i spoke to the man who heads the ngo office at united nations headquarters.

i will not release his name at this point because i was asked not to by the individual who gave me the contact information.

Good job. If such a letter can be generated then it will be worth much. The WTS has been hit where it hurts most - in its pocketbook. They applied to be an NGO for political reasons and being forced to relinquish that status, esp. if governments are made aware of the whys and wherefores, will do much to hurt them. While we all want to get our families out of the WTS the battle is much broader. The WTS is hunkering down because of the major hits it has taken of late, both internally and externally.

The notion that the WTS can get away with anything is incorrect; inertia is certainly a consideration but the WTS is doomed unless it revamps. The only question is how long this will take. These incidents do much more to discourage them, and individual JWs, than is apparent.

On another note, we should emphasize the following; the article in the Guardian included the opportunity for Paul Gillies to refute the accusations. He didn't do it, or the reportere was being dishonest. Obviously it is the former. However, dubs should be encouraged to get the WTS, and Gillies in particular to explain their nonsensical remarks. Gillies is a lowdown liar and any heat that can be applied to him will be productive. If I were in charge of the WTS operation I'd dump Gillies as the idiot he is. If he gets dumped then who knows what he'll say; clearly the man has no bottom.

Are there any bodybuilders on this forum?

i've just recently started going back to the gym again and i have a few question for the fitness experts.. its suggested that you should take a day off in between working out with weights.

is the same thing true for pushups?.

does anyone know of a few bodybuilding sites?

I haven't lifted in a few years but I'd suggest that you get Arnold's book; The Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding. For motivation/fun etc. read Sam Fussell's book "muscle..."

The WTS is an NGO: _any_ organization that is non governmental is an NGO by definition. What matters here is that the WTS voluntarily and formally associated itself with the UN/DPI. Doing this involved certain obligations towards the UN and vice versa. On eobligation is that the WTS would try to motivate public opinion in favor of the UN, Not all NGOs are associated with the UN. As far as I can tell the link your friend supplied is not relevant.

MAJOR UN/WTS/NGO NEWS - WTS IS GONE

as of 11:45 this morning (i had a telphone call this morning with the refernce department person named holly at 212-963-7234), i can tell you that the watchtower has disassociated itself from the united nations dpi!!!!!!.

the dpi is now taking them off the list.

the dpi requested the list removal to be done this morning!!!!!.

Terrific work! If we could get copies of the material that the WTS along with other NGOs is supposed to supply "frequently" to show their support, then that would help too. It's supposed to be available for inspection in the DPI resource room, but that is likely still closed.

There were a couple of minor mistakes. However, the article was very good overall. It was accurate where it counts. And don't forget that many non JWs will read it. The main thing is that now the UN connection has been published in the press. If the UN actually investigates then there may eventually be some sort of press release.

I agree that many JWs will discount it, they always do. But that mindset is what the WTS wants. If you don't send it to your relatives because it "sounds like a disgruntled" former member then the WTS has scored another point.

Sometimes we can become overly sensitive to WTS sensibilities. This is a war of attrition; no single thing will do the trick but _anything_ that gets dubs thinking is a step in the right direction. If people write it off as apostate propaganda then so what?

Don't shrink back (ahem...)

this is the email address to which everyone here should send at least one email regarding the wts's "associative status" with undpi.. the wts's ngo subject of interest is "human rights".. we should document to undpi that the only "human rights" that the wts is interested in is their right to enslave other humans.. your email doesn't necessarily have to be a "research paper" on disfellowshipping, shunning, shielding of child molestors, etc.

some of the most effective emails will be those relating the intimate personal experiences of those harmed by the wts's own human rights violations.

Good idea, MA. An _additional_ possibility is to generate an e-petition that could be sent to the UN and varrious other agencies.

We'd have to come up with a cogent yet documented statement together with a clear statement of what we want. Obviously, anonymity might be an issue for some, but if there were enough of us then retailiation by the WTBTS would be difficult. Might even be useful to attract some publicity too.

UN Info Distribution

a day or so prior to gc.com shutting down, one of their members posted a warning that they had received an "apostate email", entitled "united nations".

the poster said that he had deleted it without reading it, (i guess they have esp over there) and warned others to do the same.

i believe that the poster also said that all gc members probably got such because they didn't use that particular address except for gc stuff.. i haven't seen a similar post on gc.net or wol thus far.. can i assume that someone here has already emailed everyone at gc and wol?

Don't give up. Three years ago I felt the same. Now my sister has essentially quit because the UN thing was the straw that broke the camel's back and my Mom is firing off letters to the WTS almost weekly demanding answers. It's a long road, but she is your Mom; calling you 4 times in the last week means that you have made an impact. Don't give up; be nice, logical, calm and unfrustrated and you will win out. Look at it this way "without a word you will win her over." You have nothing to lose and all to gain. Once I realized that my own impatience was the thing that bothered and hindered me it was easy thereafter. Except for the impatience!!!
