Why the story of Noah's ark is scientifically impossible: Minimum Viable Population
by ILoveTTATT2 ini didn't know this but there is a way to calculate the minimum population required for a certain species to survive over the next 100 to 1000 years.
this is called the "minimum viable population".. genesis states that 2 (or 7) of each "kind" went into the ark.
supposing that each "kind" means each "species", and they all could fit in the ark, and they came out safely, most of the species would have died, because it is impossible to survive, long-term, with a starting population of 2.this is interesting:"an mvp of 500 to 1,000 has often been given as an average for terrestrial vertebrates when inbreeding or genetic variability is ignored.

Woman's Purpose
by StopTheTears ini'm probably going to say some things here that will disappoint many.
there are some that may look back over the years and say "man i really blew it" i'm not writing the following to scold for failures, but rather to help those who are young enough to put into practice what god wills for their life, and also to those of us who are in our middle years that still have time to change some things, in order to please god and find a peace that only being in his will can bring.
first let me say that god didn't create man for you.

I have to get this off my chest...cult equals guilible
by Sour Grapes intwo weeks ago while visiting a friend in north carolina, i agreed to go with him to the sunday public talk.
the public talk was about how the witnesses have the direction of angels while going in service.
the speaker told some real doozies and you could hear the "oohs and ahhs" from the audience.

I fully agree with you that all those stories are stupid. I also believe that many are made up. Do you notice that they are never told in first person? An in the decades I was a JW hearing all those stupid stories, never, not once I heard of anyone knowing any of the people involved. It always happens in some distant place away from where people listening to the story are.
Anyway, the one thing that I'd say, though, is that although I'm not an expert in the matter, I believe that gullible is not what I'd use to describe people who love hearing those stories or people who join the WT and other organizations that harm them. I think that any person at any level of intelligence can fall in the hands of the WT. Just my opinion. I can't tell by my own experience since I was born in.

One of the best vid's I've ever seen for debunking and disproving Jehovah's Witnesses
by StoneWall inas some of you know i'm not a religious person at all after leaving the jw's but there was a link on another site i was on and the link was to a pastor's vid.
(about exposing jw's as false prophets etc)being that i'm not at all interested in hearing a sermon, i was going to just leave the site and continue researching some other stuff but then curiosity made me wonder if he truly knew anything about jw's or was just going to be another religious leader downing jw's in an effort to make his version of the "gospel" sound more appealing.i have to admit i was pleasantly surprised at the extent of his knowledge of scripture that jw's like to use as well as the history behind the organization.
many of the points he brought out we've covered here before and he arranged them in an easy to understand and follow sequence.i'd be interested in hearing what some of you think on the job he did on exposing the jw's(wt)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3o56jwgbjk.

Not sure why the second part of my post was edited out, so I'm posting it again. As I said, however, I see that something like that speaks to people who believe and rely on the bible believes. This may be useful for those looking for alternatives or questioning their faiths.

Welcome. Thank you for sharing. In this forum you will find people in various degrees of attachment/detachment to/from the WT. It's always good to see where every person is.

Why ex-JW's so knowledgeable when it comes to the Bible?
by James Mixon inover the years here on this site i have found over half of the folks can hold their own with any minister.. why when we leave the borg we become proficient on any subject on the bible.. why did we go down that road?
my intention was to get close to jehovah (searching the bible), but i. guess i found lucifer.
i'am ask all the time, how did you go from a true believer to calling the bible a book.

Over the years here on this site I have found over half of the folks can hold their own with any minister.
Why when we leave the borg we become proficient on any subject on the Bible.
Not sure if you have noticed, but as JWs we get the bible shove down our throats every day, so it doesn't make sense stating that we are "proficient" in the bible after leaving. All the JW bible crap that was taught to us doesn't just disappear. That's information that was given to us while we were JWs. So where do you get that we are "bible proficient" after we leave?
Why did we go down that road?
Seems like this may be your own spiritual path. The road I took and decisions I made, and the life I chose are mine and only mine. The same thing applies to every human being.
My intention was to get close to Jehovah (searching the bible), but I guess I found Lucifer. I'am ask all the time, how did you go from a true believer to calling the Bible a book of BS.....
What the hell happen????I think that's for you to figure out. Also, are you asking because you're surprise of your progress or because you miss the person you were?
On another topic someone mention, JW's turn out more atheist than any other religion. Why?
There's absolutely no proof, no statistics, no numbers, no research and no studies that show that JWs become atheists at a larger proportion than any other religious faith. Someone mentioning that doesn't make it true.
I guess to become an atheist you must know the Bible.
And that's what they call making an educated decision.

I don't need to be crass to express my point, which is, personally I don't need any other person or institution (religious or otherwise) to tell me that the JWs are full of it. I can't care less about the bible, so knowing what it says and using it to disprove what another person or organization says is not something I find relevant.

Do a person need a college education to be a good JW
by Santa inyea i know it's not required or anything, but a lot of the people in the congregation are clearly in need of help that the elders can not give them and none of the other members seem to want to help.
so is it wrong for a person to want to get advanced social and medical training skills to help those in need?.

scratchme1010
...so should I get an education anyway?
Any institution, person, organization, group or anything or anyone who tells you that learning is not a good thing is not minding your best interest. What relationship there is between learning something and having skills enough to provide for your family (or more skills than the ones needed for that matter), and living forever in paradise on Earth? That made up BS from a controlling organization. Besides, at least in the USA, now every person should have skills to get any kind of job. Unskilled labor is pretty much gone. So yes, go learn something.

Why disbelieving in God is foolish
by HopeEverLasting inlook, now before i speak, i want to say that it is very okay for someone to not believe.
are they hurting anyone?
killing anyone?

scratchme1010
...But there is a problem when you continually hate on someone for what they believe when what you believe is just as foolish as what you say their belief is. Do you really think continuing saying God isn't real, and you're dumb if you believe that is going to make me change my mind about God? Please. I'm sorry that you all like to attack others beliefs because they don't fit your own.
I love seeing these believers always playing victim. We non believers are not trying to shove our non-believes down other people's throats. You believers are. You are the ones believing in non-believers deserving to die or some kind of punishment. You are the ones always vomiting all kinds of condemnations on other who don't believe, or those who don't behave according to the morals you preach (and never follow anyway), and then you turn around and claim to be attacked when you get put in your place or called on your BS.
Nobody is attacking you, sweetie. Just mind your own effing business.
