It’s pure speculation on my part, I don’t believe I worded it in a way to make it sound like it was fact or truth. However, if the WT can pass along all their teachings as truth, then change many of them and still say it is truth and they weren’t lying or wrong prior to that, can’t I do the same?

I usually have a 6th sense towards these things. I would bet I’m about 80% correct on all my assumptions.

You know how the Slave tells us all never to drink alcohol at dinner time on a meeting night? They don’t want us under any type of influence when we attend the meeting later that evening, because it would be disrespectful to Jehovah. I could see them ignoring their own counsel and sipping those scotches at any hour of the day. The rules don’t apply to them.

If I’m not dead on right about my assumptions, the other alternative is this was all for Tony. But I have a strong feeling all 8 of those brothers really enjoy this drink, so I’m sticking with my initial idea.

I would bet dollars to donuts that this expensive scotch is the preferred drink of the entire Governing Body. They are all sipping on this stuff during all their scriptural discussions of what New Light to introduce to the flock. This type of alcohol run is most likely done every 2 weeks. 8 men that are self medicating can go through a dozen bottles of this in no time. It was Tony’s turn to get it and he got caught with his pants down. The next Governing Body member that has to make the run, you can rest assured he will have a change of plans. They probably are paranoid and feel all the apostates have staked out every liquor store in a 30 mile radius from the Warwick compound.

The everyday fears of a JW

This is why the religion has such a problem with depression, anxiety and suicide. Constant fear and extreme low self esteem of not being able to measure up to expectations. Husbands stay busy providing for their family, have a home and cars to maintain, kids to care for and then everyone in the congregation, including their spouse rides them because they aren’t reaching out and doing enough. It ends many marriages.

While they tell you to think the worst of worldly people, they tell you to think the best of the brothers and sisters. That is all lip service, because when anyone sees someone doing something, like Tony buying all that scotch, were trained to think the worst. We have to assume he’s an alcoholic and we need to keep the congregation clean, so off to the elders we rat him out.

It’s such a toxic environment. So many people are cured of their mental issues shortly after they leave.

I know others have woke up due to huge things like the ARC, UN, blood issue, shunning, but mine was due to how Pharisaical the leaders are, how much absolute control they exercise over the members.

Any practicing JW needs to give it some serious thought. These psychotic, power hungry men want to set rules for what you and your wife can do sexually behind closed doors. It’s not enough that you remained a virgin and did everything by the book staying morally clean before marriage. It doesn’t matter if he is an elder and the wife is a pioneer. You both can get disfellowshipped for doing certain acts in the privacy of your own bedroom. I’m not talking snorting cocaine or getting drunk, I’m talking typical foreplay things leading up to sex that any couple would do.

When we had the Annual Meeting several years ago when Tony went off telling sisters they shouldn’t wear spandex when jogging in the neighborhood and no brother should wear Tailor fitting dress pants, that was the last straw, I was fed up with their domination and control. They are truly offspring of vipers!

You know what blows my mind in all of this? All of the apostates, PIMOs, inactive ones, disfellowshipped, disassociated or even ones that have never been a JW on this discussion, are referencing scriptures and articles from the Watchtowers showing how what Tony did wasn't right. Then the WT apologists, at least that's what they appear to be, are leaning more towards their own human reasonings to defend him, rather than sticking to God's Word and the Watchtower. Oh the irony!! Be warned, when you have to close the Bible and the WTs and use your own reasoning, you have abandoned your faith! If you have abandoned your faith, then why defend Big Tony? Are you close buddies with him?

I think I made up my mind

a month ago i travelled alone to italy for three days and i had the opportunity to visit the beautiful florence and re-visit many parts of rome.. but most importantly, i had the opportunity to stay alone and think about my situation and to make up my mind.. i've had very clear for almost 5 years that i will eventually leave the religion, but i couldn't decide when.. but now i know : i will leave on april 20th, the day after the memorial.. that day i will talk to my parents (this is by far the hardest thing to do) and soon afterwards i will talk to my closest friends, then i will send my disassociation letter.

i know that i will let them down, i will hurt them, most probably some of them will cry... but i need to live coherently for the first time in my life.

i'm sure that living in this contradiction is affecting and will affect my mental health and it's time for me to help myself instead of others.

I've had to talk one of my parents “off the ledge” on several occasions when they wanted to disassociate. We would meet up for lunch or dinner and I would explain the consequences as clearly as I could to them. I'm glad they always listened and haven't done it yet! It's paid off, because more and more in my family are waking up, there aren't many left before we are all of the same mindset. I understand though, you get emotional and upset and want to stick it to the Org. Once the dust settles though, the reality of it all sets in and it’s tough times.

I'm willing to guess that out of the 8.6 million active publishers, millions of those are checked out and simply just turning in time for family worship. Once you stop believing, it makes it almost impossible to go door to door. You stop giving talks, commenting, preaching and just show up at a meeting now and then. I went to a meeting last week and really enjoyed the conversation with others. There are some very genuine, great friends there. I think I can really enjoy myself there because I don't believe in all the doom and gloom crap they constantly speak of. By going with a fade, you sort of get the best of both worlds.

I also agree with Giordano, you will be punishing your parents and your loved ones. There are dozens of victims when someone is disfellowshipped or disassociated, not just that person. The Organization acts like the family members that shun should just keep happily serving Jehovah while they can have no contact with their loved ones, and act is if having no natural affection is what Jehovah wants.

You have to realize your parents don't deserve to be punished. Sure, it's easy to say they can make a conscious choice to talk to you. But realize how strong their beliefs are. Think of how strong a suicide bombers belief is that they are doing the right thing for God. It's no different with your parents and loved ones, it is really sad when you think about it. Take the time to get away from all the BS at the Kingdom Hall, decompress, destress and get your sanity back. You will be amazed at how much happier you become when you distance yourself from that toxic environment.

I know you've thought about this for 5 years, but sending in a disassociation letter has extreme consequences, which I'm sure you already know.

How many friends and relatives do you have outside of the religion? If you have next to no one, your world will be flipped upside down.

I would suggest a fade, just stop going. If anyone asks, you are discouraged, depressed, have doubts, whatever you think. There are benefits of staying in. You can maintain contact with loved ones and hope to wake them up as well. It's a slow, drawn out process, but can work after time. It's easy to leave the religion by yourself, but most want to take their families with them. Watchtower holds a gun to your head, leave the faith and lose your family. Stay and be miserable to keep your family.

Before you make any haste decision, just picture all the JWs being spiritually strong and loyal to the Organization and having zero contact with you. Could you deal with that and move on? If not, it might be better to wait a little longer, there is no harm in waiting.
