Fundamentalism we take distance from, whether it is based on Christian, Muslim or other religious faiths.

In today's society in which several religions meet, tolerance is particularly important.

The Norwegian Church has over the last hundred years has evolved to become a national church which preaches tolerance and charity.

Other Christian communities are far behind.

Brooklyn Bethel Tours Through The Roof

was speaking with someone last night who just recently toured the us bethel's.

the brooklyn tour i heard was awful, very limited and disappointing and conducted by a local pioneer and not even a bethelite.

well from what they are telling the folks on the tour since the tm3 bit encouraging (guilting) people about going to disneyland on vacation when you haven't visited bethel, monthly tours went from 6000 to 16000!

I visited many branch offices as well as the HQs while a witness. Was always interesting.

USA, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Greece, Barbados, Austria and Kenya.

What actually DID you learn?

my jw friends that still speak to me, tell me that they love the meetings because of the things they learn.. i wonder what they think they're learning?

it an avenue that always perplexes me because their replies are just so wishy washy or i get a blank stare when i ask.. what's you r experience?.

I learnt a lot of bible characters, greek language/grammar, bible history, bible in general.

By reading the literature I have learnt a lot on various subjects, especially since at my time Awake was published twice a month each having 32 pages and the layout was not as "airy" as today.

My Mom Is Dying

i just wanted to say that my dear 89 year old mom is terminally ill and will soon pass.

she is on morphine and hanging on.

she has been a devout witness for about 60 years and a wonderful mother.

Introducing Myself

i've finally got round to joining the site (after over 2 years lurking!

i was born into jws, pioneered for 10 years (met my husband at pioneer school).

had health issues that saw me catapulted away from 'the centre of the cong' and wow what a different place that was!

Welcome... And I guess you’re right that they would not have left you alone.

«There is a lot more to the story but the upshot is my husband resigned as an elder, we both stopped going to meetings. Over 2 years later we received a text from the elders to say they believed we were celebrating Christmas ( I think the lights on the outside of my house gave it away)!!! CO got involved and said the elders should leave us alone as we had been out for over 2 years. We knew they would never leave us alone though (and a million other reasons) so we disassociated ourselves.»

Fours years after we stopped going to meetings and I resigning as an elder, my ex-wife got a visit from two elders stating they had got reports that she was celebrating christmas (lights in the window). So we wrote a letter and DA the day after...
