"For whatever reason I will play the powerball or megamillions when it’s
over 500 million. It’s fun to dream with no real expectation."
Same. If I hear it's gotten huge and I happen to have some cash in my wallet, i'll buy a ticket or two on my way home from work. It's no bigger expense that getting a soda or bag of chips from the vending machine.
But I hate getting caught behind someone buying scratch cards.
"let me get a number twelve. And uhhhh, 3 of the number eight's. No, 2 number eight's and a number ten. and uhhh...uhhhh......uhhhh...and number fifteen. And let me cash in these from last week, I think I might have a few dollars won. Oh I got 10 dollars? OK, then let me also get a......" and on and on.
While the rest of the line in sigh'ing and growing angry because they just wanna pay for their soda or chewing gum and be on their way.

Are adjustable rate mortgages the norm in the UK?
by SydBarrett inperhaps an odd subject for a presumably religious focused discussion board, but there are a fair number of brits here... i'm an american, but i sometimes listen to the podcast of the james o'brien radio show.
(a brit political radio show where people call in).
the past few months, a common topic has been people calling in discussing how hard they are getting hit financially because of a dramatic rise in interest rates on their mortgage.

The past few months, a common topic has been people calling in discussing how hard they are getting hit financially because of a dramatic rise in interest rates on their mortgage. Here in the U.S, at least among everyone I know, a 15 or 30 year fixed rate mortgage is the norm.
Based on the callers, it seems like adjustable rate loans are the norm in Britain. Is fixed rate prohibitively difficult to get in the UK or am I just hearing selection bias because the fixed rate people aren't calling in because they have nothing to complain about? People in the US sometimes choose adjustable rates too, but its usually A.) a person with not so good credit taking what they can get, and they refinance to a fixed as soon as they qualify or B.) a gambler who feels certain that interest rates are gonna remain stable or possibly even drop.

Sign of the Last Days
by Fisherman inin the sermon on the mount, jesus foretold that earthquakes “in one place after another” would be part of the sign of the last days clímaxing in the great tribulation.. what could jesus possibly have meant?
using a phone app nowadays, there are earthquakes detected in one place after another but is this what jesus meant and did they have so many earthquakes throughout the centuries affter his prophecy or are these modern day detected earthquakes unique to this epoch?
how can we be sure unequivocally that modern day earthquakes are part of the sign fulfilling bible prophecy?.

"Here's one for you, Syd. Not bad for a 2,000 year old prophecy. It's one you can look out for.
11 Then I saw another beast coming up from the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but was speaking like a dragon.
13 He performed momentous signs, even making fire come down from heaven in front of people (Rev. 13:11, 13 NET)"
Why does God speak in hokey symbolism that could apply to all sorts of things throughout history if the readers imagination is wild enough??
If the writer had recorded the words "lockheed-martin" or "laser" 2000 years ago with no clue to their meaning, then i'd be impressed. -

These sort of discussions about "prophecy" remind me of being 10 years old and having serious discussions around the lunch table about whether the blasters in Star Wars were some sort of plasma weapon or were they ion cannons?
Really? Grown adults actually taking seriously the obvious nonsense that is "bible prophecy"?Allow me to prophecy. At some time in the next year there will be days where it rains. And days when it's sunny. It will also get cold for a while then get warm again. Also there will be reports of snow somewhere and reports of drought elsewhere..

Acts 15:29 - "keep abstaining from blood"
by aqwsed12345 infor a christian, only the moral commandments of the old testament are binding (as they cannot change), but the various liturgical, social, and other so-called casuistic laws no longer apply to them.
this includes dietary habits, such as the prohibition of pork or fat, as well as the prohibition of blood.. take a look at the following verses: mt 15:11, mk 7:15-19, acts 11:7-9, 1 tim 4:3-5.. the jehovah's witnesses say that, yes, but in the acts of the apostles (15) the consumption of blood, idol meat, and strangled animals is also prohibited, meaning the new testament still forbids it.
for catholics, the council of florence settled this issue, stating that this apostolic regulation was only a temporary measure to facilitate agreement between jews and gentiles in the early church.

For all we know she may have requested this as her last resting place.
Yes. Perhaps it was her desire to be planted on her ex husband's golf course.
I very much doubt her children would have allowed their mother's memory to be sullied by placing her somewhere she wouldn't have wanted to be.
The previous photo argues differently. -

"Not even to cut the grass? Or plant grass?"
Yes. For a "Billionaire" you just tell your assistants to tell their assistants to tell their assistants to hire a crew to do basic landscaping. It's a 10 second request. Pocket change. For someone you were once apparently intimate with. -
