So, why do you think there is so much "change" in doctrine? About things like the "generation?" Why do you think there is a lack of acknowledgement about 1914 and the generation that saw it? Why do you think they talk so little about 1914 these days?

Three reasons:

Lame attempt at remaining relevant by coming up with "new light" nonsense so people still feel like they are getting something unique that no one else does
They got sued left and right over all kinds of things from copyright infringement to sexual abuse coverups
The way society is today doesn't help their model. People read a lot less magazines and go online, and people are a lot more aware about them, and people are more rude so they have a harder time buying into going house to house preaching.

I guess there's a 4th reason, which is that they are still as full of shit as they have always been, and they want to keep that status.

just thought i'd start a thread about this topic.. john carpenter's the thing (1982) was a great film, one of his best imo.

for me, it's right up there with alien (1979) as one of the greatest sci-fi horror films ever made.

and yet one film made anything between $100 - 200 million at the box office whereas the other made only $19 million.

I totally agree. Those are great movies.

Are you better off as a worldly person or a JW?

i was having a conversation with a relative who has been inactive for several decades (part of the ‘75 generation) and he argued that a person that is a born in is better off staying in the organization rather than someone like him who lived as a “worldly” person but then became a witness later in life.

he argues that when you’re born in, all you know nothing outside of the organization, so you’re better off in than out, that’s why when born ins leave the org, they always come back.

i agree that as a born in, your social circle is composed of witnesses but i do feel that even born ins would be happier outside of the org than being in.

What a load of crap. I am living proof of:

1. That's not true, don;t need to go over details of how much better my life became after I left

2. How they claim to know what people are supposed to be or bacome if they leave

3. How stupidly naive some JWs can be

My life as a born in JW was horrible. No question about it. My worst day as a worldly person is better than my nest day as a JW, and now I have quite a history to vouch for it.

Stating that is more stupid lame attempts at mistreating and controlling born ins. Top notch bullshit.

But they are missing the most important point: Nothing bad that happens to people outside the WT has anything to do with their Jehovah crap. Even if the life of a born in turns out horrible, if anything, they have responsibility for telling their loved one to shun them.

They are a bad organization, made of lower level literacy nobodies pretending to be somebodies. Whatever bad thing happens to people doesn't change that fact.

The right to record your judicial committee meeting

ok.. we have often heard secret recordings online of jc hearings.

but, what i would like to know is if individuals are entitled to the right of officially recording their judicial hearings?.

supposing i was to attend a judicial committee and i explained up front that i would like to record the proceedings and then place a dictaphone on the table.

I know that in my city is not legal to record the meeting without them knowing and consent. It may be different in other places, as it's a local city ordinance.

You can do whatever the law allows you. As much as they claim that they are above that, it's made up bullshit. Your rights don't disappear just because they say so.

Why do so many that leave wind up coming back?!

I have seen so many that have left. And their life turned into a dumpster fire. Most do not live the average life of living in suburbs, raising a family. And such. And then the organization uses such ones as examples of what happens when you leave Jehovah. Thoughts?

What some people don't seem to realize is that not only the WT brainwashes people to control their lives as JWs, but also convince them of what they claim awaits them if they leave. Some JWs, especially those who get disfellowshipped or leave abruptly for any other reasons, don't prepare themselves for their lives outside.

They don't limit their indoctrination to how their lives as JWs should be, they also teach that if you leave, you are supposed to be this, become that, or this will happen to you.

Furthermore, some people end up joining religious organizations and/or cults precisely because they lack the life skills to negotiate with their own lives, hence, expect their god to make things right for them and take care of them. When they find themselves without the cushion of religion, they don't know what to do with their own selves or their lives.

Not everybody can face the ugly things in life and have the skills to properly cope and have a sense of making it on their own.

You might not notice this, but the same applies to pretty much every organization that uses the Bible. That book can be used and interpreted in any way you want; you can use it to prove pretty much anything you want.
