Wow, openminded I guess that line of reasoning didnt work after all. The person you correspond with is ready to defend the WTS no matter what you may say.

The tone of the person's words is quite interesting. Hostillity is oozing from the response. You have really struck a nerve there.

This part is good: "following blindly in their path. Where is objectivity? Where is truth? Where is the love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, mildness, long suffering, faith and self control?" The tables are being turned on you. Farkel would probably know the name for this ploy.

The reference to Paul to is irrelevent and helps to evade the conclusion that you suggested in your reasoning. And I really like the cop=out word :"interfacing". Very nice.

Counting Time... Is It Part Of The Rot?

how many here have pioneered?.

be honest, what was predominantly on your mind, telling people this wonderfull good news or was it counting time?.

an elder once said to me, "you know, it's strange how when pioneers quit pioneering, they're hours don't stay the same, they don't gradually diminish and they don't even drop by half... they drop practically to nothing.".

It must just be part of the mentality that you can earn your way into paradise. The slips, time sheets, the reports. Looking back it seems so strange now. So what if the WT goes in the trash after you leave, it still counts as a placement. We would even roll up old WT's and leave them in people's doors and that would count.

FArkel: I go to Oceanside every year for a week and I never want to leave. One of these times I might not. September in SLC is wonderful but it cant beat year round SoCal.

Emotional attachment to Watchtower

you can hit witnesses with child screwers, un arse kissing, 1975 redux, etc.

etc.. you will influence people who do not have an emotional attachment or who have lost their emotional attachment to the society, but you won't get anywhere from people who still have that emotional attachment.. religion, including that of jehovah's witnesses is based on emotion not logic, so trying logic is a waste of time.. you have to get people emotionally detached by getting them emotionally attached to something besides the orgy.. flugs.

By pointing out a fact that would be contrary to a persons belief (in an organiztion such as JWs) you are messing with their whole world. To accept the fact as valid would be too painful because the persons whole belief system would be compromised. Our minds have defense mechanisms in place to protect us from such pain. The same is true for Mormons, who I deal quite a bit with. When your religious and social world become so intertwined it is impossible to unravel the two without destroying both.

Yeah, try Salt Lake City in winter time, now theres a test of faith. Street work at 6 am was goddamn cold. Trudging through the snow on one unshoveled sidewalk after another. People would get pissed because they would stand there with the door open letting out their heat while you blithered on and on. I think they would take the watchtower just to get back inside. All of that just for a goddamn donut, and not even Krispy Kreme.

Oh yeah, to answer the post, I just needed to get my numbers. Round up always.

For those of you who attend a church

i was raised a jw & left when i was 19. my husband went to a few different churches growing up (catholic, methodist etc) but he doesn't really consider himself a member of any particular denomination.

he considers himself a christian, although he isn't sure what he believes or if he believes in the bible as god's word.. i have run from any type of organized group that is controlling.

i don't know if i believe in god, or the bible as anything more than a series of stories with life lessons in them.

I dont know why exactly people feel the need to belong to an organization to worship. I imagine we could discuss that forever without any resolution.
I will teach my children to find the answers for themselves. My daughter has attended LDS church with her grandparents on occasion and has a basic concept of Jesus and God. But when she starts asking questions I point out what different people believe and that all people do not believe the same way. I dont tell her which is the correct way because in all honesty I dont know and neither does anyone else.
I guess this doesnt qualify as a response to your post because I dont attend a church but not attending is not such a bad thing. I think going to church for the sake of "going to church" is wrong. Only go if you buy into it.

the posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.

here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.

though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.

Star Wars figures

last year i retrieved my star wars collection from my dad's house.

i was a star wars freak since i was 6 years old and i first saw the film.

many of the origional old figures were missing and i wondered if they had just been lost over the years.

Interestingly, I was allowed to start my collection over later on. Apparently the "new light" about Star Wars didn't last very long. But those very first figures were a little different then the ones they made later on and are buried somewhere....

Last year I retrieved my Star Wars collection from my dad's house. I was a Star Wars freak since I was 6 years old and I first saw the film. Many of the origional old figures were missing and I wondered if they had just been lost over the years. My stepmother reminded me that I had to bury some in the backyard because of a talk a CO gave about these demonic figures. I have a very vague memory of this. My grandmother (who was never JW) tells me of a JW friend who around the same era had to give away all of her kids stuffed animals.
This must have been around 1976-77.

Does anyone older than me know what this was all about?

I got it for not wearing socks with my leather top-siders during the "miami vice" era. Then I got it another time just for wearing the top-siders themselves. I didn't always wear a suit jacket and that seemed to be a problem for some. The clothes-police elder was always on me even though his cheap ugly suits with huge fat tacky tie were probably more offensive to God than my bare ankles.

This same old line has been used against the r and f for years. We could only use society publications or those few approved outside resources for referance. If you wanted to know what Mormons believed then you couldnt read the book of Mormon, you had to find out from the society what the Mormons believed. (I always wondered who read the book to find out to tell us.)
If the "truth" is the truth then a few words to the contrary shouldn't decieve us, but rather strengthen our belief. Of course this is easier to see in retrospect.

I had no interest in the WTBS for 10 years now but I decided to look them up on the net and see what they were up to and I was suprised to find that their website was VERY limited. The WTBS has always bragged about their use of technology. Whats more is that there are many XJW sites easily found by search. I think they should be very concerned about the flock having such easy access to this "dangerous" info.
