Of serious concern

sometimes i am proud that i was able to break the bonds that held me in the watchtower bubble for so long.

lately though, i've been wondering if i have merely traded the borders the watchtower circled around me with some other nonsensical set of rules.. my home, redding ca, is a center piece of a four way intersection of highways and freeways.

many of them go through the mountains and forests and can be extremely dangerous.

This is a contradictory statement that attempts to be factual and clever but falls short.

Evasion of reality is a trick of the mind. We can never evade reality. If we are careful we may live a full life without a single accident. That would be our reality. We may escape the anticipated consequences of our actions but that does not mean we have evaded reality. We have simply beaten the odds.

Sorry to be pedantic but it satisfies my overactive little brain.

What is your definition of a "Fundi" or a Fundamentalist?

i've been called a "fundi" many times in my discussions with people on the board, and i'd like to know what your definition is of a "fundi".

don't google it.

i just want to hear your personal definition.. i find it interesting because i don't go to any church.

Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

So true, and our own point of view is constructed to suit our needs and aims. The more we fear death, the more we will construct a belief system that mitigates that fear.

The mind is both wonderful and treacherous but it serves its purpose, which is to navigate a way through life that we find acceptable or at least bearable. I prefer to think of myself as agnostic because it offers the most flexibility.

Thank you for your comments. I seldom debate it seldom leads to answers. I found that other motives were woven into my desire to debate. Ego, pride, anger and so on. In the end we believe what we want to. In some ways, I envy people their faith but as you said, 'As for me and my household, we shall believe on reason and evidence.'

I have an interest in Zen Buddhism and Tao but it is just an interest; part of a philosophical approach to life without too many sharp edges.

Anyway, I had better stop there or or it will be a 'never-ending story.'

it's only my opinion of course and so long as forum rules aren't breached we're all free to express ourselves as we see fit.

The Bethel Boppers will be most offended to discover that this apostate site pokes fun at their carefully controlled oranganization. Hellders and minstrel servants will now feel less impotent.

They can only hope that Armandlegon comes soon and ushers in their much desired parasite earth. The Witchtower and Snake magazines contain enough Zionbalah and offensive pokes at outsiders to compensate for this site's occasional dung throwing.

PSacramento Thank you for your reply. It is an honest and heart-felt testimonial to what you believe to be true. I can't argue with that, and more importantly, I don't want to. (In all fairness, I should tell you that I used to post as The Gladiator but have returned to posting under my original and real name)

You have shared many of your beliefs, and reasons for believing, with me. I still find your method of arriving at conclusions confusing and at times contradictory. That's my subjective impression. You also have a subjective impression of 'God' that fulfills your needs and hopes. As I have said many times, I hope it continues to work for you. The alternative is less than ideal.

Let's be very clear here, IF God came out in all his wonderous glory, the free will that we would have to believe or not would be removed.

According to the Bible, angels have never had the free will that you believe is essential for humans to have. Angels have always known of god's existence as they are said they reside with Him. Some, still decided to rebel.

Why are we mere mortals not offered such certainty? I would much prefer to have proof that God exists, than to be left wondering if the whole concept of God is a hoax. I would be delighted to discover that a benign, just and loving being was in charge of the universe.

Alas I have to rely on other people telling me that God exists and speaks to them, and this Chanel of communication makes the Bible optional. I guess I was born on the wrong side of the railway track.

This topic has all the ingredients that have made it a long and interesting thread. The elastic Bible is once again stretched in every direction, allowing it to be both errant and inerrant depending on the believers need.

Fundi" or Fundamentalist can be summed up in one word: Perry

Apparently according to - Perry Fundamentalism, anyone who does not believe his extreme views, must by default believe them-self to be god. Whether this opinion is viewed as errant or inerrant depends on what conclusion other believers want to arrive at.

As for me, I threw the the Bible the baby and the bathwater out a long time ago. There are many better books to read now that we are in the 21st century. And for those of you who have not been told - electricity is now available.

Once people adopt a firm position that they identify with, they will promote and defend that position.

Such devotion proves nothing either way but it's entertainment value is as engaging as it is disturbing.
