The challenge of " truth" and " moral opinion"
by The Rebel inwhen growing up in a "proper" j.ws household:-.
a) our moral opinions are conditioned by this environment and upbringing.. b) to hold to jws belief and moral opinions gives our life purpose.. c) what we believe we hold it to be true.. d) in terms of approval it can be difficult for the mind to accept logical evidence if our life is based on "truth" and " moral opinions" that conflict with our conscience.. anyway i am not sure where i am going with this o.p?.
i guess my point is that settling factual and logical disputes with jws has proven more challenging than i realized.

I guess my point is that settling factual and logical disputes with Jws has proven more challenging than I realized. In order to explain this I illustrated my point with those born in . But the same argument can be used on any convert of a belief or moral system.
Yes, reasoning with facts is the one thing that brainwashing takes away. I have posted in other threads about how one can get a better result when you address their feelings, not what they reason. People cannot join an organization based on reasoning that they have not yet learned. What makes them join and stay is what the Wt makes the feel, being that comfort, hope, a sense of certainty, etc. If you argue that instead of what the bible says in some of its books, I'm sure you may get a better/stronger reaction.
My conclusion is it is not always that a poster is deliberately argumentative, when they fail to offer convincing reasons to justify a belief or moral opinion. The trick is to know when we are not going to convince someone on the validity of our argument
Looking from a knowledge-only perspective, absolutely. The "argumentative" part comes from them defending the thing that to them represents important life changing decisions that they have made. A person cannot automatically say "Sure, you're right. My son died because we didn't have him get a transfusion, I never pursued any financial goal, career aspiration, and had to marry this passive/aggressive ____ out of pressure from my congregation peers, and I have dedicated all my life and made all my important life decisions around what I argue, but no problem. You're right; I'll just make a change in believe system and life changing decision making because of what you just showed me". That cannot happen. What they defend is what they feel, not what they know.

he talked of deut.

That starts so much gossip.
As always. The only difference is that this time was not covert. Gossip is the flesh and blood of every cult. It's what keeps people in control, afraid and therefore, obedient.

"Hard work never killed anyone," or "I have to give up knitting."
by compound complex ingreetings, my aging friends:.
it's not really a funny subject, our getting old and our bodies falling apart.
sure, as the saying goes, hard work won't kill you, but it can wear out your body.

Any comments you have on this subject would be appreciated. I don't understand everything medical I read. Additionally, I wonder how to avoid future flare ups. After three days, the pain has totally dissipated. During those three days, I had only minimal use of my entire right arm.
I'm sorry that you're going through that. Have you consulted a doctor? I do suffer from problems in my right arms for using the computer mouse since 1985. What helps me are massages. Once a month I get a massage (it was the doctor's recommendation). It does wonders.
About aging, oh well. Not a lot more we can do. That feeling of sadness to see our bodies slowly getting tired and sick is not a great feeling, and is what may JWs use to sell their paradise on Earth crap. To me it just is what it is.

Ghost image of the Apostle Paul appears on Google maps
by jwleaks ini found this ghost image on google maps of the apostle paul walking on one of his missionary journeys through the region now known as turkey.. evidently the google map car was able to capture the spiritual afterglow of the apostle paul while he was walking along a roadway on his one of his missionary journeys.
interestingly the google mapping computer was able to create an overlapping image from the first century and from the twenty-first century.. .

I have a big nose...
by The Rebel insurprisingly whilst hating being born with this over large nose, women have fallen in love with my nose.
so with regards to look and charm, what i hated about my physical attributes, many women have found attractive.
anyway i just wanted to say what we find unattractive about ourselfs, doesn't necessarily mean others do.

Anyone who knows basic Photoshop can tell that picture of Daniel Craig was retouched, and poorly.

New JW Talk Show - "The Inside Story"
by neat blue dog inhas anybody seen the new half-hour jw talk show called the inside story?
the pilot is included in part 2 of the latest gilead graduation program, and they said more will likely come.. basically, it's probably one of the most cringeworthy programs to ever come out of jw broadcasting.
it has all the tropes: an opening monologue, a studio audience, a live band, and guests that move down the couch to the left as the next guest is introduced.

I have no interest in seeing that, plus I don't need to see it to know I'm not going to like it.

Apostate carts
by Normalfulla inso i've recently been travelling about usa and mexico and of course seen the carts parked at tourist spots all over and i had a funny thought ...if somehow we could get a bunch of identical carts together and print up a placard with a few key facts about the real truth with jwfacts logo and just park them right in the same areas ,dress up in our old meeting clothes and stand about with a coffee and look on our phones i wonder what response we would get from anyone ?
or park them outside assembly's and just stand.off at a distance ...basically the same thing they do to all society !.

That would be a great joke to play at their expense, but personally I feel no need to make a point to them. To me, recovering is from letting them as out of my life as possible. Engaging in that is just still dealing with them.
That said, I just came back from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I didn't see any JW. So that's a great place to escape from the carts if you'd like (and great town to visit).

Only Jehovah's people
by rebel8 intoday i went to a large talk.. there was no arguing or swearing, just kindness and respect.. it was orderly and calm.. trash was put in the proper place.
people were even picking up litter that wasn't even theirs.. the speakers were passionate and inspiring.. the entire event was orchestrated by volunteers.. it was march for science, not a dub ass-embly.
so much for "only jehoopla's people" behaving like this at large events..

rebel8, your post revived a long lost memory. Way back when I also felt amazed at some public places and see how well behaved people were, and by choice, not because of some Jehovah/paradise crap. I too was surprised to notice that.
