"We Must Obey the Org - Rather Than God!"
by The Searcher inbefore geoffrey jackson of the governing body was questioned by the australian royal commission, he was asked whether he wanted to swear on the bible or take an affirmation; he chose to swear on the bible.
the present governing body of jehovah's witnesses (including jackson) deems that swearing on the bible is a matter of conscience!.
w03 1/15 p. 21 questions from readers - "is it scripturally acceptable for a christian to place his hand on the bible and swear to tell the whole truth in court?

The problem of sex (or why I'm not an atheist)
by EdenOne inas i write this under the shadow of the walls of saint jorge's castle in lisbon, two very bored jws are standing just five metres away from me with a literature cart .... in my journey away from jwism i accepted evolution as a fact.
i also became anti-religion, agnostic and apatheist.
and, while i lean towards the persuasion of the atheist arguments, there are a few reasons that make it difficult for me to completely discard the notion of an intelligent origin of life.

In my journey away from JWism I accepted evolution as a fact.
This is where I find an issue. The JWs promote this black and white mentality, that if you don't believe their nonsense then you have to believe the opposite. Where does it say anywhere that one has to become an atheist or evolutionist simply because you don't believe in religion or the bible?
Something that I learn was that the WT not only tells people what they are supposed to be, do and believe, but also tells them what they are supposed to be, do and believe if they leave. So, EdenOne, look for how much of your way of thinking may still be influenced by the way the WT promotes that people should think. Your post still resembles that all-or-nothing, black and white mentality. You don't need to be an atheist to believe in evolution, you don't need to believe in evolution to be an atheist, you don't need to constantly look for scientific proof if you truly believe in intelligent design. Your belief is just your choice.

Thank you WT!
by Mandrake inwell here's the thing... my brother-in-law needed some marketing boost for his dental clinic (i'm a dental student by now, her sister, my girlfriend, also), so i designed some brochures and today they were ready at the print studio.. i told him... "look, i spent 20 years in that cult, they have a very boring message, and they still managed to achieve 7m or more adepts, so i will distribute this brochures in the area this way: just like in field service, drawing some territories and "preaching" block by block... just to know were and when our advertising is being delivered".
so i started preaching the "dental good news", it was so easy compared to field service!!!
everyone were very receptive in the clinic's neighbourhood (it's in a downtown area in santiago, cl).

Mandrake, I relate to your story. I used the same skill I got from the WT when I was doing HIV/AIDS prevention outreach. Even that unpopular subject was an easier sell than the WT nonsense.

Ideas to discreetly identify the awoken among us
by Truthexplorer inok. i know this has been brought up in the past, but i have often wondered who in our halls are awake (for those of us who attend).
there are some i would consider a 'maybe', but no way of ever really knowing.. so here is my idea.
i hope it doesn't sound too masonic,.

Maybe this is an advantage that gay JWs have, We know how to ID each other. You know, the "gaydar" thing. We know who's in, who's out, and who's doing the in and out.

She puts up with 35 years of all other kinds of nonsense and this is what she finds wrong! 35 years later! I wonder if she's a compulsive gambler and owes money to loan sharks or something. That's the only way her actions make sense.

How the Revised, Revised NWT COULD Look Online....
by The Searcher inthere must be an abundance of scriptures just waiting to be reworded by the magnificent seven in brooklyn.
here are a few i'd offer.
i'd love to hear suggestions for other "revisions" by my fellow contributors here.. (psalm 110:4) "jehovah has sworn an oath, and he will not change his mind: "you are a priest forever in the manner of melchizedek, but you will be joined by another 144,000 melchizedek-type king/priests.

What happens if everyone you care about suddenly wake up?
by StarTrekAngel ini've been at this quest for a good part of two years.
i've experienced every negative feeling a human body and mind can experience.
i have, at times, become consumed.

Interesting post, very interesting questions.
That got me thinking... what would you do, if suddenly, in a short span of time, all the people you care about wake up from this cult. You may spend some time healing by sharing with each other what the journey felt like but eventually it will be over.
It's family, there will be an entire life to share. I definitely don't need preaching nor any of the JW activities to feel close to my family. Making up for lost time can be great. What would we do is the least of my concerns. There's an entire life there to live and explore.
Sure I agree that the best revenge is living a happy life but I am not talking about revenge. I am talking about coming to the sudden realization that you no longer have a fight. Something that you did for so long that it became a habit, a way of life.
Talking about my own experiences, the "after the fight", no longer feeling angry or reactive to my JW upbringing has been the best part of my life. Once I discovered that life is nothing like what I was taught, that it's not about preparing for some future destruction, nor that there's no need to be in survival mode all the time, I have been great. I have pursued many of my passions, formed my own family, have a career, wonderful friends and family of choice.
Where at times you have lost the real sense of purpose and you were just looking for the next WT fiasco to analyze with no real idea as to how that would help your goal.
Some have resorted to doing charity. That seems like an idea. I just wonder how you can take in anything that involves a "cause" without the fear that you are going into the next Watchtower.
The charity work I have done, I did after I took care of myself, at a point where I felt that I was doing that out of the kindness of my heart, NOT as a substitute for my JW life. My purpose in life has nothing to do with my contributions I've made to make this a better world.
Has anyone asked themselves the same question?
Not me personally. When I walked away from the JWs, I was very clear that I needed to do a lot of work on myself. I was born in, so I needed to get to know me first before making any decisions around life purpose or anything like that, Those things were not priority. I learned self love, learned who I am, and I accepted myself and felt comfortable in my skin before thinking about doing anything for anyone else.
I feel fortunate for having that clarity as I left. Part of the trauma and the negative influence from the WT is making people feel like having a "purpose" and having "a place to go" should be the most important thing for people to do, where the reality is that none of those things matter if there's no love for the self first. I din't buy into any of that nonsense. I matter, my well being matters more than looking for any purpose or whatever I decide to do that doesn't help me and my needs first.

...geeze they have to know everything!
Thank you for sharing this story, not really a new thing, but it certainly shows their messed up way of thinking.
What I quoted from you was what really stood up for me, that disgusting attitude of intruding in people's lives and decisions and feeling entitled to it.
Anyway, welcome to "the world", oh wait, you were always part of it, even when you believed otherwise
