  Hypothetical: If WTS Reformed...?

  as i said in the subject line, this is purely hypothetical.

  what do you think would happen if the wtbts leaders decided to reboot some of the organization's more controversial practices.

  not that they would deny their claims to be jehovah's earthly representatives, nor the key elements of their eschatology; but in administrative outlooks.

  To me is still simple; organized religion is nonsense to me. I respect those who believe in it, and I know the important social function that, properly managed, it can have in society.

  Personally I don't need an organization to tell me to be kind and have decent morals. So to me it doesn't matter if they start doing drag shows to attract people. Organized religion is not necessary in my life.
  

  Also, Cold Steel, remember that we're not talking about a common religion. This is a cult we're talking about. That put things in a different perspective, as every decision they make is not in favor of anyone but themselves.

  Can't think how they will respond

  i've been chatting to the jws the past couple of weeks.the last time they called they showed me a video about a scientist who claimed that she had once been an atheist, but after studying with the jws she had changed her mind and now believed in an intelligent creator.

  what had convinced her was the process that activates the functioning of the lungs just after a baby has been born.after we had watched the video, the jws said that there are many people who believe that creation indicates an intelligent designer.in reply i asked them what they thought about the 'unintelligent' aspects of creation and i went into a few examples.at first they tried to write things off to imperfection due to adamic sin, but as the conversation went on they slowly realised that arguing 'imperfection' wasn't an adequate explanation for the points i was making.to cut a long story short, i ended up sending them a video via email where professor dawkins comments on an autopsy that highlights the impracticality of the laryngeal nerve in giraffes.i also sent them evidence of vestigial limbs in whales and a short article about biological atavism.in addition, i sent them an article that coincidentally was on the bbc news a few days ago about a boy in india who had a 7 inch vestigial tail removed.

  They will come up with the Bible, and that you need to have faith. Then they will try to attack the reliability and reputation of the publishers of the material you gave them.

  Something you can ask, which I think it's a bigger and more important question is what does any of that has to do with not celebrating birthdays, not using blood, not wearing tight pants, shunning family members for deciding not to believe that nonsense, and not going to college.

  Try to have them articulate any correlation between creationism and evolution and living 1000 years and having 144,000 people in heaven and Armageddon.

  They have no argument other than they say so, claiming that the bible says so.

  What kind of cheese do you like?

  i went to www.sensibus.com and they have 160 different kinds of cheese.

  i just do not know which cheese i want to order.

  any suggestions?

  Some cheeses go well with some foods/drinks and don't with some others. Some are better for a snack, some are better with wine. It depends on what kind of meal and purpose.

  i remember that we were always encouraged to let everyone at work know that you were one of jw's and therefore would not participate in any of their functions, parties etc.. this i outrightly refused to do.

  my reasoning was that i was employed and paid to do a job and therefore my religious beliefs were a personal matter and therefore had nothing to do with my work.

  secondly i had to work with these people.

  I didn't bother becoming a JW. That organization was shoved down my throat since the day I was born. I didn't have a choice.

  I'm quite sure I'm not the only born in who had to struggle to live and be whoever they choose.

  I can add a few more. BTW, I'm proud of each one of my actions.
  

  That's what they get when they try to grow converts since the day they are born.

  In the years I was a JW I ignored the following things (not in a specific order) that have specific directives from the WT:

  1. I went to college
  2. I had sex
  3. I had sex in the Kingdom Hall
  4. I had sex in the Assembiles
  5. I had sex while preaching
  6. I had sex during the memorial
  7. I had sex with a few brothers
  8. I lied about having sex
     
  9. I lied about the hours I preached
  10. I played the lottery
  11. I got involved in politics
  12. I celebrated my and other people's birthdays
  13. I lied to my bones about a whole lot of other things
  14. I lied to coworkers and some friends about being a JW
  15. I lied at work about what JWs are and aren't allowed
  16. I supported a friend who was having an abortion
  17. I directed people to other religious organizations
  18. I rarely read the magazines and literature; when I did it was because I felt obligated
  19. I told my mom that the JWs are full of --it
  20. I went to clubs
  21. I danced to Disco music
  22. I vogued to Madonna in the 90s
      
  23. I watched pretty much every Hollywood movie made in the 80s
  24. I had fancy haircuts, fashionable clothing (that i used to going to the clubs)
  25. I went to Rock concerts
  26. I got involved in activism
  27. I read other religious literature
  28. I integrated a few concepts of Budhism
  29. I participated in a few competitions (and won) in school
  30. I beat the crap out of some homophobic idiot that attempted to bully me
  31. I didn't get married in the congregation
  32. Said a lot of "bless you" after people sneezed
  33. Had a boyfriend
  34. Lied about having a boyfriend
  35. Had a JW girlfriend at the same time I had a boyfriend
      
  36. Brought the boyfriend to the KH with the excuse that he "was interested". Sat between him and my girlfriend
      
  37. Told a person I was giving Bible studies to stop taking them and encouraged him to look for spirituality somewhere else

  Those are a just few things I went against WT directives.

  The interesting thing is how those things prove that they are full of --it. According to their own believes, as the end comes closer, their numbers are supposed to dwindle since at some point they are expected to finish their preaching.

  Remember that according to them when the world is ready for Armageddon, there will be no more people interested, that's what is supposed to be the great sign that the great tribulation is going to start.

  Yet, they do not publicize that. Instead they try to exploit their members to bring in more people like a business model that starts failing for not keeping up with the times.

  Taking the Bible Lessons And Going To a KH For First Time

  i've taken the bible lessons but have never attended a kingdom hall.

  i was curious as to what point they begin to tighten the screws of control?

  I want to address the original post:

  I've taken the Bible Lessons but have never attended a Kingdom Hall. I was curious as to what point they begin to tighten the screws of control? Let's say you're a Baptist. At what point do they tell you that you can't attend other churches or read anything critical of the Society?

  Also, do they print any "how to" advice on how to bring these things up with those investigating "the Truth"? Have any of you guys had to broach these topics with a new or potential convert? What do they say? I've tried to imagine how one would bring up things like this and shunning to a new member or potential convert. I mean, there's a man or woman who's being shunned right there in the Hall. You think a visitor won't notice? Or what happens if a visitor just approaches the person been shunned and introduces himself? Do the handlers say, "Hey, we're not talking to that person!"

  So can anyone help me out on this? These are tough subjects to broach. Do you wait until they're baptized before you start unloading these things on them? And when do they become subject to being shunned?

  What do you want to accomplish? Do you want to be a JW and then leave? Do you want to stop taking Bible studies? You are not clear about what you want to do. Seems like you are more interested in finding out information about when/how to address people when they express disinterest, but what for and why?

  i went to field service group once and the young elder taking the group was wearing a hat and said the prayer with a hat on.

  i informed him later that you are not meant to have head covering, he said he was unaware of such things.

  Dumbass elders were among the main reason for me to start fading and leaving. Through my life as a JW I saw so many low IQ elders directing a congregation and making recommendations to people on life changing decisions! Not to mention all the crap I had to listen to them saying idiotic things and poor interpretations of facts.

  Some men are more intelligent than others, but regardless of training, there are men out there who are just not capable of any kind of leadership. They get recommended and sometimes pushed to be elders for the stupidest of reasons, not based on knowledge, intellect or leadership skills.
