I had good parents. They got baptized when I was 11 years old and I got baptized four years later. I would most definitely say that I had a good life most of the time as a witness. But I discovered the truth about the truth and left. I am not at all bitter...

What's missing from this list of technologies used by JWs
by scotoma inthis topic has been discussed before but it is interesting to look at it in the light of the new book god's kingdom rules.. 1903 news paper sermons.

They have been using TV. It has been mention of it in the yearbook in the account of a certain country or countries... Perhaps it was Italy. Cannot remember exactly....

"Banned in Brooklyn"
by Quendi ini hope this thread generates some discussion as well as some amusement.
i want to talk about "banned books".
back in the middle ages, the roman catholic church issued its index librorum prohibitorum, the list of prohibited books.

I remember visiting Bethel in my country on the time they got their postal delivery... At lest four or five of them got the book of the month from the biggest book club in the country... I would say Bethel thus had a slightly higher percentage of people getting that book that particular book than the general population...

Expressions on faces at DC/RC
by BU2B ini have become more observant at the last couple district conventions of jws faces and enthusiasm and it seems to be very somber.
i remember a couple of years ago i was an attendant at one of the upper sections at the blue cross arena in rochester, ny and in afternoon session at least half were curled up with their eyes closed, some with blankets.
the applause seems very forced and mechanical.

New DVD review
by Laika ini managed to catch the new dvd on youtube last night before the inevitable takedown.
as a film i felt it wasn't anywhere near as good as the prodigal movie, the story wasn't as dramatic, the characters much less interesting and developed and the direction weaker.
i found the prodigal relatively entertaining (all things considered) this one was just dull.. here are some of my random thoughts anyway [spoiler alert - ha!].

I just saw it, and I agree the house was over the top. It is ridicilous to live in such a big house...
Few people in general do and even more so among JWs that in general have other priorities and possibilities.

No wonder this interview is popular among JWs. And for them it is a truly big event and I guess this talk show sequence really makes them genuinely proud.

by Crazyguy injust wondering to those that have gone to one of the international or rc assemblies what's the attendance been like.

I went to two international assemblies, one in Europe and one in Africa. These experiences were great :-) . I got friends with several people at both assemblies that I kept in touch with for years and even visited later.

An old Watchtower offshot in Africa
by Londo111 inhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/religion_in_the_democratic_republic_of_the_congo#kitawala.
a much more radical product of the synthesis of african and christian elements is the kitawala movement or so-called "watchtower movement", which appeared in katanga province during the 1920s.
influenced by the black american missionary activity in south africa of the watch tower bible and tract society (jehovah's witnesses), the movement converted miners who then spread elements of the movement northward from their south african base into the katangan copper belt.. the british "reverend" james booth and his african associate elliott kamwana, both black, used watch tower publications but did not limit their preaching to the bible students message of charles taze russell (it does not seem that russell understood this at the time).
