing in London
by homesteader inmy brother who is a jw (who i helped into the religion when i was a dub) came to my house this morning this morning while we were having breakfast.
the first thing out of his mouth was the bombing in london and how this is the worst bombing since ww11.
then he made the comment "i wonder what this is going to lead to.

It is amazing how narrow their view of the world is:
If 40 people die in UK or the US it could be the start of armageddon
If 400,000 people die in Africa it is just plain old human suffering
They never realize that for some people on earth right now, armageddon would be a step up.

Lend me your Apostapowers, trying to help someone out of the org
by wanderlustguy inok, i'm finally starting some dialogue with my brother, i've let him know that i have questions that no one can answer, and he says to send them over so he can either answer them or get answers, and that no question is disallowed or "apostate".
he sent me an article (from 08.15.04 wt, thanks blondie!
) via e-mail, on which i pointed out one simple question on reply to him, which he has replied to.

The best answer there was at the time if you will. And there are other examples.
Its going to be hard to get over this type of thinking. But dont give up and take it very easy, make sure he understands you are wanting to learn from him.
I think if you could get into a discussion about what makes these particular individuals the FDS you could make headway. Hopefully he will make the claim about their "predictions". You could ask to see these writings (dated before 1914 of course) that have the predictions in them. I know that for me, seeing what was in the old WT's sealed my decisioin that leaving the org. was the right thing.

Is Intelligent Design self-refuting ?

some critics (here) of intelligent design theories claim that it is "self-refuting" to invoke design and / or complexity, as evidence for an intelligent designer explanation for things such as the origin of life, other complex biological structures, etc.
since this claim comes up somewhat frequently, i thought it should be given its own thread.

Zagor, I think this is the analogy that is flawed in logic that was pointed out earlier. This is similar to the "Watchmaker Argument" which is internally flawed.
ID has a major flaw and it is this:
It is claimed that a complex universe could not simply come into existance, so it must have been created.
It is created by a being that is complex enough to have created it and that being simply came into existance.
Internally contradictory.
