JWs in the UK diferrent to USA or elsewhere?

i am in the uk.. i have an ex-jw relative in the usa.

he says that having lived ib both the uk and the usa that the jws are different from the uk to the usa.. how true could this be?.

at least int he area i grew up the term 'mother' for the organization is not familiar to me.

I have been to many countries, having attended witness functions in various countries. There is a difference. E.g. in Scandinavia, the Danish witnesses are regarded as liberal, e.g. allowing brother with beards to give talks also at district convention level, whereas in Sweden, dancing is not allowed at weddings in some areas.

IN Portugal, I experienced an elder drinking a glass of wine before conductiong the Watchtower study an hour later. Unheard of in North. Europe.

Culture definitely plays its role.

I found American witnesses as well as German witnesses to be more extreme than their Scandinavian counterparts.

his reaction wasnt as liberal as i hoped it would be.

he said that we needed to discuss it.

however, gone are the days where im putting myself in the firing line and not sticking up for myself.

I think it is nice that you keep a faith, and that you´ve started on a new spiritual journey. Wish you the best and hope you´ll be welcomed as you deserve. I occasionally attend a gay- accepting lutheran church and it is nice to be accepted.

i gather from my other thread that many liked the creation books, the mankind search for god book, the greatest man book and the ministry school book.. but which book did you absolutely detest?.

here is mine:.

i thought it was a vile, hate filled book!.

Worldwide Security Under The prince Of Peace stands out as the book I openly disagreed with in some parts.

I was the book study conductor at the time, and when the paragraphs discussing the destruction of people at Armageddon, using terms like good riddance to them and explicit details on how they were destroyed, I just stated that we do not want to go into more detail of this. also I refrained discussing the option of going to other planets etc that was briefly touched upon in that book.

I think that for the majority of witnesses a softening up stance on the shunning issue will be a relief for many.

i liked the greatest man book.

i thought it was very informative and unbiased.

a good summary of the gospels.. .

I liked to the Search book, the Insight encyclyopedia, the Greatest man book, the magazines, the Proclaimers book, and the Yearbook... (even today, I sneak peek the yearbook)...

I think his lifestory was published in the magazines once... If my memory is reliable, I think he was was Jewish and involved in many real estate dealings of the societyl, or am I totally off line here or mixing him up with someone else?

the wtbts has, since withdrawing their ngo status with the un in 2001, been using a number of key wtbts representatives to build up a rapport with government officials and un representatives in relation to countries and areas the society is having trouble with, france ($$$), russia, singapore, georgia, armenia, azerbaijan, korea, to name a few.. .

the osce maintains special relations with 12 countries, which are known as partners for co-operation.

mediterranean partners for co-operation.

give me a break. The reason why they are mentioned in the same context in this meeting is that they have been victims of attacks in the same country.

Thus it it is logical to present those issues at the same meeting.

note: i retyped the boe letter that was sent from the christian congregation of jehovahs witnesses to all congregations in the us.

the letter is authentic.

How come American ex-Jws react so strongly to this?

It has been a method of giving in Europe for years/decade(s).

Now they´re starting to implement the chip in cards in the US.

In my area we had a test programme starting using them in the early 80s....

in need of my continuing search for spirituality and my desire to find a church where i can be welcomed and have good enjoyable spiritual conversation with its members, jack and i decided today that we would visit the baptist church near his home.

I also attend a non judgmental church, albeit Lutheran... It is nice to be welcomed as a complete human being.
