Did you go to meetings even when it was dangerous to drive?
I thought I did growing up in Puerto Rico, but absolutely not, now that I know a little better about horrible weather.
living in new england means having lots of snow and cold.
elders were very reluctant to cancel or reschedule a meeting due to the weather.
i lived 3 towns away from the kingdom hall and if it was icy and treacherous my vote would always be to cancel the meeting....and forget about rescheduling!.

1972 : we started studying with the jehovah's witnesses when my uncle became an elder and put fear into our family that armageddon was close.
1974 : my mom, my brother and i were all baptized after all the convention talks and watchtower magazine articles that 1975 would likely end this system of things.
1999 : being told that the year 2000 was going to mark the 6 thousand years of mans existence and that the 1000 year kingdom in the new paradisewould come in the year 2000.
Well...It's 2018 and still no ''Armageddon''
Yep.
letter dated 1/1/2018.
i know they are trying to simplify but it all is such a confusing mess.... forms, dates, calculators, committees, logins, publisher record cards.....jesus would barf.
to all bodies of elders re: announcements and reminders dear brothers: in an effort to reduce the number of letters sent to all bodies of elders and congregations, most announcements from the branch office will now be conveyed to congregations by means of the announcements and reminders (s-147) form.
@Minimus, I am sort of with you, but I have learned that those things are in fact meaningful to others. They don't mean much to me, but they speak to others.
Brian J, thank you for your efforts.
back again!.
so as i'm still pimo and living under my parent's roof, how can i get out of service?
cause i really don't want to go and i feel dirty just knowing i could be influencing someone into this garbage..
...how can I get out of service? Cause I REALLY don't want to go and I feel dirty just knowing I could be influencing someone into this garbage.
That was an easy one for me since I didn't care about anything at the time. I lied to my bones. I reported hours I didn't do. I lied about how I did them.
I imagine that since they have watered down their standards, and since they have quite a whole lot of other things to worry about, keeping it discrete and to a minimum may help you. That is, if you are ok with lying. I was ok with lying back then. The WT taught me very well how to do that.
Welcome from New York City.
*new episode with a special announcement*.
so episode 5 of "shunned" is now up featuring caleb, a 19 year old ex-jw that was brave enough to take a stand for truth at just 18 years of age.
he's leaving for the army on january the 23rd so i tried to get this one out as soon as possible.
Thanks!
how about .... the international brotherhood of stupidity.. the righteous zombies club .
What could be other alternative names for the Jehovah's Witnesses ?
Assholes united.
i have lived in sedona arizona for over five years.
we own the largest wine tour company here and take out more people to the vineyards in this area then anyone less.

On my way!
the wts has been selling and promoting christ's return and the end times since the late 1800's, right through all of the 20th century and still continues today on the same core doctrinal premise.. 1914 was set as a year of christ taking position upon his heavenly throne followed by choosing the wts as his earthly guided organization in 1919 according to the wts.
leaders at that time.. the actual truth is that the wts is a publishing house and it was inherently pressed to make up doctrines which would gravitate attention to its published goods, accurate and honest bible interpretation was a second lesser concern.. the original heads of this religious publishing house (c t russell) first proclaimed that christ had returned in 1874 and 1914 was going to be the year jesus was going to cleanse the earth of all wickedness etc.
this was obviously a false doctrine tainted with ignorance and a bit of commercialization in reality.. so the question remains what will the wts do in the future, what will the wts do as far as doctrines to allure the general public at large ?
Will the Watchtower Corporation continue to lie and deceive just to sustain itself into the future ?
Yes.
this is my first post, i will introduce myself later.
first of all, i must say that english is not my mother tongue (i'm spanish), so excuse me if i make any mistake.. do you think that some people simply can't cope with being outside the jws?
some of them are too worldlyphobic to be around non-jws, too dependent on a fixed set of rules in order to carry on with their lives, too dependent on the hope of paradise and resurrection, too unable to leave their personal comfort zone within the organization.

Bienvenido al foro.
Not only I agree with you 100%, but professionals in the matter who have done research and dedicate their careers to study groups like the WT also agree.
I'm personally friends with people who help people who have lost loved ones to cults. Before intervening with the person, they make an entire assessment of their family, looking for the environment in which the person will come back to if he/she leaves the cult. Sometimes their recommendation has been that they are better off in the cult for several reasons:
There are many reasons why some people are better off being part of an organization that gives them structure that otherwise they wouldn't get (or they perceive that they wouldn't get).
I am very happy that I'm not one of those people.
