Amazing. Havnt been to a meeting in over ten years and I see not a damn thing has changed. You could pull out one of these from fifteen years ago and it would be talking about the same thing. In fact, I think they could really conserve on paper usage and just make a one page leaflet per year anytime they had anything new to say.

Between The WTS And The Deep Blue Sea
by hillary_step inmany people leave the wts after a short period, often only measured in weeks, of theological discovery.
it is not an easy matter to recognize that the belief system upon which your whole emotional persona has been built has serious flaws, some sinister in nature, and often this leads to a rapid confrontation with the elders.
letters, most of them depressingly repetitive in content hit service desks in local branches worldwide, a few weeks later a sterile announcement is made in a congregation and the apostate conveyor belt shifts forward slightly, waiting for its next victim.. suddenly many find themselves outside in the cold, with little support, often without friends, sometimes with fatally wounded marriages and above all a crippling sense of confusion as to what one should now adhere to as a belief system.. my plea in this post if for all those caught in that no-mans-land, between the wts and the deep blue sea, not to play by the rules thrust upon you, but to plot your own passage over the seas of what is your life, and yours alone.

Trilobite, I dont understand the desire to "attack" the WTBS. We must all bear responsibility for our own actions. Unless one is raised in the org. (as I was), one would have to choose to believe what the JW's teach. As for us children of the "great crowd", we must hold our parents directly responsible as they are the ones who made the decision for us, at least untill we were of age.
I am satisfied just to be out and able to finally deal with my past life in the JW org. This forum has been truly helpful to me personally and I know the same is true for many others, and many more to come.I know that many posts dont get replied to, but that does not mean that they are not getting read, and making people think.

Overweight JWs -- on the increase?
by Seeker inyes, i know, the title is a pun.
it was deliberate.. i can recall in the 1970s seeing very few overweight jws.
in fact, i used to think (in my arrogant jw manner) that this was a sign of how jws were better at self-control than worldly people.

Dins: Finally someone mentions the cheese danish. We must not forget to give the cheese danish the respect and honor that it deserves. Although burritos and hoagies are very valued members of the convention food delegation, we should never forget the role that cheese danishes played in getting us through 3 endlessly boring convention days.

A New Breed Of JW Emerging?
by Englishman inis there a new breed of jw emerging, i wonder?.
i know that there are lots of real brainwashed dubs around who see demons behind every car boot sale item and who scuttle off to the elders with every bit of tittle-tattle imaginable, but, i think that there is a new type of dub who quietly does just as he / she pleases.. this is what i think: many of the long-serving jw's who have seen the 1975 failure and the 1914 generation change are now approaching old age with something of a jaundiced eye, and are choosing to do their own thing in their remaining years.
in conversations i am picking up it seems that the elders are being regarded somewhat derisively by many jw's.

I have tried to stay completely away for 10 years so I havn't noticed any change. The ones in my family seem to be the same as always.
Black Man you said"I feel that a large percentage of JW's would leave, if they only had a support group to express their true feelings. Most JW are old timers, with many years in the org, so their thinking is - 'where would I go at this point in my life, I might as well stay, and keep my doubts to myself.'"
-I agree, and imagine how difficult for someone who has spent most of their life in, and then contemplate leaving. How do they admit to themselves that it was all for nothing? -

Good post Randy. Ii almost seems that anytime we can view a group of people as a single entity, we are vulnerable to fanatical views.
When you hear phrases like "those people" and "you people" you can bet that some wild, blanket accusation will follow. And that type of thinking leads to fanaticism.Rex, I have noticed the change. Kind, well written posts as of late.

YES! Flag football! Momma says foosball is the devil but I play anyway. I love to play football and it was so painful not to be able to play when I was in school. I played as much as could in the neighborhood and now I play just about every week. Have played league football and I love it. Its fun to go out and play against people who have played in organized sports and still be competitive even though I didnt get to play when I was younger.

How about this: "But the report from Ground Zero is really heartwarming. My eyes were almost in tears as a warm feeling came up to me as I read the courage and love these brothers had for the workers and how people no matter how strong and powerful they look like needs the comfort of the Scriptures as the real source of strength. That day, those elders were really angels sent to Ground Zero"
Now elders are angels as well.
And some one pipes in with this "I wonder how the brothers felt at the end of that day.
Would they be sad because of the sights they had seen and the despair they had encountered - or would they be full of joy that they had been used by Jehovah in such a marvelous way?
Perhaps both?
It must have taken a lot of courage and prayer to do what they did"Why would they be sad, that event saved those people from dying at armageddon. Courage? Courage was running into a buring skyscraper to save someones life.

I just find hillarious that these stories are always from "somebody who emailed me a story about someone who works with someone who knows an elder who is in the congregation where the brother who was with another brother who" did the thing.
