Did you ever needlessly quit ajob as a witness ?
by Steel inmy wife has a friend ( male ) with a six month old baby who just decided to be unemployed and had a fairly good paying job.
without giving up too much information it seems quite weird.
the reason i ask is because i have been in meetings and assemblies and some of the advice they like to give doesn't seem very intelligence about being a productive member of society.

I have never needlessly quit, but I know the JW leadership suggests rank and file members quit if the job interferes with meetings, service, assemblies or conventions. They aren’t supposed to worry about how to put food on the table, keep the roof over their head or shirts on their backs, but just have faith and confidence that Jehovah will provide for them.
I don’t see how any rank and file member can even listen to those idiots in Warwick. Think about the life they live for a minute, they are out of touch with reality. They never have to worry about paying a mortgage or rent, paying utilities, going out and buying groceries, spending time preparing meals, doing laundry, cleaning the house, maintaining vehicles, absolutely none of that. They are riding the gravy train and they have the nerve to tell the members to just quit and everything will be fine, pathetic!

One of the points of conventions: obedience training
by john.prestor ini think a lot these days about people who train you to be obedient without telling you that's what they're doing.
the thought occurred to me that that could be part of the idea of regional conventions.
it's not like they present much of anything new to the audience, it's the same old talks year after year, the same old information, yeah, repackaged a little, different themes, different illustrations, but the same information, obey the faithful slave, armageddon is imminent, go door-to-door, the usual.

It’s crazy to think everyone schedules time off work to attend these assemblies and conventions, in addition to spending hundreds on hotels, gas and food. What makes it so odd is it’s the same information you hear from your local Kingdom Hall over and over again. It’s a huge cash generating event for the Organization, that’s all there is to it. The only bright moment for people is the concluding “Amen” each day so they can enjoy a nice dinner and swim at the hotel.

I’m sure your Bible study conductor cares about you and is disappointed you quit, but her ultimate disappointment is now she can’t count those 13 hours per month. She will have to accumulate the same time by doing cold calls on other people or driving all around to consume time. That is her main disappointment, I can assure you of that.
As you said, the study should have stopped quite awhile back. Some see that and decide to do it to put forth effort on other promising studies. I’m sure in her case, she didn’t have any others, so she viewed you as “easy time”.

The Organizations obsession with image.
by BourneIdentity inas we all know, the highest priority or concern in the religion isn’t about adhering to god’s word or obeying jehovah and jesus, but rather the image of the organization and all its members.
just yesterday there was a talk where the brother stated how important it is to keep our homes clean, yards free of junk piling up and cars clean, because it could possibly detract from the message.
besides those things he mentioned, they want all males to never grow a beard or goatee.

Good point truth_b_known.
Obesity is just as much harmful to your health as smoking, drinking and drugs are. It’s clear that people that are obese put food above their health, there is no other way around it. That is the definition of gluttony.

One thing I just realized is those ones getting counseled not to wear tight pants or spandex are most likely in good shape. I don’t know any heavy brothers that would wear tailor fit dress pants. Although heavy women could and do wear spandex, I’m sure most don’t want to reveal that while jogging in the neighborhood, where someone with a good figure would be more willing to.
So isn’t it ironic how the ones in good health get chastised for either focusing less time on Jehovah and being too obsessed with their health and grooming and absolutely no counsel is ever unleashed on all the overweight and obese! As critical and judgemental as Tony Morris is, I pray for the day when he can give a morning worship or monthly broadcast and rip into people for not losing weight and looking like such slobs. The Dubs worship these guys and I think it would motivate them to get into shape.

Just yesterday there was a talk where the brother stated how important it is to keep our homes clean, yards free of junk piling up and cars clean, because it could possibly detract from the message. Besides those things he mentioned, they want all males to never grow a beard or goatee. Always encouraging to dress modestly, can’t forget no spanx or tight pants either. Even in the publications where it shows JWs at home or doing family worship, the males in the house tend to have collared shirts on. Then there is the regular reminders how they are a spectacle before the nations and they need to be careful of everything they do and say while preaching door to door or on any other occasion.
So with that being said, why is there absolutely no emphasis on its members from looking healthy and being an ideal weight or even slightly above that? I can’t tell you how many members are obese and it blows my mind that it’s not a concern to the Governing Body. How can a person feel this person preaching to them has all the answers to life when they outwardly show they cannot even take care of the body Jehovah gave them?
I think I already know the answer. Encouraging people to take care of themselves would mean less time to worship the Organization. It would also mean that person starts to feel confident in him or herself. The Org would never want that!
As far as I’m concerned, all these things they promote to give the Org a clean, professional image is like putting lipstick on a pig if the person is in need of some serious weight loss. Amazing they continue to publish gluttony is a disfellowshipping offense, yet never, ever act on that.

What does the Bible Really Teach?
by days of future passed inpurely from a structural view - favoritism and who has the better position.. when you think about who sinned and their punishment, you start to see a pattern.
this doesn't cover all instances but it is telling.. if you murder, fornicate and disobey but are a king or other notable, you probably get away with your life intact.
in fact, others may suffer for your sinning while you get forgiven.. however, if you impinge on any priestly duties or offices, you are toast.. king david, the one beloved by the wt, is a notable example.

Another thing I thought about is animal sacrifices in the past. You sin and to obtain forgiveness, Jehovah wants you to pick your best animal to kill and offer up to him. So in this day and age, let’s say you have 2 cats and a dog. One cat has diabetes, the other is blind in one eye. Your dog is perfectly healthy, so that’s the one you have to kill to offer up to Jehovah. How sick is that?

I’ve always laughed when people would say Jehovah exercises perfect justice. How is it “just” that we get sick and die due to what Adam and Eve did? Why do we have to exercise faith in Jesus sacrifice and prove ourselves acceptable or worthy when Adam and Eve fucked up? Would you as a parent punish all your younger children for something your oldest child did? No, it’s so wrong and unjust. Every Christian religion believes this and I can’t believe more don’t question how ridiculous it is.
Wouldn’t it have been enough for Jehovah to condemn humans to death, but at least give them all great health to give them a taste of what they are missing out on? Isn’t adding all the sickness and disease just adding more salt into the wounds? Millions of people live a miserable life for the majority of their life.
Then like the OP said, Jehovah killed David and Bathsheba’s child, way to punish an innocent victim, just like all of us are. Such a load of shit.

Days Text for today, a clue the Governing Body could be raptured soon?

11:26.. regarding the great tribulation just ahead of us, jesus said: “they will see the son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

I could see the GB disappearing and JWs wondering how that could have happened since they didn’t see Jesus. Then they will conclude that only the 144,000 could see him coming, for the rest of us it was invisible. Then the elders urge people to stop questioning and off to their basement or bunkers, for the end is here!
