Things JW's and Atheists have in common
by juandefiero ini was just thinking about something someone said on another thread.
to paraphrase, 'jw beliefs like there being no hellfire, immortal soul, the condition at death...have the ring of truth.'.
i realized, atheists believe these things too!.

This evidence- based conviction of both Atheists and wt-believers is a great idea that emerged from this thread. Are atheists not convinced that the Universe made itself, that life is self-started? and they look for, manufacture (not faking) evidence to bolster their conviction, --through scientific research. WT believers bolster their convictions by manufactured data too. Looking for bible passages to prove their doctrines, adjusting their beliefs to fit new circumstances, Too many anointed, invent the great crowd. Generation of 1914 expired, invent the overlap. If God,s existence, his approval through money is waning,-- dip into real estate sales. dip into kid's ice cream at circus money. -

MY Bethel Experience Part 17
by new boy inmore "odds and ends".
i liked lyman swingle (governing body member)......he was from alabama, he knew how to curse at the right time.
i think, that’s why i went to him, when i was having so much trouble with my future wife’s parents.

Preaching? For what purpose? All JW's need to ask this question.
by park ave boy inwhat is the purpose of preaching if not for converts?.
basically, preaching by the jw's is to make converts.
this in itself implies that jehovah's witnesses believe that they alone have the only acceptable way to god and that everyone else is just not worthy.

the basic premise approaching the doors was: "we are right, and you are wrong!" and we can prove it with a four scripture "sermon" or the "make sure" book. Jws certainly can not recommend the "love"in the congregation. so what is left? -

Overlapping "Kinds"...Coming soon to a Watchtower near you?
by juandefiero inputting on my carnac hat here.. let's say the evidence for evolution becomes so overwhelming that the society eventually has to accept it due to much turmoil in the congregations.
how do they do so without saying they've been wrong?.
why, redefine a word, of course!

cofty: "Therefore there was no Adam, no perfection and no fall. Therefore their version of the Ransom falls apart. and with it the guilt tripping of having to work harder to be worthy of the ransom's application via obedience to the organisation. May be that is their major writing project to come up with a flawed existence via evolution that needs their ministration to bring about perfection. -

Finding the value of God; Isn't it better to believe in a deity?
by Caupon inthe question as to what believing in this entity called god entails is a fairly important question that needs to be answered first.
to me, the key difference between a universe in which god exists versus one where god doesn't lies in the idea of teleology.
in my view, a universe with god entails some sort of process towards an end, an end which can be characterized with words such as bliss and unity and others.

inventing universes just for the heck of it to see what happens . certainly we are surprised every time we look a little closer, deeper, further, so the future is open ended, like in the evolution process, and we are part of it, enjoy it! -

The Bread Illustration (Feb 16 Broadcast) - Massive Contradiction
by fizzle inso... bro flodin puts poison onto the first loaf of bread and says that this pictures someone "sinning against the holy spirit".
he then puts the bread into the trash can stating that jehovah completely discards anyone "sinning against the holy spirit"... meaning they cannot ever be forgiven...he says that the pharisees "sinned against the holy spirit" because they denied indisputable evidence of the operation of jehovah's holy spirit displayed by jesus... therefore jehovah would completely discard them... no way back for them.. fast forward a little... we have the bible character stephen...acts 6:8 says: now stephen, full of divine favor and power, was performing great wonders and signs among the people.so stephen was showing indisputable evidence of the operation of jehovah's holy spirit.now we come to the bible character paul (saul)... he was a pharisee.paul would have seen stephen in action... witnessing the indisputable evidence of the operation of jehovah's holy spirit first hand!yet paul not only waged war against all christians but he personally approved the killing (stoning) of stephen.according to the bread illustration paul should have been discarded by jehovah at this point for "sinning against the holy spirit"... he would have been put in the trash can... no way back at all...but what happened according to the bible?
jesus appeared to him on the road to damascus... he became one of the most zealous apostles in bible history with jehovah's full support!so what on earth is the bread illustration all about?

JWGB: " Paul should indeed have been discarded by Jah at this point for 'sinning against the Holy spirit'. yeah, for at the point of Stephen's stoning he must have heard of the miracles in Jerusalem, thousand of priests being baptized. and he started writing against the establishment he left, as some here. are we getting the message?

ttdtt: God is just a mechanism to make you feel that there is something after death. or better yet during life, for like my young daughter, she is continually putting things together, caring for her pet dolls, dogs. so typical of imitating what we see in nature/creation if you will. Even a one-way force of gravity is pulling matter into empire structures of stars, nicely balanced by velocities. Consider yourself part of a building/caring project. -
