  Help with part on service meeting.

  hello all i have the part in the yearbook and cannot find anything on the "smear campaign" and "media attack" on the witnesses in norway.

  any ideas?

  i have googled all kinds of inquiries and came up with nothin..

  Mid and late '80s. Ex-JWs appeared on national television saying they had been df'ed for not having beaten their children enough. Newspapers and periodicals followed up. Children of JWs were beaten and ridiculed at school by others because of this, grown-ups had tough time at work etc. A few JWs were beaten up in service. Meetings were held between branch and authorities and it eventually died out. But it took years before magazine circulation reached previous amount. Studies dropped out, meeting attendance decreased.

  i wonder whether any of you took note of the article in the 12/15 study edition wt "the simplified watchtower .. why introduced" i couldn't believe they actually had the temerity to put such tripe into print and onto the record.. i was flat-out astonished with its put-down of vocabulary building and self-improvement:.

  one egregious example: " the time spent looking up words and explaining expressions (ostensibly from the "smart people's" watchtower) is now spent gaining an understanding of the scriptures and how they fit into the lesson.".

  one jw cited in the article actually blames her college education for causing her to fall into the bad habit of "speaking and thinking a way that was more complicated than necessary.

  Being something as strange as a University-educated JW, this is one aspect I dislike - quite simply. I think one should strive for good education. People are different, and some - like myself - get satisfaction and a meaningful work life from following one's interest. Put me in the forest, and I'd die within days. Tell me to fix my car, and the only way I could do it would do to call someone, and then pay. People are different, we cannot all clean each others' windows and cut each others' hair .....................

  Australia formally charges former JW elder

  former jehovah's elder on sex assault charge .

  a former jehovah's witness elder who apologised to his alleged victim on facebook has been charged with two counts of indecent assault.

  richard hill will appear in the heidelberg magistrate's court on march 1 over allegations that he sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl in 1981.. the victim, now 38, told fairfax media that mr hill did everything except penetrate her - ''he tried, but couldn't manage''.. she said she ''did not realise the gravity'' of what had happened until she was about 14.. at that point she told her mother, who could not act because of a jehovah's witness rule that allegations of sexual abuse would only be acted on if two elders witnessed it, she said.. much later, the victim confronted mr hill on facebook.

  Nothing new. A couple of years ago, a similar talk was given here, and it is all about how to prepare for possible nature catastrophes. In some areas, these are far more frequent than in others, and while it might seem "strange" to discuss it in an area where 'nothing has happened in a thousand years', then those living in earthquake or flooding or hurricane areas - just might find some pieces of sound advise in the points given.

  Unbelievable Assertion!!!!!!!

  we had our special assembly day this weekend.. what the district overseer stated in his talk totally stunned me, and made me feel sick to my stomach.

  he said, "christ is directing us through the governing body, and we cannot get holy spirit except through them!".

  i do not wish to reveal all my thoughts on his statement, but i pray to god that it acts as a wake-up call to at least some of the audience.. suffice to say that the gb is now the mediator to our mediator, and from now on, i will have to pray for holy spirit through the name of the gb!!.

  Is that something new? One of the baptismal questions state you are becoming a member of God's spirit-led organisation. It is there you can get the spirit, and since the GB = the servant, it must be thru them. 1 + 2 = 3. But I did not hear that said at our Day.

  Discussion with family member who is an Elder in our congregation

  so about a week ago, i showed my cousin & her husband [an elder in our congregation] the picture on pg 29 of our 4/15/2013 study wt and asked, "if jesus is head of the congregation then where is he?".

  after several minutes of searching, dead silence.. i then asked if they had heard the part on the 2012 summer district conv the part about "our spiritual mother, where the c.o said that "the bible by itself does not shine thru as life-giving truths just by itself.

  " they were shocked and said that i must have misheard it because that would be apostasy.

  was actually looking into this and so did a search to see what was already talked about, found the below quote on another thread after finding it on the cd for myself...stunning to me as i still thought of neanderthal man as a hairy monkey man or a complete fabrication, and here is what appears to be a twist from the wt that i never realized all my years in.. what i found most interesting was the bolded section (by me).

  But they were merely quoting, they were not themselves stating that Man and Nean had common ancestry. They were just trying to state that Nean was modern, and therefore a variation of man such as pygmees and inuits are different.

  my sister in law has been shunned by the family since she da'd herself at the age of 18 and moved out of the house.

  i always insisted that my wife keep in contact with her and made sure she knew she had a soft place to land,with us, should she need it.

  even at the risk of it getting us in hot water with the pioneer,elder,bethelite family members there was no way we were going to let her disappear into the wild blue yonder on her own.

  I don't quite see why this is such a revelation or sort of secret mystery to so many - long articles were written about this in wt and ga in the 30s and 40s, and a whole special number of one of the mags deals with the "plot" to stop the Judge from being buried there. It should be very easy for everyone slightly interested in the wt history to find it, I simply don't get it why so many seem to think this is some sort of secret finally made public thru this and other sites. 30 seconds of googlin' and there it is for everyone to see.

  Rumor of new light on the headquarters of the WT

  i read in a forum in spanish that there is a strong rumor spreading in the corridors of the wt.

  has anyone heard anything about this??

  the change that is emerging is this: the great crowd has not yet appeared, and it is a group that comes out of the great tribulation.

  Not a "new light". It has from time to time been stressed that the GC are the ones saved, and so those now professing to have an earthly hope are OS - and as such hoping to become GC saved ones. Nothin' new, just pickin' at words.
