Watchtower History Gem: I Found When Maria Got Her Teaching Certificate

i consider myself an amateur watchtower history buff.

i have always read that maria frances ackley russell, charles taze russell's first and only wife, went to a teacher training college and was a teacher for a number of years before marrying russell.

but, i have never seen proof that she truly did finish college and became a certified teacher.

Mothering Sunday

the tv media are talking about this today... in u k anyway.

as a witness , my mum never expected or received any recognition on that day .

now, on the outside it seems very harsh and nit-picking.

We never had a direct celebration, but there was always a mention in my home about people's birthdays and mother's day. For father's day, my father used to always make a joke about that being "dog's day" (those were the days before PETA and people talking to dogs like they are babies, that we see today).

There was never an official celebration, but it was certainly always acknowledged.

My Dissociation letter

hi to everyone!i was summoned to the judicial committee and went.

it was a respectful conversation from one side to the other.

in the end i handed the dissociation letter in hand and a binding to each of the elders, with an article i wrote on the subject, "are jehovah's witnesses a destructive sect?

That is quite an impactful letter! Very powerful thoughts. Love the confidence quality to it, and the mention that you were and elder and also grew up in that organization.

They tend to dismiss people because they claim that people haven't been long enough or involved enough in that organization. They can't say that about you.

Pondering the real numbers

i was sat in the assembly hall yesterday, wondering how many pimo ones like me there was there.

or even if they don't know ttatt still don't believe it for whatever reason.. i think there must be more of (us) there than we all realise.

i mean, brothers reaching out is at an all time low, information via the internet is at an all time high and the preaching work has now become a motionless, speechless babysitting of a book shelf advertising a website as someone here pointed out!.

Way back when I had similar thoughts, and my theory was that I can identify those by their behavior, which was similar to mine. Those that constantly find an excuse to get out, walk around, always have some kind of something to take care of, those who always volunteer to do work that keeps them away from sitting all day.

Never had the chance to prove my theory, but I think some behaviors are telling.

How in the hell would it ever work? Everyone is youthful, everyone is perfect, everyone's personality is loving and kind. How would you choose somebody? Just randomly or what? Another thing that just doesn't make sense.

Maybe going back to ancient bible times when you would just buy a woman, trade her, or have your friends sexually assault her as they please, just to show hospitality.

"can you show me any scriptures which says that spectators were to be invited to a ritual which is exclusively for future king/priests in heaven?

Or not; it's ok to just say thank you, let them be and dismiss the invitation. Nothing wrong with that.

Well, he was in a position in that organization that not many were. His perspective is quite unique. I agree, but other people stories are as good and powerful (IMHO).

the last election had me staring like a deer in the headlights.

i couldn't stand either candidate!

Congratulations! Now don't forget to actually vote. Registering to vote has a lot of meaning, but actually voting made me feel more part of the world, which is one of the best feelings ever for a born-in.

Who is going to make the earth a paradise?

when i was a jw elder and dreamed of living in paradise, i pictured all of the animals, beautiful people, perfect weather, welcoming back the dead and teaching them about god.

the only problem is to get to the point of making the earth a paradise first there will be around 8 billion bodies to bury.

then how are we going to dig through all of the rubble and collapsed buildings using what tools?

I don't think that God will lift a finger to help unless he just waves his magic wand and presto the dead bodies and rubble are vaporized.

I was always questioning that myself. Thanks for sharing.

Seven Seconds

so i just finished watching the netflix series "seven seconds", about a police cover up of a black teenager killed by a police officer in a hit and run.

it was filmed in jersey city, nj at the end of the last episode as the camera panned the area, they showed the jersey city assembly hall.

i actually helped restore that building and helped in building the addition..
