Gadget,
I have been to one of the local Kingdom Halls, the one that was replaced by the one you helped build. That one was an old Wesleyan Chapel.
You know what I mean?

you know, i never had a clue why people did this.
it's not like kingdom halls in different cities look different.
they just have a different shape, a different shaped yard, trees in different locations, and some had that car stop thingy which stopped you from getting wet.

It dawned on me recently that most new Kingdom Halls look like funeral homes. What does that say for them?

what i mean is according to the society, there are a number of persons that are "technically" "inactive" yet are viewed as jws still.
i'm sure that i'm viewed as a witness still because i am not df'd or disassociated.....what about you??
?
I'm haven't been counted for nearly 7 years. I was inactive for 6 months prior and irregular for 2 years before that. Current status - unknown. To my knowledge I haven't been DF'd and I haven't formally DA'd but by my actions I could be regarded as DA'd. At least all my siblings, including the JW ones have been in contact recently. The whole family, minus JW parents will be together in one spot in a few weeks. I haven't seen some brothers for nearly 10 years.

i found it the most upbuilding, faith-strengthening book i have ever read.
particularly coming from the judgmental wt system, it was like a comforting refreshing stream in which to bathe.
i know that many on this board no longer believe in god or the bible.
Yes,
I have read Amazing Grace and found it to be an excellent book. It opened my eyes to what grace is all about and I couldn't help but contrast the judgemental attitude I had as a JW. I am currently reading Yancey's Rumors of Another World, quite interesting for an oftentime sceptic like me.

often, i speak to people who seem to have good jobs.
when i ask how they got that job, then they tell me that finally it came down to good contacts.. many jobs i had were also because of good contacts.
naturally, having a college or university degree is what it takes, but having contacts seems to be what opens doors.. so, how did you find your job, with help from an influencial person, or all by yourself?
The last job I obtained the normal way with a résumé etc was in 1983. I worked at that company for 8 years and hated it, although I prospered. I applied for over 100 jobs without success. Finally, I asked someone I knew about a job at his company and I got interviewed and hired. Similarly, I changed again and retrained. I then took an inter-company transfer to the US and started working as a consultant. In the late 90s I had plenty of companies asking to recruit me and in 2000 I accepted an offer with my present employer.
The IT and .com-boom bust and offers dried up and I am glad to have my present job. At least in the past 3 months I have had one head-hunter call me but the job market in my line of work has still not picked up.

Wed,
I was saddened to learn of Alistair Cooke's death earlier this year. Having grown up on the other side of the "pond" I knew him for many years through his "letters." Amazon is a great resource as is us.imdb.com (Internet Movie Database) which is great for searching for old films and TV programs. The links are to Amazon but don't forget to search the Canadian version www.amazon.ca for titles that are rare and sometimes cheaper.

from my observation of walking away from the org eight years ago..it seems..that most xjw's are either fundamental protestants...or on left side as athiests.....so, i was wondering, any xjws here who's christianity is now progressive (non-fundamentalists) in nature?
Apparently, after taking a test, I should be a Liberal Quaker.
I attend services with a non-fundy Christian church mostly and I haven't joined the "Friends" yet.

if you're a dunderhead on neo-babylonian history (like me) you've probably remained totally clueless whenever the subject of the chronology leading to back 607 b.c.
since i had nothing better to do today, i decided to finally take the time it takes to understand why dub chronology on that date is wrong.
this piece of information alone should give you a clue about how bored i am!.
I wanted to post on this thread but it seems to have gotten hijacked by those who miss the point (or can't read plain English) and want to argue their own cause or that of their cult master. I thought Farkel's term for our one poster friend was "Bible twit!" He must be getting mellow after all this time.
