  If thr President's spokesman REALLY screwed up he'd be fired! The WTS was fired long ago. WT and Awake articles come mostly from old articles. New light is accomplished by a 2/3 vote. Read Ray Franz books, he was there after all.

  q 1: where does the bible say god's name is jehovah.. q 2: what's an apostate.

  q 3: what is the "evil slave vs good slave" i read this ealier sounds more like a movie in hollywood.. q 4: why would any one want to be a slave.

  q 5: why not give a child blood to save their lives.

  Danni,
  I see that I'm too late. All your questions have been answered already! If you think these questions have some weird answers (from a JW point of view) wait till you get to these:
  How long was a "creation day"?
  What is wrong with "independent thinking"?
  Who was the "slave" before Russell?
  If Jesus and God can't be the same person, then how can Jesus and Michael be the same?

  Keep asking questions, it means you're still free.

  Hi Danni,
  Welcome.
  Here's my view of JW's. They are mostly like other people. The bad parts of the religion are this: 1) No independent thinking; JW's are told NOT to think for themselves, just accept whatever the WT says. 2) Isolation; don't associate with anyone not a witness (This is why your friend is afraid to take you to his KH. 3) Shunning of all former members.
  These three things are what cause people to call them a cult.

  Just as with any religion, there are JW's who are active and still break the rules. The difference is JW's have to be much more secretive to get away with it.

  Question.--If the I.B.S.A. (international bible students assoc.) headquarters should promulgate methods not understood or approved by us are we to apply Rev. 18:4, "Come out of her, My people," and if so, how?

  Answer.--I think if the I.B.S.A. can be shown to be a section of Babylon, we all ought to get out of it.

  The word "Babylon" signifies, "confusion," and in Revelation 18:4, it is used in reference to mixing the things of God and of men.

  There would be nothing to come out of, as an organization, if one is an International Bible Student. You cannot get out of anything you have not gone into. If any one can tell me how he got into Babylon by getting interested in the affairs of the WATCH TOWER BIBLE AND TRACT SOCIETY, let him show me how he will jump out, and I will jump with him.

  Disassociating==shunning...yes or no???

  i have had several here tell me that if try to disassociate yourself from the org that you will be subject to shunning.

  is this true?.

  i discussed this issue with the witnesses with whom i study.

  does anyone know when the practice of disfellowshipping by the jws started?

  i doubt that it was done from the very beginning.

  i was asked that question this morning and it is not something i have ever thought about before.. target

  The first DF I have found was listed in the zion's WT July 1887.
  "DISCIPLINE IN THE CHURCH"

  "Discipline includes not only the dealing with offenders, but it includes the entire process of education by instruction, exercise, correction and punishment; and in cases where these methods fail and meet with defiant opposition from those who still claim to be members of the church, and associate themselves with it, it includes the cutting off of such members from the church."

  "While it is the duty of the stronger members of the body of Christ to protect the weaker, in every way possible against these baneful influences, it is their duty to bind the offenders and cast them out--in other words, to disfellowship them --to show up their true standing, and thus bind them hand and foot by putting others on their guard, thus restraining their influence upon the church."

  It's signed "Mrs. C.T.R."

  No names are mentioned, but the timing indicates that Russell split with Nelson H. Barbour at this time in WT history over religious differences.

  In 1952, DF was also instituted for other sins.

  Thank you for posting something different for a change. Glad it's not right out of the WT or awake! I especially liked this part:

  you cannot be partaking of the table of jehovah and the table of demons.1 corinthians 10:21.. these inspired words of the apostle paul show that two figurative tables are set before mankind.

  each table is identified by the kind of symbolic food placed upon it, and all of us are eating at one or the other.
