I don't have children, but it's not that I didn't want children. It would be very difficult for me to have children because of medical problems. I am now nearly 40 and it crosses my mind all the time. Last year I underwent minor fertility treatments to help me along and all that fertility clinic was take my money. Some people benefit from fertility treatments, however I did not. For one thing, you have to have a pretty good income to even afford this kind of stuff. Many people don't know that one round of IVF costs 8,000 to 10,000 (which most insurance won't cover) dollars EACH time. Two rounds of IVF and you can adopt a child. Plus they only gave me a 30 percent chance of pregnancy. Take my 10,000 dollars and only offer a 30 percent chance. My GOD! I saw people at that fertility clinic whipping out the old credit cards to pay for these treatments. I saw many desperate women wanting a baby so bad that they were willing to go in massive debt. One woman I met there had spent 30,000 dollars and still had not gotten pregnant. Have you ever tried so hard to do something and it never came to pass? I think some things are meant to be. My childhood friend who never wanted kids is now getting ready to have her first child. She wouldn't even tell me about her pregnancy for fear I would "hate" her. I have made peace with this. If I have kids, great, if I don't, I will live the life God wants me to live.

Why I don't Have Children
by teenyuck ini just read luckylucy's thread and wanted to tell my story.
i also want to ask a question: why are women who have children viewed more favorably than women who don't?
especially if the choice is to not have children.

I know nothing about the Harry Potter series except lots of kids of all ages love it. My friend who was never a JW will not let her kids see it because of the violence. I think there is a underlying debate going on with people who claim to be Christian and letting their kids go see it. Again, I have no opinion either way.

Governing Body looking for work
by Iwasyoungonce inif the governing body of jehovah witnesses suddenly found themselves out of the power seat that they currently refuse to vacate what do you think might be a fitting job for them to fill?.
i vote for the gb to start making fortune cookie predictions.
finally they could put some of that self appointed spiritual powers to some worth while means.

When my friend and I were in college, my friend would use this phrase to jerky guys while we were getting hit on in bars. She would say "I am the one who scrapes the dead animals off the streets." That cracked me up 20 years ago and it's still funny (to me at least to this day). Maybe the GB could do that profession!

I have watched TBN when I have been flipping through the channels. I always enjoyed watching "A Date with Dale", the late Dale Evans show that was both interesting and sad. She would sing those old gospel songs long after her voice had gone. I have watched with interest that show that ministers to convicts in prison (Liberty to the Captives). I have also seen various Hollywood actors be on that show. I saw Judge Reinhold on there not too long ago. I will always remember him from that bathroom scene in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" when he's looking at Phoebe Cates through the window and doing some self-gratification.

I remember watching Theresa Graves on Laugh In and Get Christy Love when I was a little kid. She was a tall, pretty and very savvy actress. I remember when she stopped acting and Mom told me she had become a JW. That was in the early 70's, if my memory serves me correctly. However, I guess I was really too busy watching The Brady Bunch.

Alcoholism is a hard thing for a person to admit. Once they admit it, they have started towards recovery. However many addicts will never admit it and tell you it's everyone's else fault and they're just fine. AA is a wonderful resource for the alcoholic and their family members or friends (www.aa.org). The alcoholic has got to admit the problem. Also, maybe her insurance pays for rehab. My insurance pays 100% for up to a month.
