Good for you!! It took me until I was 37 to make the final cut and severe all ties. It can be difficult and family ties and friends can make it very difficult to leave. On top of that is experiencing a whole new world and meeting new people and friends.
I am glad you are out but you are by no means alone. Half the people here were raised as JWs.

I like this holiday!
As an immigrant, only in the past 10 years have I come to appreciate the specialness of this time for families to get together. It exists without the pressure of the gift giving of Christmas. It is a time to be together and to give thanks for who we are and what we have.
We are heading north Wednesday after to work, (a 3 1/2 hour drive) to Mrs Thirdson?s family?s lake home. It will be a very relaxing, good eating, drinking, and socializing time. (Pager and cell phone doesn't work in the area either)
I hope everyone has a happy time this holiday.

in a recent thread someone said that bagpuss was a good name but didn't know what it meant.. bagpuss was a character from a childrens programme in the 1970s and is becoming popular again now.
i chose this name as like bagpuss i am soft,cuddlyand loyal, but will get the claws out when needed.. why did you choose your 'alias' and what does it tell me about you?

I liked Bagpuss even though I was too old for such things. On vacation in England this summer my son bought his girlfriend a Bagpuss toy. It's sort of unusual, at least around here.
As for me, I have two older brothers.

Since they are sensitive about being a cult and have to defend their cult status, it seems it shows they are a cult.

When I worked as a field engineer we preferred Makita tools. Even now I own Makita tools for home use. I've always treated the B&D stuff as cheap products only suitable for occasional home use. I seem to remember we only referred to that particular brand as Slack & Wrecker.

I am originally from your area. I attended a hall near the center of Brum until I was 10 years old. I have been to Villa Park several times but only on a couple of occasions did I see a ball kicked there. I used to commute across town for a long time and worked near Aston. We used to use the restaurant at Villa when we had important customers.
Sorry, not my favorite city, have spent most of life moving further and further away.

a few weeks ago the thirdson family visited the ?old country?
to attend a family wedding and spend time on vacation.
for the past 7 years and since i faded away, i have had a strained relationship with some of my family.

I think the alcohol consumption was just the cultural norm. I had to caution my 16 year old son and tell him to take it easy. It was a private function so it was OK for him to drink a little. As for me, I would have drunk a lot more were it not for driving. I didn't want to impair my ability, driving a stick, on the wrong side of the road, at night, on country lanes barely wide enough for two cars and not being familiar with the area.

S had a good time and she looked forward to good old fish n' chips. We did eat several curries. I took it easy and had a medium hot dish and found it to be hotter than the hotest dishes I have tasted in Minnesota even when I have asked for the dish to be prepared Indian hot, (as opposed to the mild mid-Western version of hot food).
On the family side, my Mom and Dad are better and more accepting of me now. In fact the whole experience was better than I thought it would be. I met a few more exJWs as well. It is heartening to see old friends getting out.
