In Norway the arrangement of receiving government grants have been known among JWs for decades. After all more than 700 religious groups receive it as it comes along with being a registered religious community. However, I do remember US witnesses where shocked when I told them about it.

Shaking Down Satan - WT Sues Norway
by Sea Breeze ini wonder how many witnesses are aware that the wt and their team of lawyers are currently suing the government of norway for millions of dollars?
i thought that the wt taught that all the governments were run by satan.
when i was a witness, this would have really bothered me.

Are JWs forgetting Jesus altogether?
by KerryKing ina relative sent me yesterday's wt study article 46, how jehovah guarantees his promise of paradise.. it's been a long time since i read one of those articles but what really struck me about this one is that, considering it's discussing a fundamental jw belief, it only mentions jesus twice as an aside, and not at all as the central figure like the bible does.
it actually mentions satan far more in the same article!.
i don't remember this discrepancy from my time in the org 15 years ago.

Jehovah's Witnesses are suing the Dutch state for discrimination
by jochie injehovah's witnesses believe it is unfair that the state only investigated their handling of abuse cases, and not other religious organizations.jehovah's witnesses have sued the dutch state for discrimination, the national government told trouw.
the reason: only their handling of sexual abuse has been scrutinized by the government, while other religious groups remained unaffected.
they find the fact that only they were the 'target' unfounded and therefore discriminatory.. the fact that a religious organization is suing the state is 'fairly unique', says special professor of law and religion paul van sasse van ijsselt.

In january a ten day trial will take place in Oslo, Norway. Jw has taken Norway to court for removing their status as a registered religious community (as the only of more than 700) and the funding that comes along with that right. So exciting times in Europe

Nobody else understands
by ElderBerry inif you once were fully pimi and truly believed jw doctrine to the core like i once did, when you come to the reality that it is not the truth at all it can be extremely devastating.. i think only other ex jws could ever understand.
i wasted my entire life i thought the real life was yet to come to wasted the best years knocking on doors.
now i’m so angry.. i can understand why so many top themselves when they realise it was all lies..

I also spent 30 years (9 to 39) as a witnes, incl. being a ministerial servant and elder. It affected my life choices. However, I am not angry or bitter. That would be a waste of energy. Had many nice memories too. And it is part of my life book.

Did Geoffrey Jackson lie under oath at the ARC?
by Vanderhoven7 ini understand he intimated that the faithful slave was not the only spokesman for jehovah god.
he also intimated that corporal punishment was not advocated by the wts.
we're these lies or deception or did they represent the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?.

In norwegian wt literature it is stated like this:
The Bible often uses sheʹvet symbolically, as an image of authority. (2 Samuel 7: 14; Isaiah 14: 5) When it comes to parental authority, the rod or 'rice' can include all forms of discipline, and they need not be of a physical nature. According to Norwegian law, it is not permitted to use physical punishment in child-rearing
