How to shake up Jdubs...
by Rather Be the Hammer ini didn't attend the meeting last night, but my in husband came home and was quite shocked because there was a letter announcing that there will be no wt-library cd-rom any more, and..... no more calendar.. he said there was a lot of talking and noise when that was announced.. i didn't expect the calender to go, by the way.
and my husband sounded really concerned, talking about how society is cutting down.
i love it when he says with a tone of surprise in his voice: 'you were right, now they want us to do everyting digital, and throw out the printed stuff.

"According to thier last report the jws are loosing 250k per year that's a lot of People"
I think you must have done some serious misreading of the YB. The number is increasing.

You wear tight pants and you will be in trouble
by wannaexit ini was reading in another forum, that a letter to the elders instructed them to speak to anybody who persists in wearing tight pants.
if changes don't happen then the instructions are to disqualify him from being a publisher but it won't be announced to the congregation.
i am am curious to see if this letter will surface.

"to disqualify him from being a publisher"
That was strange. It was always stressed that being a publisher is required, is a right, that as a JW you both have the right to and the obligation to preach. I remember it stated at a JC that we had absolutely no right to deny a person the right to preach. He could be told to better preach in a specific area or to avoid an area because of Things that had happened - but not to stop preaching. The only way to stop a person from preaching is to df him.
If you are disqualified from preaching - you by definition is no JW. Strange.

Did The Witnesses Predict the United Nations in Advance?
by TD init's been reported on this forum that bethel speakers at this summer's conventions are asserting that the establishment of the united nations in 1945 was predicted in advance by the witnesses.
this is being presented as validation of the claim that the witnesses are god's one true organization directed by holy spirit.. .
the basis for this claim originates with a public address entitled, peace - can it last given by n.h. knorr at the new world theocratic assembly, on september 20 of 1942. .

Leolaia, you stated - and I do not oppose you - that "Then it would declare "Peace and safety!", the war is now over, but almost as quickly as the postwar period starts, the democratic powers discover that the Vatican is really running the show and they take action against the Pope and the Vatican, destroying the institution altogether. Then almost instantly, all the governments of the world undergo destruction themselves and billions of people are killed directly by God."
OK. Additionally, I have spoken with oldtimers who remembered that they spoke about the "remaining months" etc. BUT: At the same time, 1942, Gilead was started, the first class graduated, and these first classes were big and so they really prepared for a huge - and lasting - preaching work to be carried out in the years that would follow the end of WWII.
I have a feeling these articles on the Axis Powers, the Vatican etc. were "left overs" from the Rutherford era. He clearly saw the Vatican as the evil power behind Hitler and the Axis Powers. With Knorr and his first book, "The New World", in my eyes the JW teachings became "modern" and recognisable, became what they also thru later decades remained as. But there seems to have been an interregnum period, where the old Rutherford rhetorics continued ("any day now") but where also the Knorr pragmatism began ("a great work ahead").

Jehovahs witnesses investing in stocks involving pornography, alcohol distribution and military war weapons??
by Ghiagirl inwhy is this the first time i have come across this?
my husband showed me a video about how the jws invest in stock like cinemax, disney, companies producing war weapons, alcohol and much much more.
if this is true, there are tax records to show for it right?
-
TheOldHippie
WT does not invest. But people may have long-term investments made for example from before they became JWs and then the WT has inherited these stocks upon their death, and as far as I have understood it, US laws in certain respects are such that one cannot "get out" of the ownership. There are some very technical discussions here that seem alein to us non-US ones, but that at least is how I have been able to understand it. -

Steve2, I think you might be mixing Romania and Ukraine together. In Romania you have a major splinter group (Rutherfordian-Early Knorrian group). What happened in Ukraine? Russian occupation happened. On the Crimea, there were many JWs, and they now find themselves in a twilight country.
And many seem to forget one thing when commenting on declining number of JWs in specific countries: There is a HUGE migration from Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Lithuania, Ukraine etc. etc. to all of the Western European countries. So it does not make sense in the way it did earlier to look at the Yearbook to find out how it is in JW land in a country as Poland. Population size is declining in some of these countires, people leave for other countries, and that is reflected in the number of JWs. In some of the Western European countries, up towards 7-8-9 % of the JWs are Polish, come from Poland. Of course there is therefore a decline or at least no growth in Poland itself. And the same goes for Lithuania, Ukraine etc.
If one should find out how it is "really" going these days, one would have to add the number of JWs in for example Polish-speaking congregations in Germany etc. to the number of JWs in Poland itself.

UKIP giving doorstep campaigns a bad name, insist Jehovah’s Witnesses
by cofty injehovah’s witnesses have today claimed that the concept of knocking on someone’s door and talking them into believing in the same crazy things as you could disappear thanks to right-wing bullshit....
-
TheOldHippie
Was this supposedly said by a JW? - Or is it a British humour I have not understood?
Jehovah’s Witness Simon Williams told us, “For years people have just about tolerated us knocking on their door to talk to them about Jesus, blood transfusions, and where black people come from – but now folks are just too afraid of the doorbell.
“Who wants to open their door when there is a strong possibility you’ll be subjected to a load of bullshit from a right-wing moron who believes that your morning commute takes too long because of immigrants?
“At least when we are at your door we have some nice fairy stories to tell you about heaven and stuff – I mean, who wants to hear about millions of Turkish terrorists swimming the Channel to reach our shores?”

JWTV May Broadcast is up. hosted by an old burnt hot dog
by Dreamerdude inwhat's up with jw parents taking their minor children to such desolate places?
like the english family that took their little kids to the jungles of ecuador, and the australians that took their little ones to norfolk island where hardly anyone lives, and they are the only children in a congregation of 11 publishers?
is this a new form of child abuse?

Why did Jehovah want to kill Moses?
by Doug Mason inon the way, at a place where they spent the night, the lord met him and tried to kill him.
but zipporah took a flint and cut off her son's foreskin, and touched moses' feet with it, and said, "truly you are a bridegroom of blood to me!
it was then she said, "a bridegroom of blood by circumcision.

Not quite ignored, it is quoted in Insight, saying
Scholars have offered many interpretations of this passage, some of these being incorporated into modern Bible translations. (See CC, JB, Kx, La, NE, RS, as well as the German Zürcher Bibel, the Spanish Bover-Cantera and the French Crampon, Lienart, and Segond versions.) Such interpretations attempt to settle questions as to whether it was Moses’ or the child’s life that was threatened, whether Zipporah touched the feet of Moses or the feet of the child or the feet of the angel with the foreskin. They also venture opinions as to why Zipporah said (and to whom she said), “You are a bridegroom of blood to me.”
It seems that it was the child’s life that was in danger in view of what the law of circumcision states at Genesis 17:14; that Zipporah circumcised the child because she realized what was needed to set matters right; that she cast the foreskin at the feet of the angel who was threatening the child’s life to demonstrate her compliance with Jehovah’s law; that Zipporah addressed Jehovah through his representative angel when she exclaimed, “You are a bridegroom of blood to me,” doing so to show her acceptance of a wifely position in the circumcision covenant with Jehovah as the husband.—See Jer 31:32.
But there is no way of Scripturally settling such questions with certainty. The literal reading of the ancient Hebrew in this passage is veiled in the idioms used nearly 3,500 years ago. This is why literal translations (NW, Ro, Yg) and others (AS, KJ, Da, Dy, JP, Mo, Le), including the ancient Greek Septuagint, are not clear on these matters.
