  The 1975 Generation---are they still around?

  i was raised as a jw and 1975 expectations were pretty intense.

  as i recall, most people did not leave after the failed expectations but many s l o w e d down.

  now, i think most of the 1975 witnesses are gone or barely in.. is the older generation still around in the kingdom halls or are they much gone?.

  My first husband (we got married very young, dub ways, ya know) and I often liked to bring up "Stay alive for 75" to his father...who was then anointed and was baptized in the late 60s/early70s. His dad made up a lot of excuses for the WT like, "It wasn't the Society that started that, over zealous members did." Mmhmmm.

  He and his wife are still around, but I think that there are more doubts and disappointments in their heads than they'd like to admit or show. About a year and a half ago, my ex and his new wife were killed in a very, very bad car accident. A 19yo drunk driver hit them head on going south in the north bound lanes of Hwy 19s running from the cops. The father later came out that he was not anointed after all...but his reasoning for that I haven't heard.

  It's sad. Like this man, who had a successful military career going, so many gave up their lives for this "religion" that has done nothing but drag them through the mud. I don't see why after 40 years, and a multitude of doctrine flip flops, anyone would stay. I guess everyone wants something to believe in.

  It's really an awkward and inappropriate situation for everyone when it happens, too. I can only imagine the torment that teenager went through from his peers when he got down from the stage. He'll never live it down! No one is going to think of him as a martyr for teenagers against porn, but they're gonna see him as a complete idiot, a "goodie goodie", and he'll never escape the stigma. I feel badly for him. Shame on his parents for allowing this.

  This thread was such a bummer! I was hoping that they accidentally played porn on the big screen at the convention.

  I'm glad I'm not the only one. lololol

  Also, I'm pretty sure that "accidental" porn viewings have been prevented by more "worldly" parents than dubs by using parental controls and such. Soooo, like everyone else has said, there was no "accident" to this educational experience. Good grief.
  
  And btw, whyyyy would anyone let a youngin talk about this kind of stuff in front of other youngins? There were hundreds of kids there too little to understand what it is...oooh boy. I bet there were a bunch of pissed off parents after that part. Now they have to explain something to their little ones that none of them want to explain. I know most kids are sexually curious or know the basics at a very young age nowadays, but c'mon. The borg wants them to stay away from it, but they make it sound so appealing. 10 bucks says there was a spike in that area of Google searches..."What is porn?"

  Have you seen Southern Mama on youtube and facebook? Look up Darren Knight, aka "Southern Mom". I swear he spies on me to get his material. I don't think there's a single video he's made that isn't EXACTLY like me in some way or another...my favorite is "Gettin Dem Babies to Bed" because that is literally me every.single.day.

  Does that happen to you?

  Ha. Yes! When I visit my Michigan family, or even talk on the phone to them, I get a northern accent so thick it drives my honey batshit. lol And being around his family, none of which have ever lived more than 50 miles radius from our hometown, has added about 1000 layers of thickness to my drawl. His Nanny is the one with the real old-timey southern talk, tho. She says things like "twiced" and "onliest". I love it. Borrow is "barree" and wasps are "wasts", asked is "ast". I absolutely love it.

  What's great about my accent is the simple fact that my parents and literally everyone else in my family (both sides) lives in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. So, I have a southern twang with a touch of Yankee. It makes for some interesting looks from people. Like when I say I want a "pop". Everyone in the south calls anything carbonated "coke"...no matter if it's Sprite, Pepsi, Mt Dew, or Coke-a-Cola. It's all coke. That's just stupid to me. lol I either call the drink by its name or "pop", i.e., "I want a pop. Will you pick me up a Rockstar?" haha

  Yes, I have two legitimately bright-red-headed step kids. Although, I don't treat them any different than my own two. :) They're really a great fit in my family. I'm very close to my step daughter. We're a lot alike...loud, bossy, demanding, needy, and in love with the same man (she just calls him Deddy instead of Darling).

  Yup. Southern Belle, here. I can guarantee that my accent is the real deal, unlike on TWD. BUT!! Where they film, Senoia, is 30 minutes from where I live. The town they're "in", Woodbury, is 15-20 minutes down Hwy 74 from my house, and they've shut down Sprewell Bluff (pronounced "Sproo-will") to film a couple seasons ago, and I go there just about every other weekend or so during the summer to swim and sun on the Flint River. I've thought about being an extra...but I just don't have that kind of time. haha There's a TWD store in Senoia, and there have been a lot of local people that have eaten with, run into, and befriend some of the cast members. Also, in the Hunger Games Mockingjay, I forget which one, "Sector 9" was filmed in an abandoned cotton mill in my hometown right behind my house. Here's the "big news" that Hollywood was in town.

  DS- You and Pal were my favorite admins, by far. I loved Rifter's attitude and how he was "business as usual", and in all honesty, this is exactly what I'd expect from him. He's keeping true to his form and I can't blame him for that.

  Thank you for still offering us support and helping us through this transition. You're an amazing guy, and I hope you still pop in every once in a while. :) xo
