beards, I guess, are more a cultural than organizational issue.. E.g. elders in Denmark, Ireland and the Netherlands have beards.

The Congregation just paid flowers and other expensive for the PO COBE who died two weeks ago?
by life is to short ini have never in my whole life heard of this being done but at my husband's hall they just asked the congregation to pay about $250.00 to help with the cost of the dinner after the memorial and for flowers.. i was a jw for over 45 years and i have never heard of this.
when my parents died who had been jw's for years i felt lucky fortunate to even be able to use the kingdom hall for their memorial.
i am just speechless at them giving money.

When I was in, flowers were always given from the congregation to all those who were witnesses that were buried... It was covered from the general funds received every month.

Kingdom Hall got Disassociated
by Quarterback inwell, i thought i've seen everything.. a congregation in our city just sold thier kingdom hall.
they must have been desparate, because they sold it to an evangelical group for an amount less than what they boasted about.
but, these are hard financial times.. all i could remember is the 25 yrs ago, dedication talk.

Tomorrow's Watchtower Study: Steve hits Selma in North America... not South America
by Alfred ini started a thread a few days ago that probably went unnoticed for the most part (under "scandals & cover-ups") regarding steve hitting selma in tomorrow's wt study... i just wanted to recap it here for those who may have missed it.... the spanish version changes the story completely.... if you've read that paragraph 12 it basically says that steve hit selma as she tried to prove a point.
selma then feels sorry for herself.. in the spanish version steve merely gets furious with her and she gets sad.. by the way, i just looked up the italian version... .
selma ricorda una lezione che imparo dalla sorella che le conduceva lo studio.

Not only the family books were altered. No reference ever has been made to corporal punichsment in e.g. the Norwegian editions of WT and Awake and other literature since corporal punishment was outlawed in the early 80s.
Thus, such behaviour never take place in the KHs either. And even prior to that some JWs did not like that kind of child upbringing. People are of course influenced of the cultural atmosphere they live in.

I went to the Watchtower Study with the "Selma and Steve" article today, and....
by cedars inno, i didn't really - but i'm anxious to hear from anyone who did!!.
what happened after the paragraph was read?
did anyone try to denounce abusing one's spouse under any circumstances, or were most answers supportive of the "advice" given to selma, i.e.

When I was in, I remember a ministerial servant lost his privileges and got a public reproof for having hit his wife. His wife was even a non-witness at the time.
