Once in Nov 1973 and then again in 1980 sometime.
i thought it might be interesting to see how many here remember where and when they were baptised into the borg.
for some the memory may be too painful, but i'm curious.. me.
it was 1966 in vancouver, bc.

what are the most stupid jw rule?.
what do you consider to be the most stupid rules or tradition of the jw lives?
im thinking about any kind of rule or regulative that only has one answer to the questions why:.
I believe the word Bull refered to an edict handed down by the church (as in papal Bull -yep that's what the dictionary basically says). It was something that basically could never be challenged. Ya' know the infallablity of something.
And we all know how the society doesn't force anyone...
also, i think it had conotations of the the word BULLshit whose word origin I think actually came as a result of people regarding the papel Bull as shit or shite.
Gee, if I keep reading these posts I'll "...have the equivalent of a 4-year education." Where have I heard that before, oh yeah the BULLetin board!!! (actually the AWAKE! or WT). :)
this past weekend, one of the few remaining jw relatives who will still discuss jw stuff with me told me about his recently attending a home bible study being conducted by an elder.
evidently, the study had been told or had picked up some info about the 1975 fiasco.
the elder totally denied that the society had stated or even led people to believe that armageddon would occur in 1975, and he naturally blamed some individual jws for misinterpreting the society's materials.
Even back then I realized that if people were "intelligent" enough to do the math to calculate when Eve was created and then the 6th ended. Adam had plenty of work to do and at that time couldn't be bothered, blah, blah blah.
Then most certainly the angels (whose intelligence are infinitely higher than ours) who witnessed all these events could certainly easily calculate when the GT or Arm would hit. Yet the bible says, "Neither the angels in heaven or the son of man knows the day or the hour." (I feel that they may/must know now, most certainly Jesus does).
I have a question, if 1975, 1984, or Y2K didn't bring the end, then do any who post here really believe the/an end will come? At least the bible is clear that it will come, right?
I have to only assume that there were children at the time of Noah's flood. We know according to the Bible that Noah and his immediate family were the only survivors of the human race. Children must have died, there's no two ways about it. It was the parents responsiblity to act, they didn't. Their own children's blood were upon thier heads.
I remember the pictures in the Paradise Lost book of little children falling into cracks in the earth (It scared me "straight" no doubt that was the intent) but I would really rather have a friend who didn't sugar coat everything and distract me from what is inevitable. (Better the slaps of a friend than the consoling words of an enemy).
Perplexed and wondering
Also, I have a friend who was personal buds with Freddie-the-Franz (yaba-daba-don't). He told me about a personel discussion he had with him. Fred theorized that Satan Got Eve at her weakest moment, when she was having her period. He further stated that he figures all this happened, I believe, all within a period of a few weeks of her creation. I said, "if Eve was perfect, then how could she be weak or not be about here wits?" He looked at me in disbelief -True story.
Satan slyed his way in and basically said, "hey, babe take a walk on the wild side."
Funny how they can speculate but when we do it borders on apostacy
happy monday!.
had no price tag.
much to her embarrassment the cashier got on the intercom and boomed out for the entire store to hear: "price check on lane thirteen, tampax, supersize.
Who is the most popular Guy at a nudist colony?
The one who can carry 2 cups of coffee and a dozen donuts!
bata-boom bata-bing
Who is the most popular Gal at a nudist colony?
The one who can eat the last 2 donuts!

Please save your applause!

find an original printing (?1966?), small bound "Life Everlasting in the Freedom of the Sons of God" book. Printed on the very thin NWT paper (I don't remember if it is in the full sized ed). In there you will find a table that lists 1975 as the end of mans 6000 years on earth and that 2975 would be the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ. To me it appears to be a bit more than just a suggestion.
Also, the whole Adam and Eve thing that was saying, "well Eve could have been conceivably created so many years later so we would need to add this to that, blah, blah, blah. to get the REAL end of 6000 years." -A clear indication that their thinking hadn't changed on setting dates.
Also, look at the March 1980 WT. Where the society came as close as they possibly would ever get to admitting only partial fault in the whole 1975 debacle.

I got one. My father was giving the Announcements at the top of the Service Meeting (early 1970's), and he said, "If you want to find out more information go back and look at the BULLetin board." They corrected him later and mentioned that it is an information board. This was mainly by the main elder(PO) of the cong (I forget the official title then, they change them so often to test "whose-in-whose-out"). The guy was miffed at my Dad because, he wouldn't go to the PO's house and work on his house for a greatly reduced rate, because "we're brothers."
My father swears that the bulletin board incident kept him from getting another service meeting part for about 2 years. -no kidding
no matter what i do i just can't seem to get disfellowshiped.
i havn't been to a meeting since 1994 and have been caught many times smoking, drinking, doing drugs (silly i know) , fornicating (lesbian threesome with 2 jw girls and my lucky self), swearing and sharing my outspoken apostacy with any jw that dares listen.
it's not like the elders are slack.
I've always understood if you want out and you are doing all those things, then just attend a meeting, next thing you know your name will be announced. Years ago that's all someone had to do.
Why not just disassociate yourself?

Here's one, I won't go into detail but I think many of you will understand this. Just stop and think about it because it has many levels. I fit it in a group I call cyclical reasoning. Once you think you have it, it comes back around for another attack.
1. If you believe in something they teach. -you're fine
2. If you don't believe like 1 does. -you're apostate
3. If 1 refuses to change in response to a new teaching. - now apostate
4. However, if 1 now believes what 2 did and the new teaching is also what 2 believed in all along when labeled an apostate -your're fine, for now...
5. 2 does not get reinstated for what 1 in 4 now believes to be true and is fine - Crazy
6. So 2 was labeled apostate for believing in something that was true all along and for which 1 one was technically an apostate, but was fine.
Reminds me of how they determined a person was a witch in Monty Python's, In Search of the Holy Grail.
If she floated she was a witch, wood floats and burns, so lets burn her. If she sank and drowned she wasn't a witch and was telling the truth all along, but hey she's dead now...
have any out there read the books 1984 and animal farm?
also have any watched the movies of the same same?.
or do those two stories strike a very familiar bell?
I believe I have the Orwellian World book, buried somewhere in my library, and read it many years ago. Want to read it again.
I also have both books by Ray Franz. Crisis of Conscience and, I believe the title is, In Search of Christian Freedom (reading this one on/off, right now) all from amazon.com. He is not completely full of himself, but then I don't think he is being entirely honest either.
I am still a JW (inactive, according to them), have been all my life. Consciously aware of and believing their teachings for 32+ years. Doubting many things for the last 2 years. I'm 42.
I still feel very deeply about the truth in the BIBLE and talk about it to co-workers, when asked what I believe on certain topics. I believe the bible, it's the witnesses that I doubt and/or challenge.
I have had several Elders come to my house, I have recommended to them that they should read/watch those two by Orwell. See if they see any striking similarities.
My brother-in-law was just visiting me and my family last week. He's a Bethelite elder (read that aloud with a Megaphone). Please bow. Everything he parrots is right and everthing I've studied is wrong. We all know what that means in the echelons of the witnesses.
I challenged him on teachings the witnesses believe and his reply was, "No one is forcing you to believe these things, they aren't threatening to kick you out if you don't. There's not a gun to your head."
Apparently he wants to remain oblivious to the fact what every witness knows, either consciously or subconsciously, that if you want to start challenging them on the quality and veracity of their teachings, you stand to lose just about everything. And that is an overwhelming thought for anyone to swallow.
