I definitely know, having been one for 30 years, and also visiting numeral kingdom halls, branches in several countries. However, I am somewhat surprised in a way that they would expect a non-witness with no previous connection (on the most part) to go to an assembly 15 hours drive away... But, it is not the main reason I guess.
It is to keep the Jws busy as well as making them visible in their neighborhoods making known their activities and arrangements.
Also refreshing to see a picture of two pioneers that are not styled the way they are in the JW literature.

The poor and deprived life of JW children.
by Esse quam videri ini find it hard to believe that adults on this forum make such a big deal about not celebrating birthdays, x-mas, easter, halloween, etc, etc, etc.
i grew up as a jw kid and it actually made me feel good, being different from the other kids in school.
we went to meetings.

I went to the library all the time. They never interfered with my choice of literature etc... -

Finally someone who is not bashing everything as bad. I have a lot of good memories as being a witness, quite a few unique. I value and appreciate those memories, cause they are part of me and my history. I did not live a double life as a youth and I guess that made the life as a JW less burdensome and troubled. I was convinced at the time and did not feel forced. My parents allowed me to make my own choices. They never lectured nor deprived me of "normal things"... But perhaps Scandinavians are less inclined to extremes than e.g. Americans where extreme conservatism is much more widespread. -

"Normal family affections and dealings" continue - If only?!?
by LHS123 ini am new to this forum - it is only a couple of weeks since i have allowed myself to acknowledge and research my doubts.
i am trying to be fair by reading both sides of the story and considering jw official explanation of confusing matters.
one of the issues i have been looking at is shunning - and i was shocked to see the misleading information about shunning on the jw.org website: .

I remember years back the statements was really misleading as was stated above. I did write to the public relations brother in my country (at this time being an elder and in good standing obviously) making clear that I disapproved of the doublespeak made to the public by the website, in media versus inside "loving guidance". Two months later the wording was changed on the website. Quite a coincidence, or maybe not.

Was an elder once: I remember in my congregation a ministerial servant that had a non-witness wife was removed from his position due to having hit his wife. She later did become a witness though. -

The same happened in Denmark quite a few years ago. I remember because it was reported on in a major newspaper in Norway. The newspaper stated that they had read Crisis of Conscience. -

Do Kingdom Hall congregations communicate with each other?
by Faithful Witness inwhen asked, my mom denies that they do.... do local congregations pass along gossip or reports on householders in the area?
specifically, i am wondering if they might report on (unbaptized) family members that live in other towns?.
since the abrupt ending of my bs with miss k, i have not heard from the jw's at all.

Jehovah’s witnesses are not the brightest?
What kind of remark is that???
Although they belong to a religion that the vast majority here has abandoned, it is not fair to brand the adherents that way, although WT at times do publish somewhat out of proportion remarks about other groups than themselves..
