I read in the newspaper that the "f" word is uttered some 75 times. I don't think I'll pay to see that...I can utter the f word for free.

Why has 2003 seen so much death?
by TresHappy intoday i walked into my office and learned my head boss at the college had died of a heart attack the previous friday night.
absolutely devastated about this.
actually all of us who worked with him weren't fond of him at times, but no one wished bad things upon him.

I went to my boss's funeral yesterday. As funerals go, it was one of the nicest services I have witnessed. It was in such stark contrast to grandmother's long-winded JW funeral in May. As my cousin said "I'd thought I'd been abducted by aliens." That still cracks me up...

Question for attorney??? Any out there?
by Mulan inmy elderly father wishes for me to be his sole beneficiary when he dies.
he doesn't have much money, but i am not inclined to want my half brother and sister (ages mid 20's) to get anything.
they never call or come to visit him, and have made it clear he is just their birth father.

This will thing came up in my family recently. I know grandma put in the will that if anyone contested the will, they would forfeit their inheritance. I don't know if that would work.
Wills are one of the less expensive legal documents to draw up. I think mom paid about $200.00 for grandmother's will to be done (along with her living will, etc.).
When it comes to money and the elderly, all the greedy sorts come out of the woodwork. When my grandmother was in the coffin during visitation at the funeral home, her youngest daughter, my mom's youngest sister, was asking my parents about the will. This poor woman hadn't even been buried yet and her daughter was all worried about the $$$ she might get.

Cross religion mariage
by 2k ini have a friend who recently married a witness.
he isn't a witness, and this is causing some issues with the family.
i'm curious what is cosidered the appropriate way that the families should deal with the issue.

Getting married outside the Witnesses? I wouldn't recommend it - my personal experience.
In 1990 I met a guy at work. He pursued me, I have to say I wasn't really interested in the beginning. Mutual horniness, I suppose.
Big mistake #1 - dating someone that works with you. I can't recommend that either. We dated several months and the "R" word came into our relationship. He was a "devout" Catholic, I say that loosely because he hardly believed any of the tenets of the Catholic faith, but went to church every Sunday because "it's in me, like my name." I made it my personal pursuit to "change him"
Big mistake #2 - trying to change him. All my friends said if he converted religions, the elders would accept him and stop bothering me. All it did was put a huge wedge between us and eventually the elders made me break up with him.
Big mistake #3 - trying to get back together with him. We ended up in a huge fight (law enforcement called) and that was it. I never saw him again.

It's not just at work, I have mentioned my grandma's death in May in an earlier thread. There have been more deaths at work that I didn't mention, however I personally didn't know these people. It seems every week I get an e-mail from someone announcing a colleague/retiree had died.
As much as my head boss used to bug me (and especially my immediate boss), we were all left in a sad haze today. He had worked at the college for 26 years and planned to retire next year.
Thanks everyone for the kind words, and as said above, life is precious.

Today I walked into my office and learned my head boss at the college had died of a heart attack the previous Friday night. Absolutely devastated about this. Actually all of us who worked with him weren't fond of him at times, but no one wished bad things upon him. He was just 60 years old.
In June another teacher who had just retired from the school died of cancer.
In April, another one of my colleagues dropped dead at my college of a major heart attack. She was just 56.
In February a secretary I worked with died of breast cancer. Dead at 46.
This is the fourth death at my job THIS YEAR. I am devastated and sad and it's got everyone down here at the school. Never have I worked at a place where so many I knew or knew of have passed away.
Tomorrow I say goodbye to another colleague, and this is by far going to be the hardest one yet. He hired me back in 1995.

I saw this movie too. Raised some interesting questions. Visited the 6th Floor Museum in Dallas years ago and the visit answered some questions. I didn't know that Lee Harvey Oswald had taken a long package to work with him that day. He told his friend they were curtain rods or something like that. There are too many unanswered questions about this. LHO was a flake and I think he did it. Whether he had help, we'll never know.

This evening I had a wonderful conversation with a distant cousin of mine who called me from California. My grandmother and her father were siblings, so I guess we're second cousins? Maybe first cousins once removed? She had been raised in JW's and left over 20 years ago. I knew my great uncle had been a Witness, but I never really knew his kids. When grandmother died in May, I asked around to see if anyone had called to tell their cousins that their aunt (my grandmother) had died. My mom said "no, they're all disfellowshipped." So last week I took it upon myself to locate one of the 4 sisters via the Internet. She was floored that no one had contacted them about their aunt. I apologized and said well, you know the JW thing. I heard from another one of the sisters tonight and it was so cool to meet her via the phone. She's coming to Texas in April for a wedding so I will get to meet her.
Kind of cool, ain't it?
