Angst and the Jehovah's Witness Mindset
by cofty inthere is no typical jw personality type.. any of us who were in the religion for a number of years will remember all sorts of individuals.
there is as much variety among jws as there is in the general population.
some were arrogant and judgemental but others were humble and kindly.

Lieu, what do you mean existence is a negative? I thought life is negating the decay that mere existence implies? -

The wt mindset is anchored in the downward spiral of mankind since Eve's perfection. and of course that negates the astonishing improvements in humans and their accomplishments. It is kind of a fatalism. and then the constant thwarting of human advancement by "god": the flood, the tower of babel, and then Satan's world rule. Only service and contribution to wt will cure all that. "angst" to the german mind might not be the right word, it means fear. It is more of a pessimism, fatalism channeled into useless non self improvement, aka religion. a good thing to be aware of cofty. thanks.
There can of course, be real cause for "welt angst" if condition take an uncontrollable turn south, new "leaders", new weapons.

Fisherman, You are describing not time, but movement through time, which is not a given, even in this universe. At the speed of light there is no movement through time. Einstein realised, thinking of surfing on a wave of photons, that the clock [he was watching looking back] would never appear to move. At the rim of a black hole too, you would stop moving through time.Time is really stationary, both inside and outside the universe, it is us in the medium range of expansion that move through it, from one event to the next. If you can be in time without moving through it, what would stop time to exist before, during and after? -

P: "--the more gravity, the less time, the equations of relativity state--" . so: were the conditions before the big bang the opposite that they are now? the universe multiplied by -1, but conditions none- or, nevertheless? -

S: "--Without gravity, there is no time--" EoM: "--he was always there since time didn't exist prior. --"
How can you have "always", every time, continuously, continually without there actually being a dimension to have those occurrences in? And how can you have no time without gravity when the equations of relativity state the opposite: the more gravity, the less time, maximum gravity= no time at all, absence of gravity= full flow of [through] time?
better you-all substitute "time" for movement through time to make it work. for we live in a working, worked universe, that started with raising time to the second power. aka acceleration, "inflation" even.
Some of you want to give the creator nothing. I at least try to give him time.

F: "assumes" -- or better yet presumes? If somehow the big bang energy imbalance was triggered, there had to be acceleration, movement through time squared, You can not have movement through time unless it is there in the first place. or? Am I presumptuous? -

F Get your own NOTHING!!!!" That is a tall order, after all, we are not creators, bu converters, special user of Energy. Particularly making a nothing (no THING) that would serve to make the universe.
The Question " what was there BEFORE the Big Bang?" implies though, that there was time. there was no thing, but there was time. Is it time to accept that?
