Well, I'm glad he's from Argentina and it's great he takes public transit. He's down with the peeps. I for one like the little guy and wish him the best and his age doesn't bother me. 'They' say he's a minimalist and I like that.

As for child abuse, gay rights, birth control, etc. - Meh. The majority of people left this church behind decades ago. IMO, it will have to be a radical transformation to gain any relevance among modern thinkers and a rejection of most of what they put in that silly book they produced.
Edted to add: And we all know that ain't gonna happen.

The Bible---Have You Watched It On The History Channel?

i must admit, i am a sucker for bible movies.

i do not get the history channel on my cable service but i've heard good things about the series.. have you seen it?.

are you interested in these types of programs..

Unfortunately this "mythology" has had a huge bearing on Western history. I finally decided to start reading/researching this book a little more to see what I was missing and I'm even more turned off now. Not trying to start a firestorm -- personal opinion only.
There's no decent view of women in this book - equal to the goats/sheep and treated as such. Yep, easy to see the bible was written by men (with an agenda) - period.
You bet they didn't show Lot offering his daughters to the crowds to be raped and later sleeping with them. It's an appaling story regardless of the times. Blech!!! And it makes no sense.

Jwdaughter, I agree with you about that scene when the embassy was stormed. It was terrifying to watch and see how helpless they were. I felt shaken too. Being in Egypt during these times must have been very unnerving. Were you on a holiday or work? What an adventure.

LostGeneration, I think that's called 'selective drunkeness'. Yes, those spies would be a pain in the butt. My ex was told "he better get rid of me now" by a woman who was only studying with the JWs (the nerve). I think she liked him. He told her to mind her own damn business and get her own life in order. I thought it was all completely ridiculous. It's mind baffling to an outsider.

(i'm a non-jw, non-christian (no offense), stubborn as a bull and even i had moments of pause based on some of the doctrine (lasted 30 seconds) but i never had family/friends at stake or a background in this.

Thanks for the great (and creative) responses. So the answer is a resounding "NO" for most people here. My friend was DF'd twice (vey spiritually weak) but still went back.
Dazed but not Confused - love the "Weekend at Bernie's" comparison. I can visualize Bernie doing the D2D work. ;) That might actually catch my interest.

okay, so the jws (and my mom) would be so happy if i started going to meetings again.

i've made it clear i don't believe what they say so why would they care if i went to meetings?

do they want me to go meetings and be an open dissenter?

Out there question for you ex JWs - do any of you think it would be possible to be swayed back if you started hearing all that propaganda (over and over) again? It is pretty insidious stuff...?

After the Canadians got the 6 American diplomats out, they quickly evacuated all CA embassy staff for fear of retribution. Relations between CA and Iran deteriorated and the Canadian embassy remained closed for 8 years. (In 2012 CA stopped all diplomatic relations with Iran - different reasons.)
