  People who were not involved in 1975 cannot understsnd the pressure to conform. I knew a lad who decided to do a 7 year apprenticeship. My parents forbade me to associate with him as he did not love Jehovah enough to pioneer. His family was to be shunned for encouraging him. The group of pioneers warned me to keep away from him in case I got ideas about training.

  Now 30 years later he is still an elder. How does a 15 year old go against their whole family knowing the will be treated like scum if they don't conform? When you have been forbidden any friends outside the congregation, these people are your whole world your security. Adults can live with their descisions and to some extent take a share of responsibility for them - but what about the children - they never had a chance.

  i was talking to the hubby over the weekend.

  i mentioned the fact that so much of what witnesses do seems to be driven by guilt.

  he said "yes, that's because they have a conscience.

  Hello Moody Blue,

  You are right the JWS do use 'the guilt factor' along with 'the fear factor' -fear of lossing favour of bros/sisters/God.

  On 12th. January, Redhorse Woman posted an excellent quote of author Steve Hassan, ex-moonie. It showed how cults use these and other teqniques to keep mwmbers in line. It was so good I printed it off. 3 A4 pages! Worth a read. See under 'Living a Lie' 12th. January.

  Hello,
  This is an interesting subject which has certainly got us all fired up. I think it is easier to understsnd the WTS when one realises that they are a political party. The Governing Body expect to be kings in heaven in a few years and the lesser elders will be princes on earth. They show all the insincerity of any other politiacal party.They will not let their members vote because they are the party that should be supported.

  Organized religion always ends up this way because power corrupts.The bigger the religion the bigger the corruption. The priests in Israel went the same way as did the Scribe in the time of Jesus. Some things never change.

  last night i stayed up all night, (not unusual for me though) and read the posts by ......well you know...the new kid on the block...who created so much fury.

  Hi Neyank,

  In answer to your question - No, I did not write to the elders I just walked away. I had resigned from my responsibilities without reason and then moved congregations after marrying a Witness.

  I deliberately kept a low profile and never really got as involved in the new congregation. Less and less meeting attendance. Less and less to say. All those years as a pioneer only to realise I had been 'had.'

  Fortunately my wife felt the same and we just called it a day - without a word. I have spoken to many Witnesses since but only when they ask me to talk. They will not really. listen unless the conversation is their idea.

  I'm confused

  this db is advertised as a "witness" board.

  yet there seems to be some disagreement over the place the wts should play in our lives.

  can someone inform me what the "official" stand on this matter is?.

  In answer to your question 'what part should the WTS play in our lives' - Their is no confusion in my mind - the answer is NONE AT ALL.

  They have had 100 years to prove whether of not they are being guided by God and have done so. They are utterly discreditd and branded as the false prophet. People like H.G.Wells never claimed to be spirit appointed but he knew far better than the WTS what the future held.

  Let the blind lead the blind and they will both fall in to a pit. Have I developed a 'spirit of independence?' - you bet - and proud of it. (before a fall did you say? O

  in my opinion, any one today, that takes the wts very seriously, their opinions, their thoughts, their recommendations, either in what they write, print or teach publicly from the platform, is usually a novice or a very new person, in his association with the organization itself.. if the wts were to cry "wolf," [the end is here, time is short] very few would listen.

  this is because as abraham lincoln once said:.

  "...you can't fool all of the people, all of the time.".

  Hello to TFS - and all of you who make this post great by adding your comments.

  The reason the WT survives and the elders continue to be looked up to, is due to the fact that many of the newer members, are unaware of what has happened within the WT over the years. Far more information is now available - becauce of sites like these, so perhaps things will change.

  The difficulty is that many people only see what they want to see due to - fear of change - fear of the unknown ect.

  The Elders' despite having only one eye' are in fact 'Kings in the land of the spiritualy blind.'

  Hello - not perfect yet,
  we are glad you like the board - we have a lot of fun make some serious points and enjoy each others humour.

  I have come on under my real name - I know it's a bit boring but that sums me up. I have been disassociated for 16 years and no elders have asked why. Neither my own parents or my wifs are brave enough to ask why. The reason is simple - Fear of the unknown.

  Hi LDH,

  Your original question was 'what charitable ORGANIZATIONS are you involved in?' Organized tax paying raises billions of pounds for welfare - nothing else comes close. Perhaps if you paid as much tax as me you would see my point.

  As for helping our fellow man, well that is an entirely different thing. Organized charities often earn a very good ivings out of their collections and are not always the best way to help the less fortunate. Giving to organized charity is convinient but not by no means the best way help out

  You never said why you were df's just that you did somthing stupid.
  How do you know you won't do it again. Perhaps if 'after 15 months it's getting hard' you might be about to do it again.

  Too much spiritual food? Too much faith?

  hello all.. this is a quote from an earlier conversation in the 1975 thread.. are you saying that the garden was weeded from those who put too much faith in "god's spirit-directed organization"?

  did these people listen to too much of their "food at the proper time"?.

  unfortunately, i never received a response from smartgirlpw, only insults of "boo boos" and truth hurting.. i would like to know if you personally (yes, i am asking for your opinion here, your pearls, or two cents) believe that you should not take very seriously what is stated in the wt publications, and if so, or even if not, please explain.. this was my original question before i lashed out at you for claiming we were having a pitty party and you began to lash out at me, java, pathofthorns, trevor, etc.

  Hi Ianao,

  The thing about 1975 was that those elders that kept their careers and nice homes while encouraging others to pioneer look back on it as a brief chapter in a long book. Peope like me and thousands of others who left school early and gave the best years of our lives see it as a big event. It hits you like that when you are a teenager.

  I have moved on and done very well for myself in life. I am one of the lucky ones. In answer to your question - those that claim to be JWS should live up to their claims or leave. It is the dishonesty that is hard to swallow. Either they are being led by spirit appointed elders or - it is a hoax and any one who plans their life around the advice the WT gives is fool. They can't have it both ways.
