The "there should be no stress, no evil" argument is an offshoot of the wt paradise doctrine, turned around to argue against the possibility of a creator that might have included healthy competition, and good nutrition (carnivore's diet) into the package of energy and laws that came through the creation big bang event. The purpose of life is to make the best of it.

because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".
i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

So what? If you have 100 children, it's OK to murder a few of them, is that your argument?
Consider tsunamis to be accidents, uncontrolled events of tectonic plate movements, , movements that also are co-responsible for abiogenesis (remember the deep ocean vents)? I expect my kids to be smart and not to be so copulation irresponsible that they have to,- again and again expose themselves to accidents that happen again and again. The purpose of life is to keep it going, and for me to see what develops, how far my kids can push the envelope, safely.

re: tsunamis, perhaps we are too much focussed on the importance of the individual asking for special status, intervention by the deity? Nature or creation are what they are, and living unprotected in the low dunes, even building vulnerable nuclear plants into the face of such recurring events, is a personal choice. if lessons learned by life is a purpose, the tsunamis taught well, hopefully. (I am working on earthquake proofing the house}

Cold Steel: +-- Worship is a way of recognizing the dominance and authority of God, accepting His laws as binding.
I accept that,- for the laws of Nature, that have a created origin, and most moral laws. Therefore, the more accurate our understanding of these laws and works, and the applying of them are, the closer we are to be in harmony with the creator, but not necessarily to worship in the conventional sense. Of course there were carnivores millions of years ago, but the bible does not say so, meat eating was only granted after the flood. Lyons ate straw in Eden, in the ark and will again in the panda-petting paradise. Revelations are a fabrication, or delusion. Even the revealed - sounding "In the beginning God created Heaven and Earth--" is in error, the creator of the natural laws would never reveal error. So to me, today the real bearer of truth aka worshippers are scientists.

It is a great culture, (not the wt), that has developed under the auspices of the talking snake story, but the believers have to be shaken out of this basis of their belief. and i did not misrepresent the facts of the story. meat was not allowed until the flood. hence Abel sacrificed garbage, fertilizer at best. God did not command worship, it was a spontaneous action invented by humans. The bible story was the best guess at the time, we have moved on, and our actions, aka worship, should be based on what makes further progress. imho. -

without parents.. they have now lived in the netherlands more than half of their lives.
they are well educated, have nothing in sierra leone and everything in the netherlands.

Even in the earliest bible story, god did not take the initiative, demanding to be worshipped, but when Cain and Abel invented religion, he "liked the idea" (quote from Splane). Strangely, ABEL burned some of the meat that was piling up, (nobody, even dogs would eat it) , and god quoted Splane again ," like it" ( the carrion, carry on), and from there, the true worshipper story goes downhill.
On the bright side, God must be a creator (how else did all that stuff get here), and true worshippers, don't worship, wasting meat and vegetables and time. , but create, provide, they find out how creation works, and re-create.
