hi all, just wondering if there's anything going around about the elders receiving instruction from the society to give inactive ones and disfellowshipped ones one last chance to come back?

i ask because i have a still in family member that i received a message from, and urging me to go back.

the elders are apparently saying there is no time left.

I have heard that they are trying to encourage people to come back, but as always, they never take a full stand on it. It's all around gossip and whispers.

The JWs who knew me as a JW I'm sure know better than daring attempting to even say anything to me. They know very well what their place is.

Can you prove that our entire universe and existence is not a computer simulation?

if you were a computer programmer and you were to create a simulated automated world, that would constantly evolve and self run after initial designs.

first you would have to code the rules, laws, and core elements of this world.

while this is being coded, the program is not run yet, so none of it exists.

In a more serious note, morally they are repugnant. They do have caused the death of people and can't care less about it. Legally, though, I think it's possible to prove them liable, though not a very easy task.

Happiness and Freedom On A Paradise Earth?

at a recent meeting there was a watchtower article about life in paradise.

they were saying that even when witnesses finally get there they will still be under the strict instructions from the elders and gb.

they may be given jobs that they will find unpleasant, also the preaching work will be ongoing because of all the resurrected people who need to learn about why they are given another chance.

How can a world suddenly become a paradise earth, imagine how much clearing up there will be to do after Armageddon!! Also the resurrected people are not going to be immediately well behaved are they? Some may still not want to do things their way. It does not seem like a wonderful reward to me, just more dominance and hard work!

One of the things that never has made any sense to me is the concept of spending this life preparing for the next. It's never made sense to me to think that I have to spend this life working for the next life, precisely because of that nonsense that in the next life there's still going to be more work to do. It's all nonsense.

for the world, michael jackson's death was the death of an insanely well known person.. in latin america, juan gabriel was like our michael jackson, he was that well known.. generations of people all over latin america knew his songs.

you heard his songs when you broke up with someone and went to the bar, you heard his songs in karaoke, you heard his songs every saturday when your grandma played music loudly and she only had the one cassette and it was his.... i hadn't cried for the death of an artist before, but today i did.. there are sooo many memories, both good and bad, in mine and hundreds of millions of people, in which he was a part.. mexico and all of latin america is in pain right now.. may he rest in peace..

I went to see him in concert a few decades ago. More than a performer he wrote a lot of songs for other artists. Amazing talent. May he rest in peace.

I am approaching 76 years old. I can clearly recall that AWAKE! statement and similar during the pre-1975 hype -- "staying alive in '75", et al. I can remember being angry for the first time with Watchtower literature since my 1956 baptism, suspecting that they were running ahead of what the Bible was directly telling us. It took me another 12 years, however, before other Watchtower blunders finally brought me to my senses.
I mean no disrespect in the illustrations toward those in menial, yet honorable occupations. I cry inwardly for those who bought in to that influence, giving themselves permission to take the easy way out as to advanced education. Yes, furthering one's education is a difficult task, even impossible to some. But, to those with the passion and resources to pursue some exciting career, it's a tragedy when one neglects that opportunity.

Thank you for posting this. The end or the world thing has been the mos disgusting thing that the WT has done to people. So many people made so many important life changing decisions around it, and the WT takes no responsibility for the harm they have caused.

They are a very very bad cult and can't care less about any person they harm.

Did the flood happen?

so we were talking about noah for our family worship tonight and it ended with a little debate between me and my parents about how the flood was possible.

you know, where did the water come from, how did all the animals fit, etc.

of course it led nowhere and my parents came up with some strange theories like that there was "an expanse of water in the sky" and that's where all the water came from.

My two cents. Rather than proving or disproving that event happening, I think about how's that supposed to make me join a religious organization? How is that story or event supposed to make me want to worship God? By fear instead of by choice? Will that be a legitimate, genuine devotion if I have to be scared the crap out of in order to pay attention to "loving Jehovah"?

Then there's this, if it happened and if it happened for the purpose the bible says, it was a very crappy job from perfectly-knows-everything-there's-to-know-in-the-universe "jehovah". Today the world is flooded (no pun intended) with the kind of people who were supposed to be eliminated from the planet by that flood. In other words, Noah and God lost (we won). So God's catastrophic tactics of destruction and extreme fear and life threats to make you do as he says (a) doesn't go well with legitimately worshiping him, but most importantly (b) DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. Just look at how the world is now, compared to what that story claims it is.

a few weeks back i showed the guardian article about the borg refusing to cooperate with the charity commission into child abuse to a fellow jw.

their response was quite amazing.

they told me that in the 50s-80s people didn't know about child abuse, didn't know it was wrong and no one really believed children when they claimed they had been abused - even worldly people.. they said that alot of the time children lie about being abused or therapists plant false memories in their heads and that apostates lie about being abused to undermine our faith.. about the borg not cooperating with the commission they said that it was probably because they wanted to protect the identities of jw's who had been abused.

I do know that in the United States there were absolutely no legal protection against children abuse. It was so bad that in the first case of child abuse that made it to court, the prosecution had to use laws to protect animals and try to demonstrate that the abused child fell into the protected animal category and therefore the animal anti-abuse law protected the child. Yes, there were laws that protected animals in USA before there were laws that protected children.

Today the WT still can't care less about children. All the actions they take are forced actions by the law and are taken to protect themselves, not for the benefit of children.

They have no interest in children's well being. As I have posted before, look how all the children are never removed when they are talking about all the adult themes that they talk about in their meetings. Just go to one meeting and start counting the number of things that children should not be exposed to that they talk about.

The WT has never cared about the well being of children, period.

They expect people not to be part of the world. At best, they will point out that the time and energy spent in the parade should have been better spent preaching. At worst, you can get disfellowshipped (depending on the elders you have to deal with).

1. the great tribulation - a gruelling/horrifying time which has never occurred before.. 2. armageddon.. 3. a thousand years of “loving” molding and refinement.. 4. a second armageddon at the end of the thousand years.. the 144,000 will experience none of these things.. isn't it strange that the gc has to prove themself so much but the 144,000 don't???!!!
