Great science project, money well spend; huge as it is, sharper images are picked up in chile with portable units spread over a large area, and even on different continents. but listening is better than sending, we might regret being discovered by Yaweh - like entities that are already on record to have wiped out whole civilisations. ya-weh ? oh weh! gewalt!

Will China's Giant New Radio Telescope be able to hear YHWH and JESUS conversing?
by fulltimestudent inchina has just switched on its 500 metre diameter radio telescope, nearly twice as large as the previous largest.
among other things it is tasked to do, it will eventually be programmed to look for and analyse radio waves that may have a non-natural origin.. so will the scientists manning this facility eventually hear yhwh and jesus having a chat?.

What is the purpose of life?
by slimboyfat inwhile reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.
because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".
i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

DJS: "-I'm joking. He seems a nice man.
I never listened, but he looks in picture way to stern, cold-eyed I would not like to have been one of his altar boys or his son/ daughter. If he had any children, at least he would have fulfilled one of the purposes of life. -

We were fooled by the. " Jehover" of the W.T.
by The Rebel ini think that's a fair comment.
but i am not convinced by the " god" outside the w.t so far, and i think that's also a fair comment.
if god exists why does he seem a complete liability to convincing the majority of decent people i know to associate with his one true religios organisation?

We were fooled by the assumption, used by WT promises and premises of having special status, exemption from the law of nature, protection from "god" for us, our family, our religion to the detriment others, our friendly competitors. Creation, existence is a gift, as it is, use it well.

Lesson from the Tsunami on the purpose of life: If your life is a gift from a creator, one way or another, you have to pass it on or it is lost. you are responsible, so priorities the protection of it's fertile bearers. Natural laws will not be violated, never have been, and have served us well as a species to get here. Beyond that, as a human, be thankful, enjoy the extra perks, the luxuries that our times allow. stop whining. stop demanding more than you see that is already given. an ironclad promise that the laws are reliable, can work for and with you.

Cofty: The tsunami was not a result of tectonics
Why did I bring it up? because of your statement above, contradicting your good points in the link from the past. WT bsw. claims that jesus has full control over nature's forces, waves. and he , according to last week's study, is now established in his kingdom (1914). so, the tsunami is true, the power of the kingdom is not, and those that make it their purpose in life are in for the disappointment of their life. Jesus could calm the waters of a little lake, but not the Indian Ocean.
Your description reminds me of the dual nature of light, it starts out as waves when travelling, but becomes hard hitting particles when impacting.

cofty: "The tsunami was not a result of tectonics but of plates getting stuck at the subduction zone. Something that would have been trivially easy for the god of Jesus to prevent.
hate to tell you this cofty, but the Indonesian and the Japan tsunamis were the result of plate tectonics, plates getting stuck between jerking movements, or spreadings which are the source of deep ocean vents, that are pegged as a possible source of the abiogenesis conditions. But why are we talking about a creative (and sometime destructive) process, when for humans the meaning of life has more to do with the beauty, the family, the intense feelings, the music, the glory of it all?

wizzstick: "But it does not bear the fingerprints of a God
but you see, to me it does, I imagine, what if I had to make any of it, or all of it, myself by hand, and life for us humans today can be glorious, like the cathedral, the universe we live in, and yes the images of the majestic waves rolling in., wishing and working so nobody would get hurt.

ws: "--A creator that created a world for life to live on, but also created it in such a way that earthquakes/tsunamis would kill vast numbers over history would be perverse.
It is not perverse, it is nature. it is the way it is , get used to it. All stars, all creatures before you have died so you as you are, can live. Some die young in accidents, other satisfied of old age, but death is part of life, it what keeps it moving. I happen to believe still, that the universe did not create itself. it took energy time & work to have it. yes you are right, I love to work, create novel things, ideas. it is a good purpose in life, remunerative too.

According to wt, all christians were anointed before 1931. but with only ~ 130 000 openings for the only salvation before that, did all the millions of earlier partakers partake unworthily? after all, they did not believe in current true wt doctrines, the 1919 fd slave, (they erroneously thought the apostles were "in") the coming overlapping generation, the Other Sheep not as the gentiles but as non-Christian bread & wine refusers. so: according to wt logic, all these millions were not true Christians, despite martyrs sacrifice, but doomed because not anticipating wt temporarily fleeting doctrines? wt logical anointed problem indeed.
