JW attitudes on women - why beneficial
by tergiversator inmy secret wish, when i was about 10 years old and we were going through the revelation book for the second time, was that one day we would show up at the book study and all the baptized brothers would be missing and they would let me read.
i was pretty sure that i wouldn't mangle words like thyatira and laodicea nearly as badly as some of the poor brothers they roped into reading at times, who looked like they were being tortured during particularly difficult lessons.. i liked to read, i thought.
my older brother got to read a lot, even when he wasn't baptized.

Tales from the Couch
by Seven ini asked my therapist if it is possible for a patient to be re-traumatized during the course of treatment.
confronting memories over and over again.
painting mental images even more graphic to replace the vague ones i once had-is this a good thing?

Wayne,
I don't think you've worked in 2 mental health facilities,I think you've been a patient in both. T -

fp,
ANY woman needs the time I spoke of,ALL congs. are repressive to women. Your flippant remark doesn't change the hard fact of JW females and their second class status. When you get up and give a Sunday talk, become the School servant, lead in a prayer(w/ both genders present)become an elder, then tell me your cong isnt repressed.
What I wrote were just SOME of the recovery strategies needed by ALL women leaving such a patriarchal gerontacracy-some of those worked for me,others I havent mentioned,. You dont seem to undertand a general statement from a specific one.
Cognitive re-structuring I would add in your paticular case along with developing critical thinking skills. Tina -

Pass the red wine for me
by wasasister intonight, i would have attended the memorial, if my witness daughter had asked me to go.
during the two previous yearly occasions, i was inactive, but i went with her because it seemed to mean a great deal to her.
she has either given up on me, or the event does not mean what it once did to her.. i was thinking about another memorial, one i would rather celebrate.

fp,
There is no equality in teaching at any kh, where are the sisters giving the sunday discourses? Or how about talks at the assemblies?
Or sisters giving the bible readings? What you describe is a little 'lip service' nothing more... you can't be in a position of teaching responsibility, and anything a woman "teaches' can be amended, vetoed, disregarded by the men,,,as merely suggestions,,,,,nope, you're hoodwinked into thinking that a woman has any full share. The dumbest 15 yr old brother can 'take the lead' and have responsibility, over a sister with a PhD..and if you think that's just fine and fair,I feel sorry for you. What Prisca said is true, and I heard it before myself. What planet is your cong on? -

1975 - After 26 years isn't it time to move on?
by digderidoo ini'm relatively new on this site...but one subject i've noticed that seems to create alot of interest is that of 1975.. our family became witnesses it 1983 so i wasn't around at the time.
forgive me if i do not understand why many were so angry with the wts at the time.. i understand the point that the society blamed individual witnesses and didn't take any responsibility themselves.
i can see how witnesses got angry over that.. but, what i do not understand is why many still research into what the society said, or didn't say, or insinuated.

Dig,
I take issue with the comment'didn't take responsibility fir themselves'. Jt and Thirdson explained that to you quite well..you werent there to hear talk after STRONG talk from the platform about higher education being a waste of time in this limited 'system of things'. And how pioneering was just about the only way to use these 'last days' wisely. How those who mentioned college or tried to go wwere treated: With derision and as spiritually sick and weak ones......the pressure ones witness family put on you to 'do the right thing' avoid worldly pursuits and pioneer,,,,,,,I gave up scholarships..... and then later on in life, struggling as a single parent, working full time and going to college as an 'older adult'.
Or having to take care of medical problems that many put off because the new system was around the corner and jeh would fix everything we'd soon be perfect,so who needed to bother? Or how people sold homes, cashed in insurance policies, etc. Many areas of life were were seriously affected due to the '75' debacle. Have you checked out other w/s that have personal expeeriences about that? It's a real eye-opener,I suggest you do. Tina
