i have been a jw my whole life and i have never been able to get a clear answer on this question.

jw's do not believe that jehovah will intervene if someone is sick, dying or stopping a car crash.

they feel that jehovah is letting "this world" play out before he solves all of these problems.

God right now just gives some sample help, like the sample miracles of 'Jesus" ;-- now if I could just be part of the sample.

Socrateswannabe, what you are saying is certainly true of the new crop of Circuit Overseers , cooky-cutter types, highly trained in their specialty, not renaissance men. Outside the box thinking does not have to come from outside of establishments though.

put simply, we cannot be certain whether jesus actually stood in the temple or he did so only by means of a vision.

Why do animals suffer?

bonnie is fourteen years old now and she's still fit and active, but she sleeps (and farts) a lot more and is definitely slowing down.. she loves us in her own dumb way and always comes to the door to greet me when i get home from work.

she doesn't 'sin' but yeah, she'll steal biscuits and feel shame afterwards.

The domestic cats do not suffer humans lightly, but have you watched their nightly foreys taken with their body cameras? Animals suffer too because we eat them. Asia: on the menu : MBF special: Mans Best Friend special. Probably delicious, but I never had the heart to swallow it.

Interesting is it not that the Almighty creator who existed all throughout time made his creations on a designated set time scale.

Good point Finkelstein, to be fair, while the creator (if any) must predate the universe, not moving through time, by necessity, creation has to happen in steps that can be identified;-- cosmologist / astrophysisists: the inflationary period, the overlapping generations of stars, novae, supernovae to give us calcium, gold; - Paleontologists, the Cambrian--. The ancient writers just realized this must be tiring, to do it without power tools. so, give me a break, a weekend. Bible is wrong so, do not take it seriously, literally.

when thinking of travelling merchants, think the Caravan that bought Joseph from his brothers. The crime of Joseph?, to be a whistleblower, like many here, who, were preferably to be killed, but because of limitations were butted out into the world for exposing wt wrongdoing, wrongdoctrining.

you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.

i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.

To this deist, the suffering, physical or emotionally, associated with death, is not a deliberately designed feature to serve spiritual development, but the byproduct of a successful, alert nervous system that serves to protect the organism when attacked, or when in danger, including the pain-numbing terror response.
