i know tons of dubs (ex dubs) that love star trek because it's one of the only interesting shows that they are allowed to watch.. anyway, did you watch the first episode tonight?
i'm pretty sure with the one scene, that the dubs will be reproving some for masterbation tomorrow night.. oh and what's your favorite kingdumb song?
Me and Mrs. Thirdson watched tonight with dinner in front of the TV (normally a big no-no).
I thought it was great, but I am a biased Trek fan. However, I do like the premise of the Vulcans holding humans back from star trekking.

We (S & I) always joke about the hot alien sex, but as an alien myself perhaps I shouldn't go there.

Apparently, this is what agents did in the FBI when Hoover was in charge. An agent would talk to his boss about a post in a certain town. The boss would talk to Hoover and tell him this agent is doing a bad job and hates a certain town. Hoover would have the agent transferred to this town as punishment.

All this playing around with numbers is stupid.
Of course it is. You can string numbers together to make anything you like. Read any WTS prophecy interpretation book and you'll see plenty of mathematical and mental gymnastics used to get Biblical numbers to mean year numbers of the Gregorian calendar. Not that they are alone in this. Look at the "end time" prediction books in the relgion section of a good book store and you will find the same.

Sorry... but nothing in that quote implies to me that the "sabbath" day is 7000 years old. It merely states it had started some 4,000 years earlier and will end after the 1000 year reign.
True, but it is there by implication and JWs are used to the 7000 year creative day idea and they like round numbers. According to their doctrine the sixth day did not end until the creation of Eve. It is not known how long after Adam, Eve was supposed to have been formed from a rib (Chromosomal additions not explained) so the 6000 years of the seventh creation day may not have elapsed.
While the creative day may be 8000 years long the number 8 doesn't have the holiness factor of 7. And while a creative day may be 7123 years long it doesn't tie in with round numbers like 144,000. If it were a number that could be produced by multiples of 7 that would be OK too. Therefore, one could suggest that:
Holy, holy, holy is Jehovah = 3 x a Jubilee, 49 (7x7) of jubilees is:
3 x 49 x 49 = 7,203 years.
Hence the millenium will begin 6,203 years after the creation of Eve or sometime afte 2178 AD. This means there is plenty of time left to do more preaching.

I wonder, if given the choice how many "haters" of America would jump at the chance to move to America. Millions of people want to move here and 100's of thousands become US citizens each year. In one survey I read 25% of Canadians polled would actually like Canadian provinces to become states of the US.
Sure there are lots of things wrong with America and GWB is not the brightest of presidents but the guy who failed to get the popular vote is doing a pretty good job now according to the vast majority of Americans.
As a foreign national and resident alien, I love America, I choose to live there, I'm staying there and I will be naturalized eventually.

Now that is a great quote and very good insight.
What I found interesting is that when I cut n' pasted the Watchtower article to Word the word "worldling" immediately showed up with a red underline. I wonder where they got the word from or is it another WTS created word. ("Worldling" is listed in the Scrabble dictionary so I guess it's legitimate.) I suppose the idea is derived from "earthling". "Earthling man" seems to be a WTS/NWT expression as well when other Bibles simply say "man".
In all of this, the WTS use of words varies from everyday speach. Afterall, to be "worldly" or a "man of the world" means different things to JWs and, dare I say, worldly people.

In later years they changed to the term "worldly persons". However, so I understand, quite recently they have stated that terms such as "worldly" are not to be used.
While the term may have been removed from more recent WTS publications you can bet that ordinary congregation members still use the terms. Afterall, my dad still says "back calls" for "return visits" and "circuit servant" instead of "overseer".
