It's interesting that as the old religions and stories become more and more worn out (there's too much understanding of history and science to belief for most thinking people), there are new ideas of God/creation emerging that marry science and religion. Things like energy fields and quantum physics. I don't understand much about it but it seems many people (including scientists) aren't giving up on the idea of an afterlife just yet.

Where do we go when we die?
by cptkirk inwhat would happen if we did not have religion to give some at least inference to (at the very least) our subconscious, that there is some type of afterlife?
what would we tell kids when they ask us what happens when we die?
what would we tell kids after these shooting massacres?

Noah's Ark and I'm a dumbass
by new22day inwalking down memory lane today and recalled a convo with my ex about noah's ark.
(i made all the rookie mistakes when talking to my ex about jw stuff -sigh.
) i think i said something like 'if you believe in noah's ark take the cat and a mouse from the backyard for a drive around the block and let me know how it goes.

Well global flood aside, he was referring to the literal ark, with all the animals and the Mount Ararat thing. I don't want to be rude, but all the animals on earth sailed around in a boat? Come on.
lol - What did they eat? (do people seriously belief this stuff?) -

Crazy Religions
by Qcmbr ini was reading a good article regarding the relative 'craziness' of faiths (blog) and they mentioned a lot about mormons.
in short they talked about the socially accepted craziness (as opposed to actual mental illness) of mainstream , culturally accepted faiths v those that are relatively new.
we see scientology as more crazy than catholicism if we fall into the trap of judging without consideration but when examined all religions have very crazy elements.

He told me I needed to grab a freaking education because Noah's Ark had been found and it was defintely real. Sigh - I can't believe I wasted 2 years of my life with that man. :(

Why advise the elders to throw away anything? It is what it is, right. If there's nothing to hide, no worries. Own it.

The problems with fighting the WTS
by return of parakeet inover the years, many well-intentioned posters have been frustrated when they ask fellow apostates (wear the name proudly!
) to band together to let the world know how corrupt and destructive the wt cult is.
i think there are some hard facts about this particular cult that make combatting it so frustrating:.

As an non-JW I always thought the religion was really sad, but ultimately a personal choice. You wanna live that way and believe the sensational crap in your mags poor you, but ultimately your choice. Now, after (unfortunately) being involved with an exJW (now reinstated) I see it differently. Now I see the complete control, totaliltarianism, fear via shunning, subtle hate speech etc. And it's absolutely shocking and heart breaking to learn people are raised/think way. JWs have mostly flown under the radar but I don't think they will forever. And I think many of you people here who have such immense courage to question, doubt, leave and challenge the WTS are part of a change - however you do that. Living happy and free is a great example for others. Never underestimate what you do. As a lurker (lol) I've been inspired by so many of you. :)

let's play Dear God
by Tater-T indear god, if you are a god as your followers claim you to be, why do you have to operate in the constraints of spacetime?
dear god, why did you have to sacrifice yourself to yourself to save your creation that you made with flaws?.
dear god, why do you not do anything about your old men in robes raping little boys?

Dear God
As a kid, you were my invisible friend when friends were hard to find. When I was lonely I cried out to you when those feelings were too hard to share with others. When I was six you helped me find those ugly shoes, the ones I hated but my mom loved so much.
Then I grew up. I read that book you inspired, but… I didn’t see you there. And there was no place for me in that book. I was just a girl. I didn’t leave you right then, but that book and those stories meant nothing to me.
Then some bad things happened. Where were you? “You’re needed in aisle 9”, -- but you never showed up.”I lost you and I lost myself for a while. I still don’t know what you are, or if you are, and mostly I don’t care. I ignore you. Now if I cry, I cry alone, but there are those times… when I’m alone, in nature, that I think I feel you. Not in a church, not in some scripture, but in a river or a tree, you pass by me. And in those moments I feel you. And I know then, I’m as insignificant as the leaf that falls from the tree and you owe me nothing. You gave me this life, in this world. The rest is up to me.

I'm truly confused. What's their motivation to not report these allegations to authorities? Is it just to protect their reputation that this doesn't happen in Jehovah's religion? Why would a sex offender be considered for more priviledges - are they that short of good members??? Or do they not think child molestation is a big deal? This should go to mainstream media. Yikes.
