Extremely confused about God and His Son, and glad that I had left that mean spirited cult.

My very first rated R movie - Sissy Spacek in "Carrie." That movie scared me to death. Actually one of the most scariest movies I saw as a child was a forgettable one called "House on Haunted Hill." It starred Vincent Price and Richard Long (Jarrod Barkley from Big Valley). That movie scared me to pieces. I found it a few years ago in a sale bin of old movies and bought it. What was I so scared about? Must have been the blood puddle on the ceiling. Ewwwww.....

improper conduct
by zev indoubtless many of us have been to assemblies, and every may the km would come out with an insert about what you were expected to do and how to act.. reviewing the km's over the years , you can see the negative positve "councel".
how to dress, how to act, howt to tip!.
after reading this, doesn't it just want to make you run to attend the next d.c. ?

I remember the annual hand slapping session about assembly conduct. Some of the stories were horrid, and you would here snickers and moans amongst the congregation, but that never really stopped it from happening. Because every year the same stories came around. Perhaps the stories were recycled. I always thought that assemblies brought out the worst in some people, due to hot weather, crowds, screaming kids, and listening to the same old session from some GB member while being forced to wear panty hose, high heels and those awful pioneer skirts. I would like to dress all GB members in the same wardrobe and watch them cope.

I think I'd like to spend a day with Oprah. Sometimes I like her show and sometimes I don't, but what I'd really like to do is have her stylists make me over. Have you ever seen Oprah without make-up? They transform her to looking like that everyday, so I know I could look just as good or better.
Vanity breeds insanity.

Most Annoying "Kingdom song?"
by doodle-v inwhat's a kingdom song you can remember singing that gives you the creeps now?
mine is "move ahead" i think that was the title, anyway it has so much rhetoric... but the tune is so darn catchy.... darn.... in my opinion, those songs are the perfect example of mind control.
move ahead.. move ahead ... blah blah blah blah blah .

I remember a 1984 Watchtower which is the blueprint for all weddings. What is appropriate, not appropriate, blah blah blah. Yes, the wedding march is too worldly, only Kingdom melodies should and can be played. That one about marriage is the one I usually heard at weddings. Something about pearls strung together, that's the only lyrics I remember, which is really too much.

Ran into an old "friend"
by Dawn ini was in town the other day waiting in line to purchase something and ran into an old jw friend i haven't seen in over 17 years!
we started to visit (of course - i didn't say anything about being df'd because i don't play those games any more).
she was really friendly and visited for about 5 minutes until i tossed in a couple of comments that made it pretty clear i was no longer a jw (thought i'd test the water & see her reaction).

17 years seems to be the magic number. That's exactly how long ago I last saw cruzanheart/Big Tex before reconnecting with them via this forum.

Can a Re-Instated Person Ever Become An Elder?
by Englishman inwhen i was but a wee lad, re-instated persons were regarded with great suspicion pretty well for ever after.
i recall a lady i knew becoming engaged to someone who had been re-instated, my parents actually commiserated with her parents over this sad state of affairs.. back then, re-instated persons were barred from almost everything.
just student talks were allowed, but no praying and no ministerial privileges whatsoever.. then in the early 70's, the wt stated that it might be possible for re-instated persons to be given a ministerial position after a proving period of at least 10 years impeccable behaviour.

I knew of a case where a man was disfellowshipped in another area, moved to our congregaton and slowly moved back up the ranks (disfellowshipped, reinstated, m.s. and eventually elder). Right after that he met a woman at work and got disfellowshipped again. I felt sorry for his wife. She did the pioneer thing and really had no marketable skills. I haven't heard about her for a while and often wondered what happened to her. Btw, her son was molested by a woman and they disfellowshipped her for six months and then let her back in. And the police weren't called either...

Did you cheat on your monthly report?
by JH ini was always honest with my field service reports, until the time when an elder came over to give me hell because i had only 1 hour that month in the field service.
i told him that i was working 50 hours a week, had a 4 day district convention that month and couldn't do miracles that month.
he never accepted my explanation.. .

I became quite good at figuring out what was "witness" time. Like if I spoke about it at work, maybe in conversation, not necessarily witnessing. I also counted all those times I dropped off magazines in laundrymats. So I don't think I really fudged, but my witness time wasn't of "quality" most of the time.

I find JW weddings extremely boring. No way to personalize it because "it's not in the outline."

I didn't do well driving in Britain. That's why they invented Brit Rail, for people like me.
