  I'd imagine that many journalists are fed up with the WTS's constant refusal to be straight with them. In reality his article accurately reflected the actual opinions of "apostates" held by most JWs. Whether the way it was written was good for our specific purposes is a different story.

  Three points:

  (i) An official press statement from the UN would be nice. This might result if enough JWs etc call or email for verification, but I doubt it. I'm not suggesting any of us go for this.

  (ii) Will the WTS respond? I doubt it. If they don't then that is, in itself, an admission although most JWs will just believe the internal rumors that are spread (apostate lies, there never was a link, a UN plot, etc.) Again, not much we can do here. It does illustrate, first hand, what liars the leaders are.

  (iii) Finally, the WTS has lost something that probably opened up many doors to it. That will do long term damage.

  So, it doesn't look that great, short term, but this is a war of attrition.

  I posted the link on the New York Times' Religion in America Forum. I guess there was no space to include Hoeffel's letter. Reports I received from the UK this weekend, after the first article, are that the elders are claiming the story is "false" or that it is the "legal framing of mischief." On the other hand, I have heard from a number of JWs who are "questioning" for whom this is the final straw. I can't imagine what effect this week's article will have.

  Clearly, we need much more publicity if anything is going to give. How about starting a talkboard at "The Guardian." How much cash could we generate in a paypal account for running an ad. which includes Hoeffel's letter? Hawk, interested?????

  i've seen the scan of paul hoeffel's fax over at kent's website.

  if i understand it correctly, you created the scanned jpg and sent that file to kent and others.. i'd like to suggest something to improve the credibility of this thing - namely, to create a higher quality jpg from the original document.

  This is the link but I can't get the whole thing to go blue so you need to paste it in. You also need to register but it's anonymous. The aim is to flood the board but by trying to work the UN Jw thing in with other posters' comments. That way it doesn't stay an isolated topic.
