All Donations Received @ KH During Annual Meeting Must Be Sent To The Branch

i just got word that in all congregations where the annual meeting is being streamed, any donations received that day, even if put in the box for the local hall must be sent to the branch immediately.. there will be an announcement made before the program starts for this arrangement.

so the extra electric needed that day, heat/ac that the congregation has to pay for does not matter.

all money donated that day has to go to the branch..

As I have said, I can't care less about any religious belief that promotes spending this life working on earning the next. That has never made sense to me at all.

Just Got Dubbed..

so there i was earlier today, enjoying a spot of lunch in a pleasant little cafe whilst out shopping, when up came a fella i vaguely recognised from the dim and distant past just as i was tucking into my highland soup with bread roll and butter..

"i would never ignore you you know".. "eh?

what" i ventured wondering wtf is this all about.

I got the boot at age 26 and now at 71 I'm supposed to be grateful that some dubby has acknowledged my existence.

Some JWs are more than obsessed with having the last word in everything. Even if it's 45 years after the fact.

Up date on what I decided to do about back surgery

it has been 4 1/2 weeks since i had back surgery.

i had l4and l5 fused, disk was suck out replaced with a artificial disk and a bracket or what they called a cage with 4 screws holding it all together.

i went in on a tuesday and was out of the hospital the next day.

U.K. NHS Attitude to Blood Transfusion and its Safety

while visiting someone at the local hospital i saw this leaflet " will i need a blood transfusion ?

- patient information" .

now i was raised in the belief that doctors are transfusion-happy and just give you one willy nilly if they operate , further that a trans.

You are on point. There have been quite a few advances in medicine, and the need for blood transfusions in patients has been considerably reduced.

In the medical field it's almost a non-issue. Please note that many of the advances and workarounds of administering blood transfusion come from the fact that blood banks never have the necessary amount of blood that once was required to supply for the demand. It has nothing to do with the WT influencing the medical field, which they love bragging about.

Grocery Store conversation with an elder

i'm inactive here to the local jw's as i have faded.

i've been slandered and all that, shunned by some but not all, but the elders basically leave me alone.

i still run into to people all over though.

My "inactive" status is really just a technicality that allows me to still openly speak with others. As a result.....I have been able to help some start their own journey out.

I think that's a great position to be in. That's what I did too. It's a good strategy for those who for some reason need/have to remain in touch or current on what they are up to. I remained inactive more because I don't think that they have a saying on it. Either way, I agree that it's a convenient way of staying in touch and you calling the shots.

Once again, thanks for sharing.

Meetings are boring

meetings are boring for young kids and old but i'm going to focus on young kids 5 or 8.. i think is unfair that young kids get punished for falling asleep or zoning out.. as meetings are not as boring but i have to go to school the next day and staying up till 10pm isn't the best i can't get out of going.. but think of the young kids that dont even understand most of the teachings.. i know most on the site are adults but i heard of adults falling asleep..

Not only are they boring as hell, but they are quite inappropriate for children too. Children don't need to hear about the adult subjects that they talk about, such as fornication, some symbolic prostitute having sex with a dragon, lakes of fire, rape and genocides.

we know that the hebrew scriptures, or old testament states that the practice of circumcision (of males) was supposed to be yet another sign that set the jews apart from the "people of the nations".

but apart from so many odd things, how dumb is this?.

i mean, how did someone know if a male was circumcised or not??

thats somthing i see thats asked in my kingdom hall if you want to go get more than 2 years in collage.thing in some one asking that to me or etc i cant say any thing or that would show that i dont believe.. i hate when some one askes me that when i try to plan ahead when it comes to what job i want.what job would help me hold my own but no god will give if you put him first.i dont believe in god even when i did i never buyed into that.. it seems you cant get away from the question im only 13 and i get that question theres no getting away from it..

Go to college anyway. They are not going to support you. After college, when you have a good job, keep them away from asking you for money.

Debating a Christian at work.

a christian at work has been after me for more than a year to go to his church and be saved.

i like the guy and consider him a friend and have been politely trying to avoid the subject.

i have recently decided that enough is enough and i told him i would discuss religion with him.

My two cents. That may or may not work. I think that you are preparing a lot, but may not be preparing the right information or approach.

What are you debating for? Do you want to convince him that he's wrong? Do you want to state your educated reasons why you don not believe? Do you want the debate to be an ongoing thing? What do you expect to happen at the end?

Then, before stating and giving anything you have, I'd start by listening to him first. I start with asking questions. Sometimes what you get is some kind of testimonial, some story about how wonderful their lives are after finding their god, etc. That information is important to you because that's what you should be addressing or at least acknowledging. If people hold on to nonsensical believes because they feel safe, or because their religion is what gave them peace of mind, or a safety net away from a lifestyle that they feel otherwise they couldn't change, there's no logic and information or teaching, or history, or documentation that would make them change their mind. To them it's not about education or information; it's about what the religion gives them.

Prepare to listen to what he has to say to understand what they actually believe and how he applies those believe to his life, along with why he's so convinced about his believes.
