My sister and I found this site when we were looking for information on the JWs being a cult. I think they are. My family had been out of the JWs for awhile, but I feel that looking at sites like this on the internet helped push my family towards a formal disassociation letter. I am so happy to be out, I have bad dreams where my family goes back and I'm incredibly angry. Thank the stars above I never will go back!

Where were you when you first came here?

the reason i ask is that what happened to danni and her partner will be talked about for ages at that particular hall.
when i was about 16 i once saw 2 brothers arguing over who would take the service group that weekend.the whole congregation was about as quiet as a mouse pissing on a cottonball!

At my hall, this guy was in love with another sister who was a neighbor of mine. We'll call the guy Jim and the sister Candy. Jim was a vietnam vet and had some mental problems. Needless to say, he was heavily medicated. Apparently, Jim asked Candy on a date several times and she refused. Then Jim found out that Candy was beginning to date some other brother. I think Jim went crazy after that. He came to a meeting and just started shouting nonsense stuff in the middle of talks. The brothers wanted to escort him out, but he was as big as a bear and violent. We had to wait until Jim calmed down enough to be led out. It was very odd and that in my opinion was the best meeting ever.
Also, once at a book study, my mom's study brought her boyfriend to the study. The study was held at our house, which made what happened all the better. They boyfriend started arguing doctrinal ideas with the conductor in the middle of our study. Then he pulled out a paper bag and a lunch out of it, like he was gonna start eating right there in the middle of the book study. He raised his hand and asked if anyone minded. My mom, of course, said "Yes, I mind if you eat in my living room." The conductor also objected. That was great. -

Reading all your stories I feel lucky because my whole family decided we hated being witnesses and disassociated ourselves. The only people who shun us are members of the old congregation we went to. That's not bad at all seeing as how towards the end, we depised them all. The hard part is I have a JW student (I teach) and I am afraid of her finding out I'm DA'd, because then she might want a new teacher. She's really smart and I hope she doesn't stay in the organization.

My favorite candy is no longer sold anymore. It was made by Willy Wonka candies, they were Dinasour eggs. Those were so tasty! Now I have to make due with Spree.
Disneyland used to make these wonderful chocolate almond turtles, but they stopped. Argh, everything I love gets taken away from me! -

My dad's favorite method of getting service time was to go to the college dorms across town and leave magazines in their laundry rooms. This way he racked up mass service time and made magazine placements. Better still, you didn't have to talk to anyone.

Does anyone remember taking those Kingdom Ministry School tests once or twice a year at the KH? What was that all about? Latinadivina713 seems to feel it was meant as a guilt tool to make you study the bible more. Did anyone really take that test seriously? It seemed ridiculous for a religion that frowned on people taking any sort of educational pursuits seriously to give a test on your ability to pay attention to bad speakers and remember minor details. I was thinking this over last night and was always amazed that people just sat and took that test seriously. No one collected your answers, we didn't switch and correct a neighbor's paper (which would led you to study for fear of embarassment), so why did we do this?
And as long as I'm on a tirade, what kept people from cheating on that test? The questions came early with a KM, so why not just do the answers ahead of time? What would be the punishment for cheating?There should have been some sort of reward for getting a good score on that test, like getting out of giving a talk for the next year. -

Did anyoe else have homeless people in their congregations? I am from So. Cal, and come from a Middle Class neighborhood. It's not like you would find homeless people hangin' around our KH. And, it's door to door ministry. How are you gonna knock on a homeless person's door?
In any event, we had this homeless guy I'll call Gary. He lived in his truck and even bragged about "bathing" in the hot tubs of the apartment complexes nearby. He was assigned to the book study at my parents' house. Damn, you should have seen the clean up job we did after book study!!!!!
Also, he had some crazy crush on Linda Evens. He even went all the way up to LA and tried to witness to her at her house. Hello!!! -

Another question is did most of the weddings you attended for JWs seem to be at Rec centers or senior citizen centers? It seemed that the JWs attracted the poorest people who wanted pot luck weddings? -
