I love the Atheist Experience show on YouTube! I just re-watched this video and it's one of my favorites.

i think it is inevitable.
i don't worry about it but it just seems that the human race is going down a road that they can't make a turn off.. they are probing/discovering how the human mind works and produces intelligence down to the individual molecule.
now with the invention of the super quantum computer soon we will be able to build even better artificial intelligence greater than our own, so it will be easily able to out smart us because will we be a bunch of dumb apes first discovering how to make fire in it's eyes.. it will have it's own different agendas than us humans.
@redpilltwice
I also don't think that ai will make us extinct, but there has been remarkable progress in ai over the past few years.
"Over the course of millions of AlphaGo vs AlphaGo games, the system progressively learned the game of Go from scratch, accumulating thousands of years of human knowledge during a period of just a few days. AlphaGo Zero also discovered new knowledge, developing unconventional strategies and creative new moves that echoed and surpassed the novel techniques it played in the games against Lee Sedol and Ke Jie."
(Bold is mine.)
aside from obvious things that most people agree on, like theft being wrong and the importance of family, i can't think of a single thing i agree with the jws on, nothing that's specific to their religion anyway.
do you have any?.
I may agree with some things in principle, but not in absolutes. I could conceive of situations in which stealing would be morally right (National Treasure).
One of my biggest issues with JWs (and a lot of other religions) is when you ask why something is wrong and their answer is "Because the Bible says so." That's an appeal to authority. Matt Dillahunty mentions that in this video. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Pygo0JBK3xA
can anyone give me a valid reason for it?
growing old is a drag.
the witnesses idea of ever lasting life, that you will come back to your most youthful state is such a bs answer..
If scientists ever find a way for us to live forever, then we'll live through plenty of technological advancement. Eventually we'll have fully immersive virtual reality where we'll be able to visit any period from history or live in a world that we create to be whatever we want, not to mention having the ability to travel the universe.
And there are even some people who believe we will merge with artificial intelligence and become transhuman. If such a thing occurs, then presumably our whole way of thinking will be different. It may be impossible to imagine just what we could conceive of in that state.
I think I would want to live forever given all of the possibilities, but I'm not sure if science will ever save us from aging, much less in my lifetime.
we all know that this cult will drive those trying to leave to desperate measures, and today by brother was very nearly one of those statistics.
he slashed his thigh with a kitchen knife and was bleeding out until he called the police.. i got a call on my way home from work from a police officer, coincidentally it was one of my old friends from school who's now a cop.
he told me my brother is in hospital after an attempted suicide and has lost some blood but will be ok. but i should get to the hospital as he's asking for me.
I'm so sorry for you and your brother, and I hope he gets the help he needs. My mom basically asked me what I would gain by not being a witness. For one thing, I would no longer be a part of a religion that does shit like this.
i've been bi for a long time but i know it's wrong if you want to be a jw... .
I don't think that your feelings are wrong. If there's a god, then he has far more important things to do than worry about who we have sex with.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Maybe you could share a few more details so we could understand your situation a bit better.
There's nothing wrong with your feelings. Do you think a loving God would have any issue with you being bi? Do you want to be a JW? If so, then why?
growing up a woman in the cult was pretty bleak.
most of the adult women i knew were either depressed sad women or an embarrassment to me.
i was typical kid in that regard.
Watchtower loves to make false analogies. I remember one time when headship in marriage was discussed, the speaker said that a marriage is like a ship. A ship has only one captain (the husband) but that doesn't mean the engineer (the wife) is any less important. What's ridiculous about the analogy is that a woman can captain a ship too! Also, what qualifies them to compare marriage to a ship? I think a much better analogy would be to compare marriage to a business run by two partners who each have a 50% share.
i used to be a staunch believer in god.
maybe its technology and science advancing so much thats got me doubting idk.
do you believe in god?
I'm an agnostic atheist, which means I don't know that there's no God, but I don't currently believe in a god. The argument that God would have to exist because things are complex doesn't convince me because if God created complex things, then it stands to reason that he/she/it would have to be complex, meaning God would require a creator.
